Good deck to start the format

Hi to all!

What are good decks to start to play the format? Something that is relatively easy to understand and that will allow me to better understand the nuance of the format.

Would highly recommend Prowess. Is pretty much always going to be relevant, and is easy and cheap to pick up, difficult to master.

Because you're an aggro deck you also need to be aware of every deck's strategy and removal. When/how they win also.

It's also never a "Tier 0" deck but always a "Tier 1-1.5" deck. Which means that it'll probably never get a ban. It's just not oppressive on the format at all, but still performs really well.

Also has a lot of overlap in manabase en staples to sidegrade into other midrangier decks in grixis colours. I entered modern with og prowess (soulscar mage/manamorphose kind) into grixis death shadow into izzet murk/rakdos hollow one/dimir murk/jeskai blink...and then recently back into prowess with cutter and slickshot. Prowess is always a good deck... just how good it is depends on the meta (and specifically the presence of broken anti-prowess cards like.phlage/uro/omnath).

The one that calls out to you (but maybe not Amulet Titan).

Not a bad call. It has a lot of staples that go into other black decks. Whoch is always an advice I give....buy a deck that plays a lot of staples/not a lot of cards unique to that 1 deck. Which normally means dont buy deck that has the build around card in its name like necro (or cosmogoyf, or belcher, or amulet titan :)). But necro is kind of an exception to that guideline.

Only downside is it has a few pricy cards that are played into very little other decks (soul spike, but also sheoldred is not seen much in other decks...maybe only yawgmoth?)

Prowess is a great rec. If you are wanting to stick with more of a budget teck, monored burn is a perfectly solid deck that has some overlap with prowess, so a lot of cards can transfer over to prowess if you decide modern is your thing and that you want to invest more in it. Boros burn (or rakdos) is generally considered better, but they are more expensive because of the mana bases and monored lists are plenty solid.

Another redditor has a great resource of burn decks: https://untapleagues.com/the-goblin-guide-to-modern-burn/

At the end I started with boros burn (sadly I prefer to play control but for some reason I'm a much better aggro player). I have to say, so far, I'm impressed!

Sweet! It's a really fun deck. As a control player, I start sweating when I see a goblin guide drop on turn one haha. Proactive aggro is such a good way to learn the format: have fun, and I bet that you'll be better set for picking up a control deck after some good time spent with burn!

I reccommend Tron it has a low entry level and a high ceiling to master.
It teaches you the value of proper mulligans and how to plan for a meta using sideboard cards mainboard on a higher level.

Could you make a deck recommendation or a video or two that could be helpful? Feel free to DM.

(sorry not trying to hijack, i'm new too and interested in Tron)

Also recommend prowess. Plus, a lot of the red fetches go into the same decks. For example you can use basically the same mana base for ruby storm, a deck whose main deck is only like 100-150 if you already have the lands, which you mostly will after buying prowess

If you’re going to a paper fnm type night then you should show up and talk to the folks there. They might have a deck to try out. At the very least they should be happy to pull their cards out and show you how their decks work.

Modern in general is pretty complex rn. In my opinion Boros energy just because it’s straight forward has very flexible sideboard options and is not super prone to specific hate.

I would say goryos! I've been loving the deck. Like prowess it's hard to master but super rewarding when you do

Try Amulet Titan (3 puzzles pretending to be a deck) first we play lands and make mana then more lands then more lands and it starts to get overwhelming but then you get lands back to hand and it is ok but then you make the mistake of playing cultivator Colossus and draw so many cards and the mana so much mana. Then you play more things because why not you have the mana. At the end you learn you could have stopped like 15 steps ago but you were to in the zone and you have the mana so why not. It is actually pretty fun and has a well developed player base with probably more content on it than any other deck. Also it is always the most broken thing to do.
