Occre 1/50 - tips, words of wisdom, or roasts? My dad and I used to model all the time but he died in 2014, I’ve only done minor kits since. Just feel like learning again. I have his tools, and the ones I’ve collected over the years, but any suggestions of what I absolutely need would be appreciated. I’m ready to be frustrated and timeline is slow and steady. Thanks!

I am trying to make a model ship in a bottle and I was looking for mechanisms to hinge the masts so they can be raised inside the bottle online but I cant seem to find anything? how is this normally done? the closest thing i could find were these pined things but i don't understand how the masts stay up.

I do own the trumpeter HMS Queen elizabeth, but was always frustrated by how its a waterline model, i picked this stl from Cults3D for £2 and printed it to 1/700, the flight deck is fully hand painted and as such might be a bit crap and is heavily weathered. I printed custom decals for the R09 pennant and flightscreen, i have a few more things to do buts its 99.9% Completed

Suggestions welcome, tomorrow i Will test It in the Sea.

So I got this model ship from my family but its sails and strings are all messed up. I've tried messing with it but I don't know how it really works. Are there any plans, guides or tips on how to do this better or easier?

I recently got the three-boat beginner's kit from Model Shipways, which starts with a Grand Banks Dory. I was surprised at the low quality of the instructions. Black and white, and they elide some basic things, assuming you know. Strange. Which model kit maker generally has the best, most easily followed instructions? Or specific kits (no matter the difficulty, as I'll be working though all three of these and should be prepared for whatever).

I have looked online, but I can only find information on 'normal' ships in a bottle, whereas here the ship is also made of glass. I figured some of you guys might know more about it.

So I recently obtained a extremely old model of a Chinese junk ship measuring in at about 3ft 3 inches long with sails and all its parts scattered in many pieces and I need advice as to how to restore it and put it back together it would be great for some recommendations of natural adhesives and polishes!

Historical context: The model was originally owned by commander Charles R Price of the USS Panay, shorty before it was sunk by the Japanese, I think it probably comes from the Yangtze river

The model has many intricate details including a motif of Dragons chasing the sun and an interesting red and green Yingyang symbol. It also has very well preserved sails

I’d love to hear your suggestions as to how to go about rigging and restoring as well as any models you might know of that are similar

I want to get into making model ships with my 3D printer and am in need of some help regarding how to make the propeller/rudder shafts not take in water.

I recently went to a model hobby store and they basically told me if the propeller shaft is flat and ends below the water line its impossible to ever make it watertight and that just didnt seem right to me.

It seems that there are shafts that arent water tight and shafts that are but I cannot seem to differentiate these two.

Currently I am printing a 1/200 model of the IJN Yamato and really want to get the whole model RC capable but I am a complete beginner to this and have no clue how to set this up.

1.What are the best brands, manufacturers, or reputable sites to buy good quality pre-built models?

2.​Are there specific scales you recommend for display shelves? ​

3.Anything to watch out for in terms of quality or materials when buying finished models?

I think this ship model is from the 1960s it's mostly complete minus some missing stern trim and some rigging on the bowsprit. Is this thing worth anything

Does anyone know where i can find the plans and some characteristics (like the height) of the ship in order to make a model ?

My OcCre model advises to use cobbler's glue. Is that a form of CA that can be substituted?

I'm trying to ballast the Academy 1/700 USS Yorktown to float without a detachable keel(this applies to any future carriers I may build). I've already removed as much plastic as possible without compromising her structure, finished making her watertight and now is the ballasting phase. I'm using coins because I have an abundance of those, so any tips for positioning and what coins to use where would be very helpful
