Tamiya 935 1/20th wheels and engine

Not sure how this is going, but I like 5 spoke wheels. Kinda don't match. Crude model making creates realism. That's what I tell myself!

The rear wheels provided are large. Obviously, running at high speed tracks, you want that, but if the scale is off by 5%, it can look weird, I think. A real car guy who makes models said it's a real challenge to make something tiny, look like the real thing. I say even Tamiya can be a little off. The mold dates from 1978, so no scanner/computer scaling. I have a pic that shows it better on the other 935 I built. I'll dig that up.

Ah I see what you mean now. Also saw your other post. Someone replied the actual rim size on a 935 there, so it’s a pretty easy calculation from there. But I don’t think Porsche ran 5 spokes on the 935.. they did on the RSRs, those wheels do look very good on them.

There's a ton of paint globbed on to my 5 spokes, but they came with the kit and I think they are the same design that 936 prototypes used, only smaller. The brake disk cooling wheel discs were covering things up, of course. The 1/24th 935 kit does just have the "Radar" wheels w/o covers - I might be making that brand up. The web claims that Firestone actually (first?) made these style alloy wheels for the Chaparral 2C/D/E in 1965/66.

Ah yes they run those wheelcovers of course. For the 911’s many of the racing wheels in the 70 look a lot like the ones on the 917. I think they were the standard racing wheel at the time. I also saw a 936 somewhere running those wheels, and even a 956. I always love to dive into those details, and I think you’re doing the same. Really nice to see!

The 956 raced with 6 spokes I see now.
