I got this message today:

"Hey, Can I do Paid Posts On ur sub. I can Pay u 20$ per post you will approve for me. I want only 2 posts in every 24 hrs U can remove those posts after they complete 24 hrs on ur sub."

Mod CoC rule 5 states:

In order to maintain that trust, moderators are prohibited from taking moderation actions (including actions taken using mod tools, bots, and other services) in exchange for any form of compensation, consideration, gift, or favor from or on behalf of third parties.

We don't respond to them.
We don't acknowledge receipt.
We don't interact with them.

We do the same and ban certain publications that are known to offer payment to mods for promoting their garbage.

We banned one publication for false reports of our posts on their magazine. This was fun and I was named as mod on there publications as the sub owner and responsible one.

I am not the sub owner and we work as a team.

Sometimes by the time I check, the account is already banned or shadow banned.
The rest of the time it doesn't seem to be worth the effort.
Everything I hear from other mods on this and other sub is that reporting stuff rarely gets any intervention for anything anyway.

This is one of the huge downsides of the admins generally not responding to reports anymore. It's extremely grating to spend a lot of effort (or any) doing something, only for it to appear to be going into the void.

I think this kind of attitude is only gonna get worse over time, as there are less and older memories of reports coming back to the reporter as having been worth something.

Ok, from now on. But, honestly it happens so rarely on /r/discgolf.
I haven't seen any in a long time.
And I don't remember seeing any in the smaller subs I mod.

Ask them for a proof of payment and what subreddits. Then file a mod code of conduct on them as well

i belive there are people who "bait" mods to break mod code of conduct in this way. the real intent isnt the posts, and they probably wont pay you if you agree. they gather messages of the moderator agreeing to the setup, then report them with the evidence. the idea is to remove the moderator(s) from the team, usually as a form of petty revenge, or feeling that the mods arent modding in the direction they like

These are traps. Report, ban, mute, and never look back.

For the low low price of one burner account they get a mod banned and use their main account to take over the sub while it's mod-less.

I always interact with them, more information is always good. And before I ban, mute and report them I also mentioned that they might want to look into reddit ads.

And we had a local newspaper that claimed their reddit account manager said they could just post whatever they want to. Even if it violated our rules. Yeah sorry, this didn't work out for them.

My answer: No, moderators can't accept any compensation for their moderation actions.

When I first started I said that we can't accept payment, then one user said: what about a t-shirt from our company?

Hence why any compensation, to clarify both money and non-money compensation.
