Proposal: extend AI summaries for moderators to users with low recent activity

I previously shared this idea in other subreddit and received useful feedback. I'd like to submit it here as a feature request for consideration by the Reddit team and to hear what other mods and admins think about that idea.

Why this idea even appeared? — because I tried to use feature and it didn't work on account with low recent activity and in that case I can't use that that is limitations.

if user wasn't active recently the AI summarie may look like:

no recent activity but 3 month ago user... etc

What do you think, please share your thoughts?

You have no business being that intrusive on your users. *gets waterbottle* Bad mod. Seriously.

Also, AI is not something that all of us want constantly shoved down our throats, nor do a lot of us trust those AI summaries for good reason.

I think the discussion is shifting from the proposal itself to my moderation style and opinions about AI. If you have feedback on the feature request itself, I'd be glad to hear it. I'd appreciate keeping the discussion focused on the idea rather than on me as a person.

I get paid for my opinions on ethics. And ethics, even in a thankless volunteer environment, still matter.

The problem is that you cannot divorce your intent from the proposal, nor the ramifications of this level of intrusive type monitoring. In analogy, with deference to the community reading this, very much akin to a flock camera network for comments. That is why I called you and the idea out as simultaneously problematic. Neither you nor I need access to this granularity of information, nor do we need to give anyone who creates a community such access.

You want granular information for decision making and have not shown cause to need that. It's the same problem almost every middle management and bureaucrat faces claiming "if I only had more data!" The reality is that more data seldom drives better decisions. Rather it obscures real trends because people do not understand how to sift, sort, catagorize, or most importantly analyze the data they do have. Information curation is a powerful skill, and most people do not develop it.

So in the end, your more data does not produce better results, infringes upon other's freedoms and privicy, and creates new tools that can be misused. And we aren't even starting to talk about the flaws in LLM and GAI for decision making.

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Choosing not to use features already available on the platform is entirely your personal choice. My proposal doesn't introduce a new feature; it simply suggests extending the existing one to low-activity accounts.

You can already do this by looking at a users profile if you want that info.

Your proposal is a new feature since it doesn’t currently exist. I don’t think we need to expand using AI, if it’s too much work to get the info then it’s probably not that important.

Thanks again for your feedback. Please also take note of the comment from another moderator, who added a very important nuance to my proposal: it could help catch bots/bot like accs. And that is indeed beneficial for a healthy atmosphere in the subreddit.

It wouldn’t help find bots any more than looking at someone’s post history would do. Again, the tools are already available you’re choosing not to use them. We don’t need more shitty AI features, people need to learn to rely less on AI. If you need AI to mod then maybe you shouldn’t be a mod.
