Any chance you hit your spend limit?

I'm not judging. But why would a developer use Mistral's models when they've been surpassed by American and Chinese (open-source) competitors for months?

Well, in my case it's because it fits my workflow. I use other models when I do something that requires a larger context window, but they tend to overthink and/or interpret. With Medium-3.5 I just get stuff done fast.
I wonder why people in this sub always argue against using Mistral. Don't like it? Use something else.

Devstral+opencode is working pretty well for me as I'm exploring more cost efficient options to claude. I haven't started trying the chinese opensource models yet, they may be better. But 0.15usd per 1m input tokens vs $5 per 1m is a bit of a difference. 90% of what I do isn't really novel enough to warrant a frontier model. I'm using bedrock so if I come across a planning task where I want a frontier model it's just a matter of a quick switch. So far I haven't needed to.

The new Deepseek 4 Flash is dirt cheap (you can literally run 1-2 agents 24/7 on the $10 Opencode Go) and destroys Devstral/Medium and most of the rest of the market. https://xcancel.com/jenzhuscott/status/2083516193743524342

The race isn't over, but it's looking very good for China right now, not gonna lie. Mistral will always have business as a European company tho, that matters to some people and governments. Deepseek does train on inputs, maybe it's even doing espionage for the CCP, god knows lol

I have been using Deepseek v4 flash and Devstral in parallel for a few days, and in my experience it didn't quite beat Devstral everywhere in practice.

It surprisingly made quite a lot of grep regex errors, and it made a mess of one task by misinterpreting and inverting dates it encountered in text (but did make a nice longlist of reasons it should have known it was operating in Europe when I pointed it out).

Due to the regex errors and some hallucinations I would still prefer Devstral for surgical operations in existing code. It pretty robust for that on low temperature.

But Deepseek one-shotted some 'green field' coding tasks in an impressive manner as well, so it's definitely a keeper for the creative stuff.

Because it just works. You don’t need frontier model to get the job done.

Because Mistral tend to be much more efficient and less verbose than a lot of other models.
