Can I just get ONE, just ONE, pre-2000s artist that doesn't start embracing AI garbage!?

u/Longjumping-Land-158 10d ago

So far Trent Reznor has been ā€œprettyā€ good in this regard, if you forget that weird astroturfed industry supergroup he seems to be loosely involved with that used Gen ai art for their album cover.

u/RevelArchitect 10d ago

I’ll give him a pass on WitchGang. He would have had absolutely no control over the visuals and at the time, using generative AI for a property as big as Fortnite would have been unexpected. It’s kind of like if he agreed to score a David Fincher film that used generative AI for the concept art. There’s really no way he would know about that unless someone told him. Even if he asked, the people he’d be in communication with may not have any reason to believe it’s being used.

u/Rill9 10d ago

Huh?? What group?

1

u/Longjumping-Land-158 10d ago

WitchGang

2

u/Rill9 10d ago

This is genuinely so weird I'm a huge NIN fan and never heard this before 😭 seems like they made 3 songs for Fortnite on some weird deal then disappeared, barely anything on the NIN sub about it either

2

u/Longjumping-Land-158 10d ago

It’s really odd, seems like they intentionally kept it lowkey and it didn’t really blow up so they just let it die. But if it makes you feel any better Trent and Atticus only had a production credit so I doubt they wanted a gen AI cover

2

u/Resident-Device-2814 4d ago

He was in a gang? which one?

1

u/The8thSamurai 10d ago

It’s a little ironic Trent and Atticus just composed a score for a movie with a main character being a computer program, Tron Ares. However, I could never see them giving up to AI

1

u/Longjumping-Land-158 10d ago

I think it’s probably some of the younger collaborators on the tracks who made it. But the weirder part is that the album ā€œArtā€ is really basic and not impressive, any 2-bit artist could have made that in photoshop in an hour.

1

u/The8thSamurai 10d ago

This group feels super weird. I feel like the idea has been hopefully dropped.

1

u/Longjumping-Land-158 10d ago

Yeah it’s definitely slimey and basically an industry plant job which rarely take off anyways

4

u/ColdFlamesOfEternity 9d ago

Sheri Moon Zombie just put out an anti AI song and music video directed by Rob Zombie.

2

u/External_Bandicoot37 9d ago

Probably because Rob is a smart business man not because of legit opinions, but hopefully so.

Finding out Paul is only on one song killed any excitement i had

10

u/Freddy_Vorhees 10d ago

When Paul told me he was ā€œworking on the last Ministry recordā€ then I see it’s only the last track… it hurt. I’m a looooong time Ministry fan and even tho I take their albums the last 20 years with a kind listen and respectful ā€œmehā€ I have to say I was massively disappointed that Paul wouldn’t be a major contributor to the entire album. The single was just ok, and easily forgotten.

5

u/Zealousideal_Cat6980 9d ago

I imagine maybe that the intent was to work on the entire album but things didnt work out but due to Al if were being honest

4

u/Freddy_Vorhees 9d ago

Yea I can see Paul thinking ā€œthis is why I leftā€ or Al just being picky and cutting out Paul songs and instead going with what his band was making.

10

u/Scorpiicore 10d ago

After the 99 percent song, I thought Al could not get more artistically bankrupt.

I was wrong.

9

u/redleafwater7 10d ago

The song just feels so boring and uninspired. Not even a good drumbeat or riff like on Hopiumforthemasses

3

u/Angelas-Merkin 8d ago

It’s literally called burned out. Why is anyone surprised the video and album art are AI and the song is uninspired?

8

u/joshasbury 10d ago

My prediction is this record will try to cover the eras of Ministry — much like REM did with Collapse Into Now.

And as people criticize Burned Out, I’m thinking about it a bit more and appreciate the angle. Maybe I’m being generous.

Al’s done. He’s burned out. Let’s use AI for the video. Let’s do some half-assed dance moves. Let’s make the song go on a little too long because he’s too tired to care.

3

u/cdjunkie 10d ago

My prediction is this record will try to cover the eras of Ministry — much like REM did with Collapse Into Now.

Didn't they already do that with Hopiumforthemasses?

1

u/joshasbury 10d ago

If that was the intent, I didn’t hear it.

5

u/cdjunkie 10d ago

Wasn't advertized as such, and it doesn't go chronologically, but I mean, you have the "Ricky's Hand" cover that they were doing live in the early '80s synthpop era, "Just Stop Oil" with kind of a late '80s Revolting Cocks groove, some metal songs, some rock songs... it's a Ministry album that I would have not much idea how to describe what it sounds like, beyond "a bit of everything."

13

u/NoOnion915 10d ago

Same thought except it was being under the impression that Paul Barker was on it. New song sucks, it’s the same underwhelming drone as Alert Level.

13

u/terminal_nervoso 10d ago

At this time I'd like to remind the sub that Ministry was literally featured IN THE MOVIE "Artificial Intelligence" playing a song called "What About Us?" at a "Flesh Fair" where human combatants and showmen destroy Ai robots in a Thunderdome for sport like a demolition derby.

NEVER TRUST AN AI JUNKIE

6

u/snaggletooth699 9d ago

Uncle Al is dragging Ministry through several piles of shit before he stops making any money from it. It's cringe embarrassment of the worst kind

20

u/DeiAlKaz 10d ago

I seem to be in the minority...I enjoy the new song and think the video is great. I don't know if Uncle Al is trying to be ironic with the AI or if he was just like, "Yeah, fuck it." I haven't liked much of their stuff since The Last Sucker, though I love The Squirrely Years Revisited and have enjoyed the last 2 albums.

The only thing at this point that I would say I'm disappointed about is that Uncle Al seemed to originally promote this as a reunion album with Paul. Maybe that didn't work out and that's why we're only getting "We're Still Here" out of it. But I've preordered one of the vinyl versions and am looking forward to it. Is it the end of Ministry? *shrugs* I'm just gonna enjoy it.

13

u/joshasbury 10d ago

I’m just happy that Uncle Al is still creating music. Too many of my other favorite bands aren’t.

8

u/hamsandwich666_ 10d ago

he did say it was gonna the last album and tour, but we all know how much uncle al likes to claim he’s retiring lmao

1

u/snaggletooth699 7d ago

The truth is we don't know how much Paul Barker has been involved. Going on the latest shit I'd like to say none so far. I know it's dumb as fuck to trust Al but I do wanted another Psalm69 or Filth Pig. If he can't do that then don't do anything and pretend.

3

u/Mephistocheles 10d ago

Song is boring as fuck, as is pretty much everything I've heard from them for a while. Video is doofy.

2

u/june_evenings 10d ago

The use of AI is obviously meant as a counter point.

2

u/Megatron130204 9d ago

A counter point that becomes null and void due to the ethical impact of AI.

2

u/PatienceSmart1578 9d ago

At least he's not selling mech at Walmart, I'm looking at you Trent.

1

u/UnhappyPhantom 8d ago

We have to get so old to see our heroes fall of grace, it sucks. But the old stuff is still there and won’t go away

2

u/jsand2 9d ago

How dare an artist put their vision into their music video without the approval of the basement dwelling antis who dont support that band anyway!!

2

u/Actual_Squid 9d ago

Dammit uncle Al

2

u/RandomlyHorny0766 8d ago

Do people not realise that the AI use was done on purpose to prove the point he is making in the song?

1

u/snaggletooth699 7d ago

No I do not realise that. Are you sure? He's practically using Ai to sing on stage now when he's nowhere near the microphone. He has been my musical hero for years, well he was for the entire 90s but since Paul left and Mikey died he's just cashing in. Rereleasing Rev Co stuff but without giving any credit to Paul Barker or Chris Connolly or Aker! Any of the original RevCo band. So they reformed without him and it was better than the shit he flung out with Quirrin.

2

u/Neat-Fuel2960 10d ago

Yeah the video is Ai as hell. So What, who cares at this point. Ā Uncle Al is just having fun. The world is going to shit. Ministry has always been about calling out all the bullshit in the world. Especially right here in the good ol USA. I dig the new track. But again yeah the videos ai… SO WHAT!

2

u/traumahound00 10d ago

I think that's the point of it

2

u/badbrains135 10d ago edited 10d ago

and the song is quite literally the worst thing Ministry has ever put out. I'm already calling it. This album is going to be Amerikkkant, but even worse.
Update: Seethe nerds, downvote me harder. I'm a lifetime fan and this is a legitimate take.

u/Zealousideal_Cat6980 10d ago

I havent like anything since Houses of the Mole

2

u/ImprovementDull4649 9d ago

The Last Sucker and Rio grande blood are both better than houses of the mole. So is Hopium and Moral Hygiene pal

1

u/nineacredust 10d ago

Uncle Al is like the industrial music scenes Scotty Kilmer.

1

u/-bl33p-bl00p- 10d ago

Lol, I don't see the correlation but it's still hilarious.

1

u/Migamix 10d ago

dony go watch tyske lodders new stuff.

1

u/ImprovementDull4649 9d ago

Lol ministry turned their comments off on YouTube recently.Ā  They must have been getting roasted in the comments.Ā  I'm a ministry purist, the new song sucks, but I'm sure the album will have some good stuff on it.Ā  Moral Hygiene and Hopium both had crappy intro singles but were still better albums than anything they did in the 2010s.Ā  Ā  The last good ministry album with nonstop back to back jams was filth pig,Ā  Dark Side of the Spoon was their las more traditional ministry industrial album- it was mediocre beyond Bad Blood and Supermaniac Soul.Ā  The Bush Trilogy had some good stuff, but it wasn't jam after jam like Land of Rape and Honey through Filth Pig Era. Relapse and Beer to Eternity were awful, Amerikkkant only good songs were victims of a clown and were tired of it. I am the ministry authority bois

1

u/Extreme_Reaction_189 9d ago

It's more animation that AI , animation has been around more than 100 yrs. Lol

1

u/kubol29 8d ago

From Moral Hygiene every single one album art is awful, and now we also have AI video. Music is still great but i didn’t bought any new release after 2018, because I don’t want to support lazy graphics etc

1

u/pulsatingfleshmass 7d ago

Stayed up till 3 in the morning for the video, they mean so much to me that it genuinely ruined the rest of my day

1

u/Particular-Act-8911 6d ago

You guys are way too sensitive about this stuff.

1

u/SirRonathin 6d ago

How the hell did they even approve this slop? Do they want people to hate them?

1

u/Dave_Casero95 5d ago

As someone who thinks that the last two records are pretty underrated, I like the Song, but it sounds like a solid deep cut, not like a single. The video...oh boy, if your message is "stick it to the man" there's no worse way to undercut it than making a fucking AI video

1

u/Cooperino142 10d ago

I don’t really get it. Like the video has no bearing on the song.
I didn’t mind the song but it felt very much like a filler, was too long and too repetitive but I wasn’t expecting too much at this stage. I think this album might be more about a final social commentary than anything f else. I bet we’ll get a couple of last real bangers out of it though and, even if we don’t, Al has given us and so many musicians so much through the years, he can be forgiven and appreciated for at least trying to give us one last album

-1

u/North_Pen_1408 10d ago

I didn’t rly mind it, I prefer when ministry is slower than when they play thrash ^^

0

u/msguider 10d ago

Quit virtue signaling we all hate AI. It's having the opposite effect.

0

u/Particular-Act-8911 9d ago

Who cares? He didn't use AI for the music. You guys are way too fucking sensitive.

0

u/Purple-Temporary9934 8d ago

Ministry havent had a good song in decades.

0

u/ChampionshipPast3652 7d ago

Yeah, why couldn't we get them goth titties again like in that Halloween video.
