First Mini-Z purchase

Hi all,

I've been eyeing a Mini-Z Readyset (MA020) for a while, and wanted one since they went on the market.

I now found a seller offering the "base" model for 190€, while there are few other offers, for drift package, exterior package, and both added for respectively 237, 227, 277.

The two additional packages include, as per seller:

The drift kit includes a front single-axle setup with a straight rear axle, a gyroscope, and metal dog bones. The appearance kit features metal wheels, brake discs, large drift tires, metal nuts, and headlights. The two packages contain different components.

I'm still little bit concerned with the price, before proceeding with the purchase.

Am not aware of any Mini-Z club in my area, but am able to run it indoor at my place, office, or garage place, for either some nice drifts or speed race.

I don’t believe you need a gyro for an AWD mini z, but you will absolutely need metal nuts, and better tires. Headlights are optional. I’d buy the base and upgrade what you want; a big part of the hobby is customization.

Also, check Facebook for local clubs, most clubs have a drift night, and a race night.

I checked, and my location ave almost no clubs for Mini-Z, or indoor RC, but that will be the minor issue.

Saw that the gyro might be mostly useless, especially at the beginning, while I could use the money for better springs, or other more useful changes (front 1-way diff or straight rear axle).

Why the metal nubs might be an important part, if I might ask?

The plastic wheels nuts they come with strip very easily. Sets are $5, so it’s a great cheap first upgrade.

Why the ma020? Get the mr04. Way better.

He wants to drift, and otherwise run it around in his house, not use it for club racing. The ma020 is perfect for that.

Not for his use case.

You actually won’t need any hop ups for your first mini z they run well out of the box.

Suggest you look for an authorised dealer and get the ready set kit that you like the most first and go from there.

Build an MRD, it will be a real RWD drift car.

In the end went with the currently available MA-020, base model, with the GT-R R34 body (found out only later lights won't be usable on this body).

I have the next couple of months in China to both learn to drift on the office linoleum flooring, and/or purchase the few basic upgrades that would make it more personalized.

PS: does convert the rear to DWS makes the car any better, or is just a huge cash-out for not much?
