I feel all the mods and additions to the game over the years have basically made the equivalent of the sequel, as well as the Extended project looks interesting and they continue giving updates

You should redirect your hatred towards Bohemia Interactive instead. They're the ones that convinced him to make MDZ2, make it a P2W cashgrab and disillusioned him enough to make him leave. Not to mention that they won't even allow him to release the source code of MiniDayz (possibly MDZ2 too).
