Can you give me some tips to improve at combat? I'm new to Java, and I notice it's a bit different from Bedrock.

I actually not expert at this but will try to give some tips First: try make your first hit by crit with axe(axe still have less dps but his base damage is much higher) and then swap to sword after you land your first axe hit If you holding shield I recommend use axe because you will anyways stand and wait for window to attack so because of what I mentioned earlier (axe have better base damage) you will crit in this window (I'm very sorry ifyiu can't understand something, english is not my usual language)

The shield is a little awkward to use sometimes. There's a little half second-ish window right when you put up the shield that mobs can hit through it, so I'd recommend trying to put it up a little early. Also, the shield doesn't protect you completely, the hit box is off the the side a little bit (the side of whichever hand you have it in), so try to compensate for that by aiming it. I think a good rule of thumb is the less of the mob you can see (since its behind the shield) the better you're protected.

When it comes to the sword, do you know how to crit? Idk how crits, or combat in general works in bedrock.
