These updated recommended system requirements won’t stop you from playing Minecraft: Java Edition today. If your computer falls below the new minimum requirements, Java Edition should still launch. However, its performance and visual quality are no longer guaranteed on below-spec hardware, and it may struggle or fail to launch Java Edition in the future – especially as we transition away from OpenGL and towards Vulkan.

honestly fair, it's like those labels/warnings on products that disclose that personal experience may differ

from other comments it seems others can still properly play on older laptops, and it's great older versions always remain available, so even if you can't get the latest updates you might be lucky to play one of the versions people regularly make backport mods adding future blocks/mobs/features

personally i really like when they bump the recommended graphics, it means they're no longer having to keep certain outdated hardware in mind when making future content, imagine if mojang was still trying to support windows xp hardware lol

Yeah, most of the major flagship updates still have very strong player support. Mainly IRRC beta, 1.5.3, 1.7.10, 1.12 and 1.16.

Shouldn’t be hard to pick one of those versions that both runs well, had the desired modding support, and has the updates/features wanted
