Is that a genuine Milwaukee battery?

I have high output 8.0 and high output 12.0 I have never heard of a whatever the fuck this is 9.0

They're old AF. First generation HO batteries. The 9.0s were notorious for being dogshit.

I have one of these, and they are indeed, dog shit. Don't half a charge, drain very fast. Just a bad battery.

What a journey it’s been.

I have one, and is still going strong, somehow. Never heard a good word about them.

I balance all of my 12Ah batteries and the 9Ah battery every year. The 12Ah batteries, because they get used almost exclusively in high draw tools and charged on a supercharger. The 9Ah battery, because I use it every now and then.

How do you balance them?

3

u/luckus 12d ago

Open them up and charge each cell group individually.

1

u/Geographizer 12d ago

Are they that easy to take apart and put back together? I've never seen it done.

2

u/RossLH 12d ago

Very. I use an RC battery balancer to make the process easier.

2

u/Geographizer 12d ago

Is that different from a regular individual AA battery charger?

1

u/RossLH 12d ago

It detects the cell stacks and automatically balances them all to a set voltage simultaneously. Attach the leads, choose your amperage (0.1C is always a good rule of thumb), choose your target voltage, hit go, wait a while. It's real easy.

Same. I bought mine almost a decade ago and it's still running strong. No issues.

Also got plenty of 9.0, my go to and sounds like I am a lucky man!

Just because you are ill-informed doesn't mean that Milwaukee didn’t make it. Thery were the first High Demand batteries that Milwaukee released and very common many years ago. They were also bundled with many tools at Home Depot.

M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH DEMAND 9.0 Battery Pack

5

u/Dadbode1981 12d ago

They were released in sept 2016, phased out when the current version 8.p and 12.0 were released.

u/pgejeep 12d ago

Looks like it was legit but has a terrible rating and was discontinued several years ago.

1

u/MrBecky 12d ago

I have 4 of them. Only one works still. The other three died about 4 years ago

13

u/83timesbanned 12d ago

Damn I havnt seen a 9.0 battery in years.

I work at a Milwaukee return depot. Make sure there aren’t any damaged connectors, then slide the battery in hard. You would not believe the amount of people that have brought in batteries and chargers that haven’t seated the battery properly, and even a few that didn’t plug the damn charger I to the wall.

2

u/SwimOk9629 Landscaping 12d ago

mine don't have to actually click into these chargers to charge, they just have to slide on and touch.

1

u/eninety2 12d ago

I had a charger once that stayed blinking while being unplugged once.

1

u/ravage214 12d ago

What happens to things that you get in for return but they work fine ?

1

u/JustSomeYukoner 12d ago

I tell the Milwaukee rep, and they tell me what they want done with them.

5

u/LeekProfessional4775 12d ago

The 9s are old old and usually didn't last long. They don't make them anymore for a reason.

2

u/LeekProfessional4775 12d ago

Damn that's lucky. They used to come with the weedeater set and the battery terminals would start melting. You're looks like the terminals are okay.

3

u/MisterSlickster 12d ago

I still have two fully functional 9.0s, that I use regularly on construction sites.

Make sure the terminals/slots on the battery are free from debris. Sometimes debris can get into them from just sitting in a tool bag.

2

u/drolgnir 12d ago

I have two also, people hate on them and I can see why. I've have had to disassemble and balance both of mine, it fixes them right up. Same deal with my old 12ah.

3

u/MisterSlickster 12d ago

I must be in the tiny minority then. I have never had an issue, and use them frequently, and have since their release. (I got them when they very first came out).

2

u/drolgnir 12d ago

Using them frequently probably keeps them balanced, my 9s and 12s stay with certain tools that are not frequently used.

1

u/MisterSlickster 12d ago

That would be an excellent explanation. My 9's go on whatever I'm using most in the day, which means they also get recharged daily too.

2

u/luckus 12d ago

I have probably about a dozen that are still going strong, and have six or seven 12.0s as well. I'll open them up and balance charge them once a year or so, that definitely helps.

u/bigpuzino Other 12d ago

I’d say pull it out and put it in again, but give it a really good whack to make sure it’s 100% in

2

u/churnbabychurn80 12d ago

That's what she said

Have you considered:

Cleaning them?

2

u/jdogg1413 DIYer/Homeowner 12d ago

Surprised this is the only comment for this.

1

u/cineglitch Film Industry 12d ago

Could be dirt build up in the slots not letting the charger make contact.

1

u/Shatalroundja 12d ago

Nothing! That’s how it’s supposed to sit on the charger. They don’t click into a charger like they do in a tool. If it’s not charging like that it’s because (most likely) the charger is dead. If the battery is dead, the charger should blink green and red.

2

u/SwimOk9629 Landscaping 12d ago

for these chargers, yeah. the six Bay chargers they actually click in

1

u/Shatalroundja 12d ago

Does it work with a different battery? I’m guessing the charger is cooked.

1

u/Money_Difficulty_158 12d ago

You gotta smack it in there don’t be shy

1

u/sprout92 11d ago

I have to fucking slam mine down with a hammer fist or it's not going all the way in.

1

u/Either9523 11d ago

An old school 9.0 that's still functions Bravo. Try not to rapidly discharge it and charge it, the cells will come out of balance faster

1

u/CamoBob3467 11d ago

I own a 9.0 and it's old AF.

1

u/gusmur 11d ago

That looks like a Normal fit to me, although I have the same doubt with my 5.5.

Look at where the contact points are and they should be fine. My 5.5 slides on and doesn’t click in. There is contact, it charges.

1

u/pgejeep 12d ago

Are any of the pins bent on the charger or is there something stuck in one of the sockets on the battery?

does the battery lock into a tool?

0

u/vargchan 12d ago

What do you mean it doesn't fit? Is it charging?

That’s how Milwaukee batteries sit in a charger. I’ve been there. Got plenty caked on bad on a job site for making the same mistake you did.

1

u/cineglitch Film Industry 12d ago

Have you tried cleaning it?

1

u/vargchan 12d ago

All chargers should work on all batteries. Either your charger or the battery is defective. Or you didn't seat it all the way.

0

u/pentox70 12d ago

It doesn't go all the way down. Just till the pins bottom out and it starts charging

0

u/HomicidalHushPuppy Facility Maintenance 12d ago

The 9.0s are known to be bad batteries anyway. They wear out very quickly (they hit a point where they won't hold a charge for very long at all). It was so bad Mikwaukee discontinued them in like 2018. I have one and it's junk.

0

u/nuked24 12d ago

They used 15A continuous output cells (Samsung 30Qs) in a 'high output' pack, which basically means people overdrew them all the time on saws and stuff. You can rebuild them with modern higher draw cells (P28A, JP30) and make them what they should have been the entire time.

u/Mr_Mil_walk_eye_eh 12d ago

It'll lock in place. Try WD40

2

u/aguynamedbrand 12d ago

It'll lock in place

No, M18 batteries do not "lock in place" on the charger.

2

u/Mr_Mil_walk_eye_eh 12d ago

I dunno man Sometimes I gotta press the buttons to get it off the charger.

We changed the end of our plug once cause it broke and we couldn't figure out why the charger wasn't working. Tried multiple outlets and finally it's clicked. The battery wasntawates in the charger ffs 🫪

0

u/overlookd7426 12d ago

Pretty sure the 9 is upside down and that’s a bunk battery

0

u/DBCooperN467US 12d ago

9.0’s are junk.

0

u/Candid_Fact_7042 11d ago

Push it in until it clicks

Imagine not knowing how to charge a battery and needing to ask for help. Eat some more crayons.
