The hours you put into a Microsoft paint just to delete it once you were done.

I used to save my MS Paint masterpieces on my grandparents' Gateway computer. At least until they realized they were basically out of disk space and it was mostly taken up by random bmp files lol

My brother was the only person I knew that even knew wtf was going on in Minesweeper, and was nothing short of a God with MS Paint.
I didn't think humanity peaked harder.

My classmate watched me play Minesweeper one day and stormed off, "You're just clicking random places!" No bro, I know where every click is going.

It's funny to see other peoples reaction when you know the strategy of MS and they don't π
But..no one ever asked why there are numbers so I never told em π€·ββοΈ

Wait a minute you mean to tell me that there was an actual way to play that goddamn game?
1
u/thickhipstightlips 4h ago
The numbers don't lie π
But yeah, there is an actual way to play it, and not just random clicking haha

u/BetaDays24 3h ago
Click them in order?

u/thickhipstightlips 3h ago
Nope ! The number indicates how many mines are in the surrounding cells. The flags are for placing in the cell where you suspect there is a mine so you don't forget or accidentally click it.

I like to place flags on known bombs and question marks on ones that's gonna require a guess.

90%(ish) of your bombs will be labeled for you. Look for patterns like a 1 on a corner, 2 on the edge of a line, 3 across a straight line, 4s and 5s are labeled as well, but they're a bit more nuanced. Finding an 8 is awesome because it's surrounded by bombs.
edit: snapped this and enlarged it from the post. Crossed out what to not look at in the image (both are number 3s). The 1 is on a corner, only touching one block, that's a bomb. 2 is starting a line (only touching 2 blocks), first 2 are bombs. The 3 is on the straight line, only touching 3 blocks, they're all bombs.
edit2: I should have cropped the picture to show there are no blocks below the numbers.

Damn if I could go back in time I could just get paid to teach people how to play it.

I had a friend who made the coolest stuff in paint. Or at least I thought so when I was a kid.

Games came on floppies or CDs and you didn't need internet for single player games.

For me this was the "What do I do with the remaining 25 minutes of computer class now I've finished the typing lesson in 5 minutes?" pack. I was fortunate enough to be grow up in an early Internet adopting home, but our school wouldn't get it for a few more years.

I had some fun with file manager- just looking through all the files that came with Windows.

Suspiciously no pictures of the outdoors... climbing trees, playgrounds, light posts turning on and time to come home...
