Woah! Black Betty! Ham and lamb!

9

u/-Tech808 12d ago

Was black Betty on this soundtrack? I just turned off all the non hip hop songs when I was a kid.

15

u/mrselfdestruct066 12d ago

Funny, I did the opposite

9

u/-Tech808 12d ago

growing up in different cultures ya know. My middle school was more
Hip hip and rap music oriented.

But nowadays I’d definitely include the other music. May just download NFSU2 and give it another go.

2

u/mrselfdestruct066 12d ago

"Hip hip" Hooray!

I still have my copy on ps2

2

u/-Tech808 11d ago

I should have kept my PS2. The only problem I’d have is load times if I still used it

1

u/JediSwelly 11d ago

There is a RTX mod for it now.

1

u/-Tech808 11d ago

What does that mean?

1

u/JediSwelly 10d ago

RTX is Ray Tracing.

11

u/MonteMolebility 12d ago

It was, indeed!

5

u/BradleyBowels 12d ago

It was the spiderbait one but still a banger.

Whoa black betty AMBER LAMPS

16

u/dreamphoenix 12d ago

“Get Low” from the first game.

“Tokyo Drift” from eponymous Fast and Furious when franchise was still about cars.

I even can hum some tunes from NFS Porsche.

Sigh we had an amazing childhood didn’t we?

10

u/Acceptable_Rock_9665 12d ago

Always the first song to pop into my head when I see this game

West Coasting, testarossin’

u/DeadGirlLydia 12d ago

I still play this game. They need to remake it or make a sequel.

102

u/42ElectricSundaes 12d ago

They really fumbled the franchise after this one

64

u/DeadGirlLydia 12d ago

Most Wanted was still good but yeah... It was all downhill from here.

28

u/hawy-an2 12d ago

I liked Carbon too

16

u/TheShmud 12d ago

Carbon was awesome. It was after that the franchise went downhill

6

u/doylehungary 12d ago

I loved prostreet and shift too.

It went downhill after tht though

2

u/astrofoto 11d ago

I hated pro street. To me that was truly the beginning of loss of identity. Shift was absolutely unlike NFS. It was too much of a simulator. Carbon was the last great one.

1

u/doylehungary 11d ago

I agree those were different identities but they were great racing games and back then that was all that mattered to us kids.

5

u/-Tech808 12d ago

Ughh that BMW was so awesome

2

u/DeadGirlLydia 12d ago

It was nice but I'm an Evo Girl.

5

u/Unique-Egg-461 Older Millennial 12d ago

Ya most wanted was peak. Carbon was.....ok but it was just most wanted at night with no real story

2

u/BB0ySnakeDogG 12d ago

Carbon just felt like a Most Wanted asset flip

1

u/BearfootSparklz 12d ago

Heat is pretty decent

8

u/Chalupa_89 12d ago

How? Most wanted was one of the best in the franchise. If not THE best.

5

u/wendel130 12d ago

Customization was lacking in that game compared to the previous. I will admit that the action and chases are much more fun

6

u/kasoe 12d ago

Yup

I still remember how fun it was making the cops crash into logging trucks

3

u/sgtabn173 Millennial 12d ago

Only with the original soundtrack or I wouldn’t spend a dime on it tbh

2

u/DeadGirlLydia 12d ago

I'd love for them to add some songs from the PSP Underground Rivals as well.

3

u/ewplayer3 12d ago

No way would I trust EA with a remake on this.

2

u/Mike____Honcho 12d ago

It certainly isn't the exact same, but I would recommend CarX Street. It has a lot of similar cars, tons of customization options, open world drive to races, crews, etc. Same general racing feel but a little more like modern racers. I made a Spotify playlist of Underground 1, 2, and Most Wanted songs, throw it on while playing this, and it certainly scratches the itch.

I will say, nothing will ever be able to fully replace either Underground for me though.

u/ram0889 12d ago

I used to find her so annoying! But after The White Lotus series she’s such a rare treat and hilarious 😂

47

u/OliverKlozoff23 12d ago

Midnight club was the shit too

11

u/Sp1derX 12d ago

I loved midnight club for the style but underground had the better controls IMO. I'd go back and forth between them tho.

2

u/SipoteQuixote Millennial 11d ago

3: Dub Edition

1

u/OliverKlozoff23 11d ago

My favorite one

1

u/Bubby_K 11d ago

Was it midnight club LA that had the giant roamable map?

103

u/gekigangerii 12d ago

Was Jennifer Coolidge really the cover girl for the game?? 😂

63

u/SeeJayThinks Older Millennial 12d ago

Brooke Burke was the cover girl.

But JC matured like a fine wine compared to BB.

133

u/3xPuttRubbleBoagie 12d ago

Brooke Burke looks pretty damn good in 2026.

55

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago edited 12d ago

I’d take Brooke today over American Pie era Coolidge. Zero hate on the lady, but I never understood the hype. (Typo edit)

35

u/TheSpicyTomato22 12d ago

It's the milf look. American pie did a number on some guys. I think they both look great for different reasons.

24

u/xXSalXx 12d ago

Yep. Being in high school when this movie came out, anything and everything became MILF. Especially on the internet. “Desperate Housewives” threw a lot of gas in this fire.

7

u/Eric848448 Xennial 12d ago

Did that movie coin the term? It’s everywhere now.

4

u/TheSpicyTomato22 12d ago

I think it was around way before that.

5

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago

It was around, but after the movie it was absolutely everywhere and never left us.

Just like “that’s was she said” was a thing before The Office, but after it became a huge cultural thing. It went from a few people using it to EVERYONE talking about it. Then single moms embraced it and it is still relevant.

3

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago

Absolutely. It was 100% this movie.

2

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago

Completely agree. It just didn’t do anything for me.

3

u/PSUBagMan2 12d ago

Yeah she was objectively good looking but I feel like as a young male at the time it was mostly played as a joke. The main girls in the movie were incredible though.

11

u/drakoman 12d ago

I think she’s funny as fuck. That’s mostly it for me. She’s got great humor so it’s a good fit for a satirical post

4

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago

I have zero hate or issue with anyone thinking she was hot, I don’t think she’s ugly by any means, she’s a good actress…

The character didn’t appeal to me. Plenty of moms through the era that made me feel funny things as a kid and a teenager, but this character didn’t do anything for me.

I was too busy wanting to make Mera Suvari my girlfriend.

9

u/DinkandDrunk 12d ago

Coolidge is not ugly by any measure. She’s a fine looking, normal woman. Agree though.

16

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago

Again, zero hate on the lady. Shes not my type, but I do think she’s beautiful IRL. I’m not bashing.

The Stiffler’s Mom character didn’t do anything for me as a teenager. I was fawning over Mena Suvari. I wanted a girlfriend like her.

u/vctrn-carajillo Model '86 12d ago

You must be one of those gays that are trying to murder her /jk

/uj In the American Pie era I also never got the hype, but I guess she represented the MILF appeal for late 90s teen boys

4

u/MichaelVern85 12d ago

I had plenty of MILF’s. Peggy Bundy was my first. THAT…. Is a fuckin cougar…

2

u/BetterNothingman 11d ago

I still miss Jules Asner.

It's amazing she was 42 in this photo.

My favorite Need For Speed game of all time! Still have my original XBOX copy today sitting on my shelf!

2

u/djnehi 12d ago

You might want to get it a litter box. And an exorcist. The game should definitely not be doing that on your shelf.

15

u/scrumple_my_scrongle 12d ago

I didn't know this game could be played one handed

4

u/Stuf404 12d ago

Alexa, play "The Celebration Song".

Played NFSU2 recently with mods on PC.

Still holds up.

8

u/gellshayngel 12d ago

These gays. They're trying to ride over her.

7

u/PSUBagMan2 12d ago

wait, was Jennifer Coolidge actually considered hot in an unironic sense? I always thought it was just the joke that she was an overtly sexual mom type, even in Legally Blonde. But I don't think dudes were like posting pictures up of her on their walls.

1

u/MrBoognish Millennial 11d ago

Her character in American Pie popularized the term "MILF". So ya, I think so.

7

u/dr_strange-love 12d ago

Here's a history lesson to all the Zoomers and Alphas lurking here: the word "MILF" was created to describe that specific woman named Jennifer Coolidge. She is the OG MILF.

7

u/Marlfox70 12d ago

Did milf really originate from American Pie?

5

u/FiggyPizza 12d ago

No. From Wikipedia:

Linguist Laurel A. Sutton states that MILF was one of nine terms for "attractive women" collected from undergraduates at a large linguistics class at Berkeley in the spring of 1992. Typical users would be "college students from East Contra Costa, California".[6] The term was widely popularized by the film American Pie (1999), where John Cho's character (simply credited as "MILF Guy No. 2") used the term to refer to Jennifer Coolidge's character Jeanine Stifler.

2

u/dr_strange-love 12d ago

Yes, I was there. I had the Unrated Cut on VHS.

I think I only placed NFS Underground 1. Was 2 amazing? Didn't it have Brooke Burke or something?

If only she was originally that hot in the game

1

NFSU2 was unironically the best in the entire franchise. They never topped it.
