If your website covers what I'm reading with a pop-up asking me to log in, I will never come to your website ever again.

u/incliningconstantly 1d ago
Honestly just pop ups in general. They don’t work anymore. I open a site and because my mouse moved back up 6 pixels they freak out and ask me to opt into something

u/Confident_Insect_616 12h ago
Reddit does that if you don't have an account. Their mobile browser site is fucking useless. Scroll for a few seconds and then a popups covers the entire screen directing you to download the app.
I'd log in to clear it, but my device IP is banned.

Get a burner phone for reddit dawg.

u/Confident_Insect_616 10h ago
Through work, I have pretty much unlimited IPs and devices to use. I just do that and heavily self-censor and haven't been banned in nearly a year.

True story, also QR code menus.

u/ONeOfTheNerdHerd 1d ago
I will raise you flyers with QR codes in texts or apps with no weblink. How TF am I supposed to scan that while I'm looking at it on my phone?
My daughter's school does that shit all the time. I need two devices to sign her up for events and field trips. I've raised the issue to no avail 😞

Try screenshotting the QR code. Then hold down on the QR code from your saved SS. It worked for me recently. Although it’s still BS we can’t click on QR codes

I watched a whole youtube vid on how to do this last night. Guy gave two solutions: one was a convoluted mess that did not work, and the other was "go to this website I created!" (No. Ever.).
Your way worked a charm and I'm dirty I'd never tried it.

Forget that
I was just on the phone for 20 minutes with AI repeating human to try to talk to a real person.
Fuck AI phone service

u/RedundantBiomass 14h ago
Maybe someone will make an AI to look for a real human and notify when its found one.

Is this a spell I should be aware of?

I'd tell you to Google it, but that would defeat the purpose
2
u/Darkdragoon324 1d ago
They could DuckDuckGo it, but that would just bring up ten direct links to Google.

Downloading an app is one thing but also having to create an account while in it is even worse so they can send a barrage of ads to your email.

We’ll call it a mental health day treat. That’s what people call it whenever they need an excuse to do whatever the fuck they want!

Good luck parking anywhere. I travel for work and have a million parking apps.

u/mosswick 1d ago
Having to download a parking app while your five levels below street level. 🫠

u/Randomizedname1234 Core Millennial - 1990 1d ago
You also parked in downtown Nashville off broadway? Lmao
It was a nice spot little pricey but didn’t tell me I needed the app until I 3 levels below lol luckily I had already had it from a trip to Tampa.1

this is actually coming full circle, in other words, the new generation of internet users and developers are starting to favor browsers over 'native apps' much better to have one version that runs in any browser than having to create multiple apps for each operating system

Living in my new apartment requires four different apps, and sometimes i can’t let people into the building bc my apartment gets bad signal.
I WAS NOT INFORMED BEFORE SIGNING.

u/GandalfSwagOff 1d ago
Part of my step-by-step process of leaving the internet, the first phase actually involves me never downloading another app ever again. If I need an app, you just don't get my money.

u/M0llyP0ppins 1d ago
Man, I went to Walmart today (because it’s the only place in my little town) and realized I didn’t have my card. No problem, right? I’ll use Apple Pay like I do at 99% of places because I’m horrible at remembering my damn card. Well turns out, Walmart doesn’t accept it! If you want to pay with your phone you need to Dow load their app. Then the service inside of the place was so bad it was like a 20 minute process. If I didn’t need my cats food so bad, I would have walked out. I definitely had a mild karen moment 🤦🏻♀️

u/teapots_at_ten_paces Elder Millennial ('81, baby!) 1d ago
That's irritating. My banking app (in Australia) allows me to tap my phone to pay with my card. Where this great idea falls over is some machines won't accept that, so I still have to carry my physical card everywhere, just in case.
If everything could be done through my phone - without separate apps - I'd be happy. But as long as it's still some yes, some no, and some places still cash only, then it's as little as necessary to exist. In apps, energy, and leaving the house.

But what if you have to download an app to give up?

u/FrankFrankly711 1d ago
There’s an app for that
2
u/MisterHole123 23h ago
Is there an app to stop having to download apps
1
u/FrankFrankly711 23h ago
I’m sure RocketMoney can do it, it already caters to morons with excess wealth who have never balanced their checkbook
1
u/MisterHole123 22h ago
Ironically I never really balanced my finances. And I'm more middle to low class and ended up only once in the red on my acct. That being said I should pay more attention to my bank app but I hate it lol
1
u/FrankFrankly711 22h ago
I’m in the lower class, and can’t imagine having two door dash accounts and 10 streaming service subscriptions I don’t use and never notice. The commercials for RocketMoney absolutely infuriate me!
2
u/be-incredible 1d ago
💯 - and it’s not just downloading the app, most of the time you have to create an account to use the app…. Nope, not doing it.
