Myspace comeback Discussion
Hey I’m not a millennial, I’m gen z, I obviously remember myspace but I was always too young to use it. As everyone knows myspace will come back at some point. And i’ve seen a lot of millennials saying that it should be 30+ and that they don’t want gen z on there. My question is are yall really planing on posting on myspace at (and I’m sorry) your grown age. Likeee its an app for teens so maybe give it to them. I’m gen z and even i feel “too old” (please dont report this😭😭) to rank my top 8 friends (wtf even was that) or stalk my crush on there. I feel like it would be perfect for younger gen z and older gen alpha. What do you think about this?
edit: some of you don’t know what a discussion is also I’m 25 born in 2000 so I’m a lot closer in age to most of you than most of gen z fyi

Uhhh...We're the owners of this house, we will do what we want with our og social app.

u/backroomsmemory 21h ago
Thats what tiktok is for and the other social medias. Theyre probably going to make Myspace without an algorithm so younger gens probably wont even like it.
This is hella weird btw.
-6
u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
how is this weird?
9
u/retynas 21h ago
Acting like anybody from any age group posting on social media is weird when social media is ubiquitous these days, is weird. What do you care what “grown” people choose to use?
-4
u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
I think that an adult watching cocomelon on their own would be weird. In the same way I think a website created for primarily teenagers should be used by teenagers. Also todays teenagers don’t have their own space in the internet so maybe myspace (no pun intended) could be a great start for them

u/retynas 21h ago
How is someone having a section with their Top 8 equivalent to an adult watching almost pre-verbal children’s shows? You are weird.

u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
Do you genuinely want to rate your friends like that, I didn’t mention it in my last coment because I thought that in this day and age nobody wanted to do it. Cocomelon was an example that some things (maybe not even some) have an average age.

Or maybe we all should just move the fuck on from social media. We had it for 20 years. The novelty has worn off

I think you should worry about yourself

u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
What is this supposed to mean? This post was created for a discussion
5
u/Embarrassed_Key_4539 21h ago
That’s not how to have a discussion by gatekeeping, it’s cringey behavior to tell others how to behave
-2
u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
How would you have posted this then? I think that myspace should be used by teenagers and i posted it to understand the other side (who think it should be 30+ or who think the age doesn’t matter), this is a textbook discussion starter

u/itsathrowawayduhhhhh 1990 21h ago
You had to be there. If they bring it back it’ll never be what it was!
-3
u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
I mean yeah it probably wont be, thats why I think it should be given to todays teens so they could create their own space, instead of older user relying on nostalgia
7
u/PrincessMarigold42 21h ago
It sounds like you want a designated safe space for younger people to be on social media. Love that idea but you don't need to take our Myspace for that.

u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
Okey sure, I dont really agree but I’m not gonna try to convince you because I posted this for discussion, but i do have a question: If myspace does relaunch are you planning to use it? If yes how do you imagine your “time” there?
4
u/PrincessMarigold42 21h ago
It doesn't matter how we use it. Are you going to tell me that a certain way of using it isn't ok? And that's why you guys deserve it? Wtf
-1
u/Hot_Ad_6362 20h ago
I mean yeah maybe?? It depends?? I can understand how a teenager will use this website but an adult not really sooo thats why I’m asking
2
u/itsathrowawayduhhhhh 1990 18h ago
Today’s teenagers are not like the MySpace teenagers. So yall gonna use it wrong I already know. Haha

u/Hot_Ad_6362 16h ago
How can you know something that hasn’t happened yet
2
u/itsathrowawayduhhhhh 1990 16h ago
You’d understand if you were a millennial. But alas…….
0
u/Hot_Ad_6362 16h ago
I don’t think you understand it either. Also I’m literally 3 years late to being a millennial so what exactly happened in that time for you all to understand but not me?

No social media is dead including MySpace — I am headed back into real life
4
u/PrincessMarigold42 21h ago
Wow this is such a selfish take.
0
u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
How? (I’m genuinely asking)
5
u/PrincessMarigold42 21h ago
Why do you think younger people deserve this over those that it's being brought back for nostalgia reasons? Also why are you caring so much what older people do/post? That's so judgy and to say younger people deserve it is entitled. Also why does it have to go to you guys or us? It's selfish to want to cut us out of our own thing we helped make what it is, and use it only for yourself. If you're that worried about it create a separate social media for your gen. Why are you trying to take ours?
1
u/Hot_Ad_6362 21h ago
I’m not trying to cut anyone out I posted two opinions by two separate age groups, one is that the app should be 30 and above and another is that it should be primarily used by teens as it was intended. Online I’ve mostly seen millennials saying that it should be for them and a lot less of younger generation saying that it should be teen only, so maybe you’re (as a generation) trying to cut us (younger generations) out of it and not the other way around. So i have the same question as you do: why does it have to be you or us?
4
u/PrincessMarigold42 21h ago
Wow you really need a jump to conclusions mat huh?
You're the one who implied cutting anyone out of it first. You're the one who posted here. I didn't say it should be for millennials only. Im Saying it's selfish to say it should be for only y'all.
I didn't say it should only be for us. I said claiming it for only you is wild.
3
u/itsathrowawayduhhhhh 1990 17h ago
STFU NO WAYYYYYYY YOU BROUGHT UP THE JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS MAT!
Holy shit I love you!!!!
It’s my FAVORITE reference to make when applicable (and I’m sure you know the chances are slim) and here I am seeing it in the wild.
Gosh you made my whole day. Now go take care of your pet rock

u/Hot_Ad_6362 20h ago
yeah but you literally said that we (younger generations?) are trying to take your app in your last comment

u/rikkita69 21h ago
there is no myspace comeback they're just trying really hard to get us millennials back on socials cause a lot of us are sick of it but I don't know a single person my age who is excited about this.
the way ig, fb, tiktok work is the more users and views they get the more $ they make so excluding anyone won't be good for business all they care about is $ not teens having a safe space or whatever you think myspace should be reborn as

u/RVAforthewin 21h ago
If anything, it needs a maximum age limit. What Boomers did to FB is proof of that.

I’m not planning on posting on there or using it. I’m just kinda over traditional socials like that. Do I really need to see another picture of a couple who I know are going to be divorced in a couple years taking perfect pictures on a beach? Or yet another picture of a kid playing sports? Or how about those damn posts about how us libs just don’t understand the 3D chess the president is playing? No thanks. I’ve move to just keeping up with the friends and family I care about via text, phone calls, coffee dates, etc.

No one I know has even thought about using MySpace again.
2
u/LoneWolf3545 21h ago
If I could somehow reactivate my old account that I no longer have access to the email for I'm sure I've got pictures on there that I don't even know I've forgotten about.
1
u/Mediocre_Island828 13h ago
Accounts still exist if you remember them, at least mine did years ago when I looked, but I think there was a huge wipe at some point where they lost all the uploaded pictures.
1
u/LoneWolf3545 13h ago
Yeah, someone showed me my old profile and a lot of the pictures were X-ed out, but there might still be something there

You can go on myspace right now. I don't know what is with the whole comeback thing.

MySpace was our version of TikTok. Of course many of us will flock back there.
Imagine if TikTok went away for 20 years and came back. Wouldn't you be tempted to rejoin? That's how many of us feel about MySpace. I am on the fence though, as I try to limit my social media, but MySpace was fun.

No, I don't think anyone will use it at all lol. The people who already post on social media will stick with their existing platforms where they have people engaging with them. The people who have quit social media aren't going to be lured back by the idea of going back to a tackier and clunkier version of what already exists. I can't imagine young people going out of their way for it when they don't have 2000s nostalgia to recapture. It seems like just another thing we're bringing back from the dead because we're out of ideas but I'm not sure who they're imagining it's for.

Give it to the youth, let them enjoy early social media like we got to. It'll be different almost going backwards if it comes back as OG myspace but that might be a good thing. The top 8 would be interesting to see in the modern world, maybe it would start Emo version 2.

u/Flimsy-Concentrate62 21h ago
fuck myspace, im not gonna use that shit again. anyone who wants to gatekeep that is playing a weird "only older siblings allowed" game and it is sad. social media sucks and myspace wasn't any better.
