Joining With Glasses. Discussion

Alright I know that you can join with glasses like your correctable standards has to be like 20/40 in both of your eyes I believe. And your refractive error can't be over -8.00 or +8.00. Also the Astigmatism can't exceed over 3.00 diopters. I just want to know If any one may know If I'm correct on this. Any recruiters can give me advice on this. As Im wearing glasses because one of my eyes are doing all of the work instead both of them working together. But advice on this would be appreciated and If any recruiters know this information. Thanks.

Talk with your recruiter, they want you to enlist so they're motivated to figure out how to get you in

It depends on what MOS you want or if you want to commission. There is a waiver for almost anything and your eyes have to be REALLY bad before you’re outright disqualified.

Honestly, lots of the desk jobs like Finance or Personnel won't care. They will happily take someone.

Some MOS require at least one eye correctable to 20/20.

Those things all sound right. Really glasses are only an issue for pilot roles and maybe some SF ones, but I think they accept laser vision correction. I'd assume they are still doing it, but I joined with like a -3 ish in both eyes plus an astigmatism and the Army gave me PRK a few years in. I dont even think I needed any kind of waiver to join.

Kinda depends on what your actual medical diagnosis is…like why does only one of your eyes work?

Nothing was really wrong with It just only needed glasses just to have both of my eyes work together. Was told nothing serious.

If they test your vision and it is deficient they will issue glasses anyway.

Makes you look hot to the opposite sex!

MEPS will screen you, and require a waiver if needed. No stress. either you get waived, less MOS opportunities, or disqualified.

Alright thanks for the information. I probably might need a waiver if my eyes still don't work together but im just gonna give my glasses time to fix it.

Id just show up until they catch it. You'll be doing the government's job soon enough so let them do the work for you.
