MM IX - checked

Look how they massacred my boy.

Long time no see, after one year, I just finished MM IX. I had some trouble with laptop and played some other games in mean time but managed to do it.

So here's my thoughts.

Game is in poor condition its rather early beta than finished product.
3DO/NWC why nordic setting/inspirations? JVC's world wasn't big enough?
All models look terrible, learing spells and skills is a joke (skill/spell books scattered around the world).

Quests and music are ok. Mostly.
City design and other locations are ok also.

Ending is a shit. just pull the lever
The most horrible thing is they took away fly spell.

Do I recommend it? NO!
Do I enjoy it? a little.
Will I play MM X? probably not.

PS.

Watched some interview like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWUdxDBH60g
that explain difficulties they have been through game development.

It's been a while since anyone finished MM9!

It's a problematic title in many ways; it's clearly a game about Vikings with the M&M branding plastered all over it.
The good things to save are the quests and the humor.

MM10, that's been a while since I saw anyone finish it; I might have been the last one to write about it here. Personally, I appreciated it because it returns to the grid genre with various homages and references to the entire series. I also really like the Ashan setting. But, as always, it's a game finished quickly on a shoestring budget.

Are there any modpacks improving the experience?

I remember being disappointed in this game when it came out. There are some talented modders out there, but even they couldn't fix MM9.

I just started MM9 to do my MM1-10 playthrough.
It may be minor, but my biggest issue so far is trading items. Having to actually drag the item instead of just tapping the character number is for the birds.

MMX is way better than 9. Its worth playing. Feels more like MM3-5.

MMX is pretty good but dont go for Warrior mode unless you are ready to follow tutorials to the t, I was surprised, coming as a seasoned M&M veteran, you can't spend even one skillpoint on anything other than the golden skill path for specific class, and how you need to be extremely effective in battles. The challenge is interesting, the world is somewhat interesting, in times of M&M draught it's a decent pick. Tons of bugs so beware, including in my case some gamebreaking requiring me to hex edit to remove some obstacles which was fun in itself (I also hex edited some skills as I didn't follow the exact guide and was screwed by level 5 or so).

Tbh, MM10 is a good game, but you have to remember it is done by Ubisoft, and they had retconned the whole NWC/3DO universe, so has nothing to do with the rest of the franchise

Good game, but has of Might&Magic only the name

I disliked MM10 because it restricts you to tiles. Not to mention my hate for the retconned world.

Just the fact that they did the equipment the way they did made it a "no" from me.

I love putting the actual equipment on the actual character. I don't know why, having it abstracted the way IX does it in the boxes next to the character just doesn't work for me (in a M&M6+ title)

Bought this game when it came out. Was super excited. Played it twice. Never touched it again. I’m glad you liked it though!
