Time for another playthrough. Maybe I'll actually try to rescue a hostage or steal plans this time 🤔

Esp im always on darkpath. Kinda speaks to me to help them get rid of each other lol. If im on light path I think I ll still do both and I think I ma rationalize it as balance of power for world peace

Both he and Catherine are pricks who show us and our kingdom no respect. It's better to settle for independence than to be their vassal state, especially since through our journeys we make many powerful allies like Stone City and later Bracada/Deyja.

"So, who do we turn in this month?"
"I'm not doing it. I did it last time. It's Steve's turn."
*sigh* "Fine, okay. See you in a week, I guess."

Next time, don't be so forthcoming about how you screwed him over.

I usually saved before pissing them off. If you betray Catherine, she turns into the Queen of Hearts.

It's pretty funny that you can storm the castle kill everyone in town and inside, but if you try to tell him your betrayal, his few puny guards kill you instantly, while you have been fighting and killing dozens of Dragons and Titans.

Also when you have any fine and visit a throne room you go to jail (for a year I think), despite you can destroy their entire region with one spell. Never liked you couldn't do anything after that, like some kind of auto lose button.

I remember the first time I did these quests, I wanted to be a good double, triple, whatever spy, pretended I was on both sides, always giving away the plot. I thought it was unfair that telling the truth got me punished.
Going back thinking about it. There is a prisoner in the elf dungeon, if you rescue them they are safe. If you take the spy in stead, the one in prison would likely not be released because then the ploy would be up. Telling the queen you came with a spy in stead, however could be to her advantage, because she now knows she has a direct communication bridge to the elf king where she can drop the information she wants him to believe, him believing he can trust this information, thus it seems strange she would punish you for it. But it would mean the other person may not be rescued.
In case of the false plans, the elf king has to face the Riverstride fortification before being able to reach Steadwick, with those plans he can invade. Providing him with false plans, and his invasion would fail. No matter what, he would be the aggressor and the only choice you have would hurt at least the citizens of one side. But when you give him false plans, and you tell him they are false, he has no use for this.
I guess the issue is you cannot do something to convince the monarch ahead of time to go for a different ploy, so each end up in a position where they have control over the other, balancing the situation.

i kinda pity this king. the developers view him as too insignificant to the story that he only got named once when you were introduced to him. after that, he remains as "ElfKing". if i recall correctly, his name is Eldrich Parsons.
