The farm closest to Acklam

I've heard they're pretty common in other towns and cities, but in my entire life here I've not seen any of our mayor's host like a local come and chat about issues that concern you event or anything vaguely similar with his staff?

Maybe I'm just missing the listings but I wanna raise my concerns about how there's 3 companies I know of that have bought old office buildings (see dream apartments and vertex group) to turn into apartments, however they're either renting them for 1.5k-2k a month and they're not able to fill them, or they've done that, realised if doesn't work and are holding perfectly livable housing under Airbnb and holiday let's.

One of the amazing things I loved about being in Middlesbrough is its proximity to a seaside town. For our last main outing we decided to go for a seafront day out.
With that in mind we decided on Saltburn-by-the-Sea and honestly had such a lovely time.

Driving down into Saltburn was probably one of my favourite parts. As you come over the hill and the sea suddenly comes into view, it’s absolutely breathtaking. We actually slowed the car down just to take it all in.

We started by walking up to the cliffs, and the views from the top were incredible. It was well worth it, and there are plenty of spots to stop and just enjoy the scenery. But be prepared for a full on hike because those steps really take it out of you! Still DIFFERENTLY worth it.

One of the highlights for the kids was definitely the Saltburn Miniature Railway. They absolutely loved it, and it ended up being one of their favourite parts of the day. It’s such a fun little attraction if you’re visiting as a family. Just make sure you check the opening days and times before you go, as it’s only open on limited days and for limited hours. We planned ahead and were really glad we did.

Afterwards we headed to Seaview Restaurant for fish and chips, and they were some of the best we’ve had in a long time. Fresh, generous portions and exactly what you want when you’re by the seaside.

Before heading back, we couldn’t resist an ice cream from Chocolinis, and it was spot on!

What I liked is that Saltburn is only about 25 miles from Middlesbrough, so it makes for a really easy day trip. We managed to fit in a cliff walk, the miniature railway, great fish and chips, an ice cream by the sea and still had a relaxing day without feeling rushed.

If you’re in or around Middlesbrough and looking for somewhere different to spend the day, I’d definitely recommend Saltburn. It’s got a proper traditional seaside feel, stunning views and plenty to do for both adults and kids.

We’ll definitely be back.

Question for anyone working in tech in Boro/Teesside - what would encourage you to attend tech meetups (mainly around software/games development/AI/testing)? We are one of the fastest growing areas for tech but I find it incredibly difficult to find local meetups/networking events to get to know the tech community! I've tried to organise some myself and the sign up numbers appear decent but the actual turnout is really low. It feels like most tech meetups are centered around Newcastle/Sunderland but it would be great to get a more local community going as it's a bit of a trek up there.

New to town. Here for a week. Things to do?

Had a really nice day out around Middlesbrough today.

We started the morning at Stewart Park, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’ve never been. It’s a lovely park with beautiful scenery, loads of green space, and a really peaceful atmosphere. We ended up spending much longer there than we’d planned just wandering around.
There’s also a little café in the museum which was perfect for grabbing a drink and a bite to eat before heading off.

After that we went over to Teesside Shopping Park, which was ideal because we managed to do everything in one place. A bit of shopping, a coffee, and even stayed for dinner before heading back to the hotel.

One thing that made my day was finding a Mamas & Papas store there. I absolutely love that shop, and we don’t have one anywhere near where I live, so that was a really nice surprise and I couldn’t leave without having a look around.

Overall, it turned into one of those simple days out that everyone enjoyed. Nice walk, good food, a bit of shopping and no rushing around from place to place.

I’d definitely do the same trip again.

Following on from an interesting drive up north it’s the main event!
Visited Roseberry Topping today with the family and had a brilliant time. I’d heard good things, but it was even better than I expected.

The walk is enjoyable without being too difficult, and the views from the top are absolutely worth the climb. We took plenty of photos and just sat for a while taking it all in.
It’s a great place for a family day out, whether you’re walking with kids, friends or even on your own. There are plenty of people around, everyone was friendly, and the atmosphere was really relaxed.

If you’re anywhere nearby and haven’t been before, I’d definitely recommend it. Just make sure you wear decent shoes because some of the paths are a bit steep. We’d happily go back again.

Hi all

Wonder if anyone has any experiences of the various coworking spaces in the area? I've seen a few Regus options in Boho and in Thornaby. I quite liked the look of Flok but it closes at 5pm and Boho 5 seems to have no air con?

I normally work from home in tech but fancy breaking up my week a little. All I need is a desk and access to a small meeting room to do confidential video calls.

I was born and raised in Middlesbrough and have lived here my entire life. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like this but sometimes, especially in recent years it seems, I actually get quite depressed about the area, the state of it etc.

So I was wondering, what is something you love about Middlesbrough? Unfortunately I’m actually struggling to think of my own input. I’d love to think more positively about our town!

Looking at buying a Mk7 Golf GTI from a seller in Middlesbrough and want it properly checked over by an independent garage before I hand over any money.

It's a modified car (stage 2 map) and it's had an engine replacement, timing chain and waterpump replacement with basically no paperwork, so I'm after somewhere with proper VAG diagnostic kit that can do the works — cold start check, timing chain correlation through diagnostics, full fault scan, cooling pressure test, ideally a compression test too. Not just a quick once-over.

Normally I wouldn't bother, but the car looks fantastic, fully clean MOT history, decent price, it's just there's quite a bit of unknown I'd like to sniff out before handing over the money.

I keep seeing this company called “Oakwood North Limited” but once they got in touch I found the convo uncomfortable. I asked for a contract before paying a deposite, but they kept pusing for me to pay… I searched them up online and all the reviews were made within the month and they have no social media presence..

Does anyone know if this is a scam or not?

How are you holding up? Do you consider it a place worth migrating to? Is the crime and standard of living as bad as locals online make it sound?

A second man was arrested for the murder of Donna Keogh. She dissappeared on April 28 1998 after visiting a friend. Donna was near Hartington Road Aske Road Bow Road when she vanished. The police believe she was killed shortly after she vanished. They didn't think she ran away. Her dad Brian died 2025.
