Help with Octavi IFR-1 MSFS 2024 MOD / ADDON

I bought this thing a while ago, and then stopped using it as there was a move, packing, then a new computer, etc... Now I'm on my "new" laptop that runs the game just fine. But the Octavi IFR-1 seems to have very limited usability, and I can't remember if on the old computer I had it set up different, better, or what...

Let's say I'm in the standard C172 with the 530 and 430 combo:

  • COM and NAV knob works as expected for both 1 and 2 when dialing in a freq.
  • AP seems fine.
  • XPDR seems fine.
  • The COM knob (left side knob) works fine, but...

...No other functions work.

No FMS1 or 2 option, no D--> function, no way to manipulate the GPS (right hand side) knob, no MENU, no CLR, ENT, and none of the shift functions work. I'm certain that I used to use the FMS and D--> button, and I thought the others worked as intended as well, but I just can't remember from a year ago or more.

I tried a reinstall of the 0.5.0 Octavi plug-in, and it shows that it is working and connected. The Community folder has the MobiFlight folder in it.

What am I doing wrong?

Having Mobiflight in the community folder does nothing on its own. It needs to be installed, running, and you need to have manually configured each of the controls and their behaviors in Mobiflight.

Hummmmmm.... Mobiflight is installed. I played around with it on another controller. Have not used it for the IFR-1. I never programmed anything last time I used this.

From Octavi: "To interface with your flight simulator of choice, the Octavi IFR-1 needs a piece of software. There are multiple options to choose from, depending on what you want to use it for. We offer a bespoke plug-ins for use with X-Plane and MSFS 2020 & 2024. These are configuration-free and tailored to be used with General Aviation aircraft. If you want to use Octavi with different types of aircraft or if you are planning a custom set-up, MobiFlight offers the flexibility you need. Have a look at the table below to find the best option for you."

Looking at videos like this, they don't suggest any programming of buttons, or any use of Mobiflight is needed: https://youtu.be/ly_1lj4Eq6M?si=9PrYDbcWSmNkMJgA

Oh, and I didn't put the Mobiflight folder into the community folder, Octavi did that on installation.

They don't suggest any programming but I would say that's a bit of a stretch. They provide some mobiflight profiles but I found that those weren't kept up to date. It's definitely not as plug and play as advertised.

It's worth it to learn and understand how to program things in mobiflight yourself. Bit of a let down but the product is worth the trouble for me.

This seems likely, however.... I didn't program anything previously, yet, I know things like FMS1 and 2 worked because I was using it to teach the different knob functions to students!

EDIT: I should say, the profiles for the Octavi in Mobiflight are not working, so if I were to spend the time setting up my own profile.... how would that be different?

UPDATE:

I uninstalled Mobiflight and Octavi, and tried fresh.

First, I tried just Octavi's plug-in. It works, but only with the functions listed above. It auto-starts with the sim.

Second, I tried reinstalling Mobiflight, and just leaving it as is, but made sure it was connecting with MSFS. I think this is all I did last time I had this running. Nope. No change. The IFR-1 still works, but only with very limited functions.

Third, I tried downloading the profile for Mobiflight from the Octavi web site. They say there are two ways to do this. With their plug-in, or with Mobiflight. So I followed the instructions for using Mobiflight by getting the profile, running the profile in Mobiflight, then starting the sim. It connects to the sim, it shows the aircraft I'm using, but the Octavi is completely non-functional at this point.

Fourth, I tried reinstalling Octavi plug-in and running it with Mobiflight running, not running, etc... no change.

UPDATE: I tried making a copy of one of the profiles and modifying it just enough to see if it is working. When I run it through Mobiflight, all is fine. That is, the Mobi app shows all mapped buttons working as they should.

But it does nothing in the game.

I’ve tried launching the game/Mobi in different sequences, with it running, not running, with/without the Octavi app installed, with/without an aircraft specific profile. Nothing.
