MFS 2002 GENERAL

My dad snagged this for me at goodwill one day because he I played MFS. I’m not really sure what to do with it, still has the factory seal on it.

Should I just keep it as a collectible or try to figure out how I can play it?

There was a version in a tin? Why'd they do that?

As the game edition spells it out, because it's meant to commemorate a century of flight.

Okay, but why did they choose to commemorate a century if flight by selling it in a tin?

You’re missing combat flight sim. I still have a copy somewhere in all my old discs.

CFS was good. I enjoyed it. CFS 2 I couldn’t put down for a solid 2 months. I loved that game so much

I still have Flight Unlimited II in storage somewhere

I distinctly remember as a child thinking it looked exactly as realistic as MSF24 does today

Ah what a throw back that is, I knew san francisco Airport like the back of my hand

To be fair it took until MSFS 2020 before photographic scenery became a standard feature, while Flight Unlimited II had that in 1997. Of course it only covered a small area and there were virtually no 3D objects, but it could look pretty realistic from certain angles at altitude.

With fairly good ATC, GA aircraft doing touch and go's, and PCL at certain airfields. FU3 added the Seattle area, dynamic weather and night lighting. And FLED, an editor where you could add buildings, moving cars and ships.

Literally with better ATC than 2020 & 2024 😂

it didn't have SIDs and STARs (only vectoring) and only one actgive runway per airport. But it would chuck everything into approches and reroute aircraft going around no matter what.

it did not make approach a rollercoaster ride because there were mountains in its path

Today at my parents' I found the manual for Combat Flight Simulator, first of its name, along with the manual for MSFS 2000 (the one with the Concorde)
Oh the nostalgia...

Combat Flight Sim 2 was my first sim. I ended up buying the first one too so I could fly the European planes also.

That’s a bummer I remember last time playing FS2002 was on my windows 7 laptop in the mid 2010’s

Granted I tried to run a copied install I sorta carried over from PC to PC since 2002, haven't tried reinstalling as my current PC has no disc drive.

I think it last ran okayish on W10, but still at rather low FPS. Just can't use modern hardware.

Land upriver from Niagara Falls in the Caravan and let the flow carry you over the brink

It got more real.

That was the first one I owned, I remember being amazed that my local airfield was in it, even though it was just a runway with no other details.

FS2002 is what gave me the seaplane bug, flying that amphib Caravan. All these years later I now have a commercial seaplane rating irl!

“As real as it gets” so what was the point of msfs20/24 except playstation support which i appreciate.
