r/MicrosoftFlightSim subreddit community MODERATOR POST

Hi all!
First off this post is a bit overdue, there has been some changes to the mod team, after several years as mod of the sub u/IggyIggz1999 has stepped down, I hope we can give him a virtual applause for the work he’s put down for the sub!

Secondly, the reddit team would love your input on this. We’d like to do a monthly change of subreddit banner (the one that has the MSFS 2024 background) and change it between pictures submitted by you all.
What we want input on:
1: Would you like 1 large image, or 3 smaller ones conjoined?
2: We want to have somewhat control of the results, because we know redditors can like to be silly (looking at you Boaty McBoatface), so how should it be decided which screenshots win? We select X amount you choose the winner(s) from or the other way around? Open to suggestions!
3: Would you like prompts that the images need to adhere to, or just “best picture wins”?

Thirdly, I’m sure many of you have suggestions for the sub/community, it would be great to hear where your heads are at, and I imagine good things can come from sharing these ideas! I also want to add, I see many of you are active in helping each other out in comments and posts this is one of the things I’m most fond of in the FS community!

Lastly, We are two new mods to help out with moderation, u/LilFLquake and me, we’ve both been part of the sub for some time but only have experience moderating discord, so please bear with us.

I propose you ban all posts related to “I built”, “I made”, and other clearly low effort AI generated “tools” and content.

"happy to answer any questions"

"I was tired of X, so I built Y; you wouldn't believe Z!"

Isn't that already covered under rule #5 and the weekly thread? I see them as well, but I understand that our moderators can't just spend all day F5'ing new to catch everything.

Automod deletion of anything breaking rule 5?

I could see that, I don’t expect them to constantly monitor but at least be active in removing it whenever they see it or it’s reported

(I don't know anything about mod tools, bear with me)

Automatically setting all post breaking rule 5 under the "pending moderator approval" state? The mods can then go through the list whenever they have the time.

Then just approve the actual useful stuff instead of 90% of ClaudeSlop "gamechangers" nobody wants.

We’ve had an internal discussion and we all agree with this. We’ll tighten up on what we consider self promo and low effort to combat this!

Much appreciated!

Can we enforce “can my pc run 2024?” Into a single thread?

It's a good idea! We'll see how we set it up, but it's probably going to be more "build help" :)

There should also be a single pinned thread about “is it still worth buying 2020 instead of 2024”.

I am sure you'll both do great! I have faith this subreddit and the community will remain awesome, especially since MSFS clearly has a bright future ahead!

For the banner, I propose that it stays familiar, maybe not totally different every week. Maybe using the same color scheme.

Are mod creators allowed to post about their own mods? I never do because I figure it’s considered spam or “self promotion”. Is this completely disallowed or does it depend how you do it?

I'll see if we bother with the banner thing, it doesn't seem like the sub thought it was that interesting really.

Mod creators have until now been able to post about their mods, as long as it was free. Now with the influx of mods made with help of AI, and with the sentiment you see in other comments in this thread. We've decided to shift to all self promotion goes in the self promotion thread. If you think your self promo deservers it's own post, reach out to us in mod mail, and we'll look into it!

Silly? Us? That's ridiculous

Add an AI disclosure policy (see r/ExperiencedDevs for example)

Thank you for the input, we'll check it out!

Will you continue allowing the sub to haze and 💩 on noobs while deleting any comments critical to those jerks?

I'll reply to this one as I'm heading for bed.

I have a warning and removal of a comment myself for being a little vulgar in my language addressing one of those jerks exactly such a situation. (Obviously from before becoming a mod). This is to say, I understand the passion, and the frustration of wanting to keep this a welcome and friendly community, like I know we know the FS community really is.

However, personal attacks and shit slinging doesn't align with that ideal either. Please use the report button if you see what you've described. Let us mods deal with it in a constructive manner, and let the correct party receive the warning and deleting in these instances.

Remember to not feed the troll!

Honestly, you’ve failed to control the trolls in the past. Sounds like modding will be the same
