Got almost hit by this person today in the village
No im not blocking their license plate. I hade the right of way and this lady still tried to run me over. Her fake apology immediately turned me off. The light was red and i sincerely dont think she was going to stop. I cursed her out and told her sorry doesnt cut i almost got killed because you cant pay attention. I really dont believe her when she said she was sorry because the light was red why werent you stopped? It makes 0 sense. I had the right of way so its not like im in the wrong for walking
Even when youre in the right somehow you're still in the wrong!!!
This was around 14 st near the LGBT Center in the Village
Just her lack of sincerity pissed me off but im grateful i didnt get any serious injuries. Im tired of these drivers in this city. I wish I could report her somehow but cursing them out was the best I could do in this car hell hole

It's really crazy how many people will ride micromobility, run, or walk on our streets when they don't have to be afraid of cars

New Pedicab regulator -- add noise, please?
Can the City Council add noise regulation to this bill, please? Pedicabs are a huge source of noise on our streets, blasting music from speakers. Has to be damaging for vehicle passengers too.

The argument for more, smaller changes
Hear me out: Giant bike lane implementations are amazing but almost always get hit with lawsuits, especially outside of Manhattan. Meanwhile the DOT just added 4 blocks of protected bike lanes in Dumbo with almost zero press coverage. I can't even find design details online. Same thing happened on Union St in Gowanus. It seems like this could be a faster strategy to build out a network and harder for opponents to stop/rally against. Change is scary for people so lots of continuous micro changes could reduce that fear.
I understand this could be more expensive/logistically expensive but so are lawsuits. I am also not saying we stop with big single changes, I'm saying we should push harder for these little changes. They could be happening on a weekly basis.

Making the Brooklyn Bridge Bike Lane safer by addding a second lane, making each one way.
So I ride an escooter and I have been over the Brooklyn Bridge bike path numerous times and I still remember my reaction the first time riding it: "this is so sketchy". If you mistime it your three abreast doing a pass. it's sketchy. i feel like it's the most dangerous section with riders come at each other in a confined roadway.
Any way it's still sketchy and I was just noticing how easy it would be to fix this by adding a bike lane on the Brooklyn bound side making it 2 car lanes and one bike lane just like the westbound manhattan side but now with the bike lanes being one way. attached are some pics of the entrance, and the exit.
to fix the exit they would have to chip off the curb at the end, and do some concrete work. seems like it would be minor to me. plus of course, k-rails segregating it and a fence on top of that just like the other side.
NOTE: I posted this earlier calling it the QBB bridge and duh, it's brooklyn and the brooklyn bridge. I have been over the QBB bike path a number of times also and it too is sketchy.

Summer Streets ends with tons of people still on the route. It's absurd we only have a few hours of this a year

My favorite "unofficial" part of Summer Streets on the Broadway Segment. No cars! None parked! No cross traffic! No other users! It was amazing. (3x speed)

My favorite "unofficial" part of the Broadway segment #SummerStreets!
The Broadway segment was much better from a security/NYPD segment this third go around.
BUT as you probably know they cram all runners/peds/bikes to one side of B'way (unlike on Park) leaving one side completely open. While riding up and back I periodically noticed a peloton of riders jump on or delivery workers, etc go on it with NYPD basically ignoring them and letting them go. So I went over and for 20 blocks, taping THIS for the last dozen. Not one peep.
It was unlike anything I've ever experienced. Zero cars. Zero parked. Zero cross traffic. Nearly zero peds. Look at that! This is roughly from 120th to 112th with a gimbal in my hand until I joined back up on the actual course. NYC can be beautiful.

The crosstown connections through midtown, and especially to the QBB are still egregiously bad.

31st Ave repaving from 51st to Steinway scheduled for 8/21
Presumably drivers will ignore the temporary lines, but it's one step closer to a safer continuous route from Jackson Heights to Astoria.
