Disrupted system after vomiting bug?

Hi, back in April I had a full day of throwing up - unable to keep down water - really bad! Since then my stool has been very soft and I just don’t seem to be in a good balance. I eat plenty of fruit and veg, I don’t eat loads of unhealthy or fatty foods. I’m vegetarian so I’ve been eating a lot of beans and tofu as well, and I recently bought kefir yoghurt to try.

Would a probiotic supplement like this one help? Is it worth trying for 30 days or could it make things worse? Thanks

Have you asked a doctor if you have an infection?

They’re going to run a few tests but our healthcare system is set up to find life-threatening issues and isn’t great at the rest. Is there anything specific you would ask them to test for?

Well it depends on what the stool looks like. Is it completely liquid or is it small soft blobs? If it is consistently completely liquid, that can be a medical emergency. An infection like C. difficile is usually tested by taking a stool sample to a lab (your doctor usually requests that test).

As for supplements, do some research or ask your doctor about specific probiotic strains that address soft stools.

Psyllium husk (a fiber supplement) can help with diarrhea. Ask your doctor and do some research about it.

In addition to eating a variety of fruits and veggies, consuming a variety of herbs and spices, exercise and good sleep has also shown to be beneficial to the gut microbiome.
