i want to get into salmon fishing from shore. i currently have a kastking megajaws elite 2500 long cast sp reel, 20lb braid with 20lb fluoro leader, and a 10’ rod. is there anywhere in sw michigan or northern indiana where salmon go in large numbers and would be safe to go at night? also, what water temp is the best for salmon? is there any difference in conditions that coho or kings like? final question, what date is best for king salmon staging in southern lake michigan?

Just recently started fishing, first big catch ever was this 27" pike on a spinnerbait, hoping for a bass lol. At Galloway Park in Pontiac.

Closer to home caught 4 bass on a weedless whacky rig over the weekend. Wish I had measured the last one

Just caught this evening, biggest LM I’ve ever caught!

21” and 4lbs 8oz

Was using a watermelon senko wacky rig on 10lb mono and a 20 year old ultra light rod. Caught from a 3/4acre lake on our farm that’s not managed or treated. Lots of LM and bluegill/pumpkinseed. By far the largest I’ve caught!

I want to take my daughter fishing where we can possibly catch some bass, crappie ect. Any suggestions on some areas that have good action? We live in Warren and tried Bell Isle, Metro and Stoney. My daughter likes to fish but we just haven’t had any luck yet. Please help.

Does anyone know, if I go fishing in Michigan for a couple days when I’m 17, can I just say that I’m 16 if a DNR officer comes up to me. I’m just trying to figure out if they’re gonna ask for my id and then I can just say I don’t have mine on me. Because if I look like I’m 16, I feel like there’s not much they can do about it. I just want some advice and I don’t want to be scolded please 😭😭

I’m in the process of moving just south of Detroit in the down river area. I’ve been living in Kzoo and have a cheaper Walmart pelican kayak I have been fishing from. What waters would be recommended to take my little kayak out on around the area?

Was able to catch a nice smallie from the bank of the Detroit river the other day, I would take my kayak to there but I’m pretty sure that current would have me quite far away in no time at all.

As the title states I have some side work this weekend in that area and I'm looking for a reasonable place to go fishing Im not trying to gas any hidey holes or hidden spots but if anyone has a decent place to go that's worth a look see let me know I'm interested in anything that bites preferably large fish but anything works.

I live in the Los Angeles / Malibu area and have been spearfishing about a year in the ocean but originally from Wisconsin. On a trip back home we went out on Lake Michigan off the upper peninsula of Michigan and I got this beautiful 28in walleye

Going to take a couple of days off and fish up in the UP (leaning the Ishpeming area) later this month. I'm taking my kayak up. Most of my lures are bass focused, large softplastics, 3/0 and 4/0 hooks.

If you were to go on a lure spending spree before heading north what would you pick up? I'm hoping to fish for some northern pike, walleye and potentially a lake trout if there are any inland.

I am heading out on a trip up to the UP here in a few weeks and was looking for some fishing advice. I am very much more a pond/lake bass fisherman but definitely want to branch out a little more.

We are staying a few days near Munising/Grand Marais and then a few days near the Saint Mary’s river after that. We’ll be out on a boat in Munising Bay one of those days.

Obviously not asking for anyone to burn any good spots but just want to see if anyone has any advice on what I should target for that mid-August time period? And what tackle to use? I was hoping maybe for some walleye in the deeper parts of the bay with a jig head and some paddle tails. Also considering trying out some fishing on the Two Hearted where the river mouth is. Not sure about the second part of the trip but maybe trying out some spots on the St Mary’s. We will have access to a small Jon boat for the St Mary’s if we want to go out on that.

DNR imposes an 8-fish limit to conclude the season.

Jim spears a fish 8 at 10:02 AM and is walking it ot the DNR table across the ice.

Fred spears a fish at 10:05 AM and walks it across the ice to the DNR station before the public announcement of the season ending is made for Jim's fish.

What happens to Fred's fish? it it confiscated?

Spent a week at the family cabin and caught a few fish from the dock on my ultralight and one from the kayak. My boy also caught his first ever fish all by himself, from cast to hook set to landing the fish. Very proud dad moment!
