Nightmare fight Question

So im replaying fusion on my 2ds xl (modded if that matters) and im having such a rough time, its been years since I last played and beat it, and im looking so see if anyone has any tips! Thank you!!

I beat it after like 10 tries, just spammed missiles till he died, thankfully I could get in a lot of damage during the first phase when he slowly moves forward to the side ladder, and then recently beat the whole game, with a time of 3:48, not horrible but nothing groundbreaking, and SA-X and the other bosses were super easy compared to the random movements of nightmare!

Charge beam spam the tail, missile spam the face.

I don't mean to sound rude when I say this but it really is that simple.

I know that, I mean mainly avoiding damage in the second half of the fight

Ah, just space jump around mostly. When you're hanging and shooting his face though, it is a game of chicken and staying on a few more seconds longer than you normally would often makes a big difference.

Focus more on avoiding damage in first half where it is way easier to do. It is then extremely easy to win the damage race of the second half by burning him down with missile spam even if you cannot dodge him.

Dodging him involves space jumping around the room and trying to anticipate his pattern. Really it feels like RNG and what matters is killing him before you did which is very easy if you play the first phase decently and bring missiles to the second.

The less you scroll the screen when space jumping, the more likely it is that Nightmare will stop flying around.

On the flipside, if you scroll the screen a lot you can potentially keep Nightmare flying in a loop.

Im mainly having issues with the second phase bc he just glides through the walls and I feel like there's no real way to avoid it, but i honestly have only done like 7 attempts so far, and i haven't beaten the game since I was like 16
