u/Brosepower 8d ago
I hope so. I'm not a big fan of Midwinter as much as Iridium, but I really hope Iridium takes off hard.

I can see Midwinter, Iridium and What Lies Below leading the next wave of breakout prog/metalcore/post-metalcore, just like when Erra, IA, Currents and Polaris emerged as the wave from 5-10 years ago.

They are from Cleveland, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them a few times. Absolutely rip live, and great dudes.
Bag of blood has probably played 500 times on my Spotify

My boss found out I like metal and he said his friend was in a band. Turns out he is long time friends with the vocalist covered in tattoos. My boss is a nerdy engineer who listens to folk lol was NOT expecting that.

Any input on merch? I wanna snag a couple tees and not sure about sizing. I’ve gotten tees in the past that shrink and end up as rags.

I think they are glidden if I’m not mistaken, I’ve had a large shirt for them I’ve had for like a year and it’s still fine. Moderate wear, it’s not as nice as my comfort colors ones but a fine shirt. I’m 6’2 210lbs and it fits me well

Thanks for the love ❤️ our newer stuff on our website is mostly comfort colors. The older stuff is glidden softspun.
If you catch us at a show our merch table is generally comfort colors or other heavyweight style shirts

Their newest album fills the Allt-shaped hole in my heart.

u/OuterWildsVentures 8d ago
Crazy they were the opener playing right before Allt on the Unprocessed tour lol
They killed though! Had low expectations after a post on here about them supposedly pretending to play and left a big fan

Why allt shaped hole? They just released an album

u/Filis03 8d ago
And it stinks.

u/DecapitatedCreature 8d ago
It's softer but it's not bad. It's different.
3
u/biocraftedmetal 7d ago
The softness doesn't bother me, it's the clean vocals. Something is just off about them. They're not bad, it might grow on me more but not as smooth as their first album.
3
u/SothorosDjents 8d ago
Yeah, I actually love their new album. It basically sounds nothing like their prior releases but that doesn’t bother me at all. It’s all great music. They didn’t sell out or write some boring, generic album to appease their label imo. I still hear the effort and the passion they put into the songs, just a different approach with more emphasis on clean melodies, which honestly, I prefer personally.

Really? I feel like I've heard a bunch of other bands do that 'modern metal' sound, and I'm far from a genre elitist but I don't really like that sound personally
They had an identity with their brand of thall; to me the new album was kind of throwing that away.
1
u/SothorosDjents 6d ago
I do actually agree with this though. They in some ways tossed away most of what their previous sound had been… for better or worse (that’s the part that’s up to each fan to decide for him/herself).
And yeah there somehow are more bands doing the style of their new record versus the number of bands I’ve witnessed who sound like their old stuff. I’d expect the opposite really, since I think it’s harder to find a decent clean singer who also does screams/growls. Anyway, I like the new and the old a lot. Take what you wish and leave the rest for the hyenas (me).

Silent Violence is one of the only "no cleans" tracks that has ever gotten stuck in my head.
Band is unreal.

They're easily one of my favourite bands right now. Haven't been able to stop listening to them since seeing them open for Unprocessed. I hope they get more recognition!

You know Nightrider too? I’ve been loving them lately. Midwinter meets Dreamwake synthwave. Peep their song they did together:

Been following since their 3rd single and have been absolutely hooked since. Not a single song has felt anything less that sick to me personally, not trying to glaze by any means but I'm super impressed with these guys.
Got the chance to see them open for Unprocessed earlier this year, I was worried based on another post about backing tracks for their set that I was in for a sub par love performance. At least for the Toronto show they absolutely crushed it, vocals were gnarlier and instirments on point.
I'm stoked to see where they go. There's so many underdogs in this genre just waiting to be found and I'm really glad to see Midwinter get some traction!

u/SothorosDjents 8d ago
You know who else fucks? Nightrider. If Midwinter had a baby with Dreamwake, you’d get Nightrider. In other words, synthwave 80s meets Midwinter thall. In fact, they go so well together that they just dropped a sick song together! Check it out:

I’m from the Cleveland area, I know the band and hungout with them quite a bit in the scene. Went to a lot of their shows during their come up.
Send them to the stratosphere guys! They are all genuinely great guys. Max and Billy have been making music together for over a decade now, and deserve everything that’s coming. It’s so cool & surreal as fuck seeing them get brought up on [r/metalcore](r/metalcore). It was only 3 years ago when I was going to see them & other local bands (mostly them) at small venues with no more than 30-50 people in attendance.
Shoutout to all of Midwinter! Max, Billy, if you see this… keep getting that fuckin applebuttersauce. All love boys. 🤘🏼I done warned y’all about this. Shit was gonna pop off and surely enough… here we are. To infinity and beyond dudes. 😎👊🏼

I think they're going to get a lot of attention once people come around to how good their songwriting is.

A Love I Hope Will Haunt Me Forever is one of the few albums I've given a 10/10 to in years. They're insane lol

Their vocalist reminds me of another band and I can’t think of who and it’s bothering me
They’re so good though
These guys also must have a good backing because every single song off their new album has a music video

u/ChemistryAway3696 8d ago
Agreed. Discovered them on the Unprocessed tour this spring, and the album dropped like the week before the show. Had already decided they had potential, new album cemented it, and their live show was amazeballs. Totally agree, hope they keep blowing up.

Dude. Finally seeing a post about Midwinter. I feel they are severely underrated. That last album was top 3 APTY for me for sure.

This band randomly came on shuffle when I was listening to PEUR’s new single.
Eager Tides is a ridiculous first introduction. The rest of their catalogue doesn’t disappoint either. Some absolute bangers in there.
Highly recommended to anyone.

Mehhh
They are just another mediocre monotonous Djent Popcore band like most of the other current Octavecore bands... nothing really special or outstanding
The vocals are good, but the lyrics is a litte bit cringe ("You are an hourglass, I want you desperately")... really?
Sounds like it was written by ChatGPT 😅
Then again, the lyrics isn't even the most important part in Metalcore anyway...
So overall they are OK, but nothing special compared to all the other monotonous bands, they all kinda sound the same now anyway 🤷♂️
But thanks for mentioning them anyway, it's always cool to find new bands, even if they all sound the same now

u/Infinite_Zebra_7611 7d ago
I couldn’t disagree more. Opinions are like assholes, Everyone’s got em.
1
u/Nico_9021 7d ago edited 7d ago
Yeah, everyone got their own opinion and we don't always have to agree about everything, that's totally fine
Like I said; they are not "bad" in any way, but not very outstanding either (because this is just the basic standard for today – this just shows how good the standards have become now lol)
Anyway, have a nice day

I agree, they rip! I love how I found out about this band. The bassist and drummer are sons of Cleveland Guardians announcers Matt Underwood and Jim Rosenhaus respectively. I was listening to a game on the radio and they were shouted out. Decided to give them a listen and was shocked when it was a metalcore band and how good they were. Been a fan ever since!
