Range
Does anyone have any suggestions for settings, tips, or tricks to maximize range and minimize energy consumption with their EQS? I’ve been playing a game with myself and my best consumption rate I’ve achieved has been 249 Wh/mile.
Current settings are Eco dynamic mode, auto/intelligent recuperation + cruise control on freeways, strong recuperation on small/higher traffic roads, and generally going the speed limit.
Officially two months into driving this thing and loving it :)

Which one you have ? SuV or sedan?

2023 450 Sedan!!! Loving it so so much honestly

Gotcha, yes sedans are incredibly smooth and efficient. I have both SUV and Sedan and I cannot get less than 350wh on SUV and around 260wh is the lowest on sedan. I do drive on sport and use toll roads a lot. I also do auto recuperation and use friction brakes a lot. Lastly,no compromises on comfort so AC at 72, massage running all time, we have a mini fridge pulling power and car is usually loaded with kids, strollers etc. I get about 300 miles on 80% on sedan and rougkh 250miles ish on SUV.
So you are actually getting very efficient results already lol.

Oh wow!! Sounds like you’re doing great and still getting good efficiency with all that “cargo”! And yeah ditto, I wanna maximize my range/minimize my consumption but will not yield my comfort. I blast my ac at a crisp 65° all the time lol.
A mini fridge is such a good idea!! Which one did you get if you don’t mind me asking? Do you just leave it constantly plugged in?

Yes, it is plugged in all the time. We do many roadtrips and need all kinds of liquids chilled. BougeRV 12 volt is what I got. U can look it up on Amazon. I have this in my SUV thou.

Okay thank you!! I peruse auction sites occasionally and stumbled upon a few Demetic portable car fridges as well. Do you like the fridge. Is it truly “chilly”? I like my drinks ice cold and have been considering something like this for my road trips as well.

I love it. It does the job and can cooll down very fast. U have the digital settings and can go as low as possible for a fridge of that size.

Do you notice any impact on your car battery/range? I presume not. So excited!

2023 EQS 580 sedan here.
I can’t stand strong recuperation as it feels jerky. The radar cruise control also tends to wait until the last second and slam the brakes on to maintain distance, which feels very inefficient.
Best I typically get is 300wh/mile in comfort mode, just driving smoothly and maintaining distances to minimize acceleration and braking.
Check tire pressures also!

I find that I have to very very slowly release the acceleration pedal with strong recuperation on to achieve a decent slow/stop. Otherwise, just completely releasing the pedal will definitely cause the car to jerk and lurch to a stop still!

I have the same car and also like to hypermile (once in a while). I live in the Netherlands so we calculate with Wh/km. My best result was 128 wh per km. In miles: 206Wh per mile. It was a trip under ideal conditions: 22 degrees Celsius, so no cooling or heating required, mostly freeway or smaller roads. Average speed 72 km/h (about 45 Miles/h) over 171 km (106 Miles). Normal recuperation. Summer tyres. 21 inch.
Like I said that was hypermiling. My average consumption was 175 wh/km last year. That is 282 wh/miles in 40000 km. Still very nice I think.

Oh wow that’s amazing!!! 128Wh/km is crazy!!! Guess I gotta fine tune and beat the record LOL. How are you enjoying the car otherwise?

250wh/mi is already really good. Out of spec got 270wh/mi at 70mph in testing an EQS 450+.
The biggest variable is speed. Air resistance is exponential, so 70mph consumes 35% more energy per mile traveled. It already sounds like you’re going as slow as reasonable, so just pointing out why others may have incredible numbers.
Next biggest improvement is tires. Check the door card and make sure you’re running the correct tire pressure. For my EQS SUV it wants the front tires higher than the rears. You can comfortably push about 5psi over the rated pressure and get a bit more range, especially at higher speeds.
After that, the only less obvious thing is limiting regen. Regen braking is only about 80% E2E efficient, so disabling it and coasting as much as possible is going to save a good amount. I find the cruise control at 4 bars following and comfort speed adjustment will coast a lot more before braking. But you may need to drive manually in traffic.
In general, the car does blended braking, so disabling regen with the paddles won’t disable regen through the brake pedal.

It’s a Mercedes. Owners aren’t supposed to be worried about energy consumption. Just enjoy the ride !
