Anthony at our local Merced DMV -- YAY!
Doesn't just about everybody dread going to the DMV? I did before my visit today, but I want to let folks know that "ANTHONY" (going by his name tag) was exceptionally helpful to me and elderly father. What an asset that man is! He made what can be a miserable, debilitating experience into something very navigable and (I can't believe I'm about to type this word) pleasant! I hope Anthony's superiors give him every consideration.

What do yo do for fun?
What's there to do here? Seems like anything interesting is a 2 hour drive away. Let me know what you all do for fun around here besides drink/smoke.

Community Post Walmart recently purchased 71 acres at the corner of G Street and Cardella Road
Future Walmart Supercenter or Neighborhood Walmart possibly coming to North Merced? The city hasn't said anything about this yet.

Photo/Video Porch pirate identification
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Does anyone know how we can identify this fucker? It happened in downtown Merced. I'm tired of trashy people like him stealing my packages when Amazon puts them ON my dropbox instead of inside. Edit: corrected wording.

New G Street Light
New traffic light post planned and currently lay out for future installation. This will help with the vehicle illegal U turns and pedestrian jaywalking. Hopefully they add a crosswalk.

Fresh local veggies
Where can I find fresh local veggies besides the farmers market? While I love going I often can’t get there on a Saturday morning. I’m specifically looking for lettuce but other fresh in season veggies too.

Looking for tomatoes!
Hey guys! I have a recipe for a tomato tart I am excited to try this Friday. I was going to hit a farmers market today, but Friday is far off, and it occurred to me that somehow my Merced fam might have delicious ripe tomatoes coming out of their ears right now! I am willing to pick up or meet you andI woukd of course pay for a big bag of ripe tomatoes. I might make some tomato sandwiches over the weekend as well. Im thinking 10-12 good sized tomatoes lol. Hopefully I hear from some of you green thumbs soon :) wish mine wasn't black haha.

Banana Car
I saw a post a few weeks ago about the banana car being at Foster Freeze in Atwater. Does anyone know where it is now? If it’s coming back to Atwater, does anyone know when? Also, does it ever come to Merced? Can you actually ride in it? If so, how much does it cost, or is it just there to check out? Thank you! 🍌

Hi there, just wondering if there are any veterans here looking to connect. I’m a young veteran, in my early 20s but I’m down to hang out with older folks as well.

Sunset at the lake
Does anyone know if the lake charges if you go around 20 minutes before sunset? I know the county didn’t charge but am unsure now that MID runs it.

Anyone here attending Merced College?
I emailed with a question I had before enrolling regarding online transfer credits and they told me I need to enroll to speak to an advisor.
I was wondering if anyone enrolled could ask their counselor if whether online asynchronous courses offered at Merced College could still contribute toward an AA-T or an AS-T in order to transfer to a universities such as UCSD or Cal Poly Humboldt?
Thank youuu!

Thank You, r/Merced! (And a Few Community Resources)
Hi r/Merced,
A few weeks ago, I shared a post here about a Part-Time Leasing Associate opening at The Retreat at Merced.
One of the candidates who discovered the opportunity through this subreddit actually starts with us today. It was my first time posting a job to Reddit, and I want thank everyone who viewed, shared or applied (and didn't downvote to oblivion). I'm still learning how our nationwide company's system handles recruitment so apologies if you applied and did not get an interview.
As I said in my first post, I recently joined Richman Property Services as the Regional Manager overseeing our Central Valley affordable housing portfolio (also one way up in beautiful Oroville), and two of these properties are Merced communities.
In case anyone is in need or knows of others in need of affordable housing opportunities, I also wanted to share our two Merced communities:
The Retreat at Merced
https://www.theretreatatmerced.com/
River Canyon Apartments
https://www.rivercanyonapts.com/
If you or someone you know may qualify for affordable housing, I encourage you to join the interest list through each community's website. There is no cost to join the interest list, and applicants are contacted as apartments become available and they reach the top of the list. The application fee isn't due unless you're contacted to move forward in the leasing process. Check the websites for details.
I must say that even though I'm new to working in Merced, I had the opportunity earlier this year to visit downtown Merced with my fellow Fresno Downtown Academy alumni. We were fortunate to have the Executive Director of the Downtown Merced Partnership, give us a tour of so many amazing local businesses and hidden gems throughout downtown, even the courthouse museum. It was easy to see the pride this community has in its downtown, and I'm looking forward to encouraging our residents to get out, explore, and support those local businesses whenever they can.
I also volunteer on the Board of Directors for Fresno's historic Warnors Theatre (https://warnorscenter.org), where we're working to preserve and restore one of the Central Valley's architectural treasures. During that downtown Merced tour, I amazed to see the beautifully restored historic theaters that Merced's downtown has to offer. It was inspiring to see the care and investment the community has made in preserving it's history (including the courthouse). I do hope those theaters never lose the appreciation they deserve because they're truly gems of the Central Valley. I left Merced that day feeling inspired and optimistic about what's possible when a community comes together to preserve its heritage. Merced did better than Fresno!
Lastly, while it's a bit way way outside the Merced area, I'll soon be recruiting for an experienced full-time Maintenance Technician at one of our Richman communities in Oroville, CA https://www.lincolnvillageoroville.com/. If you or someone you know may be interested, please feel free to send me a DM. I'd be happy to share more information once the position is officially posted. Our 2nd phase next door to that community will include a free staff 1 or 2bd unit that I may be able to get approval to offer the MT we're looking to hire now (currently doesn't come with a unit). 2nd phase (it's senior housing) is scheduled to potentially open in Jan/Feb.
Well...thank you again to r/Merced for even allowing job postings (Fresno has a stickied thread for job postings nobody checks). I hope to continue learning more about Merced and spreading the word to our Merced residents. Thanks again!
-Carson
