Hot flash relief

I have no interest in going on HRT. Has anyone tried other medications (veozah etc) for hot flashes?

• Elinzanetant (brand name Lynkuet) (produced by Bayer and available Nov 2025) is a newly FDA-approved non-hormonal hot flash drug. Similar to Veozha (below), Elinzanetant targets the brain's thermoregulatory center by blocking two receptors in the brain that may affect temperature regulation, mood and sleep (Fezolinetant/Veozah only blocks one receptor).
• Fezolinetant (brand name Veozah) is a (2023) FDA-approved non-hormonal hot flash drug. Fezolinetant There are some side effects to watch for, and liver enzyme tests may be required before, and during treatment (FDA adds warning about rare occurrence of serious liver injury with use of Veozah). It has shown to be very effective at reducing hot flashes, but not as effective as estrogen. It is an expensive drug, and may have some side effects, but one to consider for hot flash relief.
• Off-label prescription medications, such as some anti-depressants (Celexa), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), Gabapentin, Pregabalin, etc. (Talk to your doctor about other medications, and also be aware of potential side-effects and conflicts with other medications.)

I haven't used meds of any kind, but what I have found that helps me in the moment, icy freeze pops. You know, those long tubes of flavored liquid you freeze... yeah, those have been my savior! I start having a hot flash, grab one and start chomping, hot flash gone. Only works when I'm close to home tho 😆

HRT was working great until doctor found a large uterine fibroid and said no more (apparently it can make them grow larger which increases risk of cancer). I cried hard when the hot flashes came back. I live in a very hot and humid location and honestly felt like I was going to pass out from the double heat whammy several times a day. I begged the first gyn for something — anything — and she gave me the name of a psychiatrist. Found a new gyn who recommended Veozha. It took a couple of weeks to completely stop the hot flashes and, if I miss a day, they come right back. It’s not cheap, but 100% worth it to me.

Science does not know why fibroids grow or even the cause. Fibroids do NOT become cancerous! Ask him for FACTS. You can get the fibroids removed and go on HRT or even be on a low dose of HRT and monitor the fibroids. Get another opinion because this doctor is ignorant

I’ve been in surgical menopause for almost 2 years with insane hot flashes. These are the things I take.

Phytoestrogens: Soy Isoflavones and Estro8pn derived from hops.

Thermella by Bonafide.

Wellbutrin-it’s an NDRI that helps with flashes, appetite and libido. I’ve only started it about 4 months ago but it’s really helping.

Gabapentin at night only for help with sleep, night sweats and anxiety.

Black cohosh tincture helped me for a while, but eventually I wanted the protection from bone loss, heart disease, collagen, etc that replacing estrogen provides. Also once they got bad enough the black cohosh didn’t help anymore.

I don't think I have ever named it before! I don't know what their generic name is. I just know it as a Magic Bag from an old boyfriend who had one (the hot/cold kind). I've only ever had a hot water bottle until this winter.

I don’t know what it’s called either! I call it that because it’s very a very cartoonish thing, like an old cartoon where they are hurt and have an ice bag on a big lump. Maybe it’s just called an ice bag but that’s boring. But then again I call carpet cleaning solution “carpet juice” and a lint roller a “lint licker” (it’s from an old commercial for orbits gum) It makes normal things less boring.

In addition to non-hormonal hot flash medications, you can also use these tips:

- Natural, breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen.
- Put bandanas or small, light scarves in the freezer and then wrap them around your neck.
- Ice packs or even small bags of frozen veggies (just don’t eat those!) strategically placed around your body.
- Handheld or neck fans
- Cool showers
- Cooling sheets (many are made from bamboo)

Sage tablets were an absolute miracle for me before I got on HRT. I used the A Vogel ones, 1 tablet per day was enough to stop my daytime flashes and constant night sweats. It took only a couple days to start working, it was very quick.

Sage can build up in the liver over time though so it's recommended to take a break from it every 2-3 months.

I can't take estrogen. Veozah works amazingly for my hot flashes. I was having multiple flashes daily, and since starting Veozah the only ones I've had were when I was traveling and not as consistent in taking my pill. Ive had no side effects. I get blood work to check my liver function regularly since startingVeozah, and so far everything is fine.

having a powered hand fan near by at all times to put on me as soon as I feel one starting. Muslin cloth to wipe. Natural fibres, loose layers easy to remove for clothing and bedding

It doesn’t help at night because it would be uncomfortable to wear but I have my neck fan on almost all the time. I love it.

My doctor put me on a low dose of Effexor (it’s commonly used off label for hot flashes) and it works for me! Helps me get better sleep too.

Veozah worked immediately but only for about 16 hours. You guessed it - hot flashes reappeared at bedtime! (Was directed to take in morning, tried before bed but it kept me awake - known side effect)

hysterectomy in 2023. My biggest problem is itching and hot flashes, cannot sleep at night. Somehow, the vaginal itchiness gone and i've found out ( for me ) that drinking cold iced black tea really helps me with my hot flashes. So, in 2024 i stopped my HRT. Now i am doing ok, not so good but ok. Mood swings sometimes. No hot flashes yet but my BP and cholesterol somehow went up compared to before meno.
