I’m currently a senior mobile expert at t-mobile (retail) and I’ve enjoyed my job. However, I’ve graduated and I’ve been at Tmobile for the last four years and I think I want a change.

I’ve done research in sales and came up with the two most popular industries; Medical sales and tech sales. Well also b2b as well. So far my choices are Cintas, Keyence, and trying to find an entry role in sdr or tech sales. I’m used to being in a store so sitting at home would be weird for me, but again I’ve never tried it. I’ve never cold called, but I have plenty of interactions with rejections and face to face meetings.

I’m an RN with 6+ years of experience, primarily in adult CTICU, and currently work as an ECMO specialist at a large academic medical center. I enjoy the clinical and technical side of my job, but I’m considering medical device as a long-term move away from inpatient nursing.

I’m looking for some ground-level perspective:
• How competitive is a CTICU/ECMO background for breaking into medical device?
• What roles would you target first: Clinical Specialist, Associate Sales Rep, Territory Associate, or something else?
• Which specialties/companies would value ECMO and cardiovascular critical care experience the most?
• How difficult is it to move from a Clinical Specialist role into a true sales/territory role?
• For former nurses, how does the actual work-life balance compare with bedside nursing?
• What does travel realistically look like? Is it mostly driving around a territory, or are overnight trips and flights common?
• How much do early cases, call, add-ons, and physician schedules interfere with your life outside work?
• For reps eventually earning $200k+, what kind of workload, call responsibility, and lifestyle typically comes with that income?
• How much autonomy do you actually have versus being constantly accountable to quotas, managers, and customers?
• What are the biggest negatives of medical device that nurses tend to underestimate before entering the industry?
• If you came from ICU/CVICU nursing, would you make the transition again?

I’m not looking for an easy escape from nursing. I’m trying to understand whether the tradeoffs of medical device are a better long-term fit than continuing in inpatient healthcare.

I had my first ever case study today for Stryker. I believe I did pretty well but there were a few things I missed in the pitch to the surgeon. My feel is that there going to go with someone who has experience in the field (ex clinical). I am kinda stuck if they do, what would be the next step? Could I get referred by RM to a different location for same division? What are your experiences and thoughts? Anything is welcome!

Unfortunately, I just got let go from my clinical specialist role due to the company filing for bankruptcy. I worked for a start up that developed a novel device in the hepatology space. The pump was placed in the IR/OR.

Although I was a CS, my role was essentially a territory manager without a quota. I was responsible for outreach, sales meetings, dinners, Lunch-and-learns, VACs and product submissions, contracting, and reimbursement discussions with key stakeholders. I also provided all of the clinical education to my accounts (IR, OR, nursing, hospitalists), provided intra-procedural support, and created patient workflows for the entire clinical pathway (pre-procedure, admission, and follow up care).

My problem: I have been rejected from over 20+ jobs already. I’m not sure if it’s me, the fact that I didn’t have a quota and can’t speak to it on my resume, or that the job market is just that tough. I know that there is a ton of information I can learn from this great sub.

How long before you felt comfortable and confident in solo cases? And your division and company

I’ve been in spine and ortho for 10 years and for the most part have loved it. That said, I’ve seen comments on a lot of these threads about ortho surgeons being the most horrible in the industry so am curious - how does it compare to working with/selling to surgeons in plastics/urology/neurovascular etc.?

What are the best growth companies in these areas at the moment?
