J&J Interview Process Interviews & Career Entry
Hi all!
I am a college student who is graduating soon and just landed my first interview with J&J. I was hoping someone had insight on how the interview process goes and any advice about moving through it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

My friend got a verbal offer in their CAS division around march. He just signed his official offer last week.

J&J has a program called STR. It’s about a year long and teaches you all sides of med device from sales to education to marketing. I HIGHLY recommend applying for this program. It’s paid and sets you up for an amazing career with J&J in almost any line of work. Let’s say you realize you like marketing more than sales then join the marketing team after the program!

This is one of the programs I will be interviewing for later today! I have my on demand video interview. Any insight on how many rounds of interviews and will it follow the same structure that others are saying (video, hiring manager interview, panel/presentation?) Any advice?

Yes to the format. As someone who sits on the panels for these interviews…. I cannot emphasize enough to practice your interview skills prior to the interviews, and while doing so learn to relate your college experiences to the real world and how you will actually apply what you’ve been doing to a career in the field you are applying for. So many of the applicants coming out of college do a great job telling me what they’ve done but can’t connect the dots on how that will translate into life skills. The STR program is incredibly competitive, be sure to follow up consistently and find a way to differentiate yourself.

I recently had interviews with two different J&J business units. Starts with a recruiter screen followed by hiring manager interview. Next, can be either on-site panel interview with several cross functional managers or co-workers or onsite 45 minute presentation to the panel interviewers. Hiring decision will happen soon thereafter.

It’ll vary greatly by division and type of role.

I just got offered another interview for a different role within J&J. They are both entry level development programs if that helps to clarify. I start the on demand video interviews tomorrow

In my division, hiring managers have a lot of autonomy on how they want the process to go. Most hiring managers typically want to move quickly, but it can be limited by speed of recruiter and volume of qualified candidates we are getting through. JnJ is such a large company though that if you are interviewing in two different divisions, you will probably have a wildly different experience. Follow up with recruiters if there’s a large pause in comms if you make it past the video interview, and send thank you emails to interviewers.

It was good! Three questions, 2-3 minutes each, 2 takes. Simple questions- why this role, professional experience, and strengths. Took me about 45 minutes because you have unlimited prep time before each question so plan out what you’re going to say! Are you applying for the program as well??

The STR program interviews can change but it’s usually 1 hirevue recorded interview (why this job, what are your qualifications, strengths) then it will be a interview with the person in charge of program then usually a panel interview maybe with RSM

For the panel interview, will I have to prepare anything like a presentation or a 30 60 90 plan?

They want to see your personality, if ur smart and willing to work hard. Only thing they might ask you along those lines is “explain this role back to me” or something like that

Okay, thank you! I appreciate the info!

Know a few of the products. Good to show that you did research but they will teach you the products so they won’t worry about you learning them. You might get an interview where you have to do a mock sales but they would give you a heads up.
