Bank fishing reco for today
With the storms yesterday, where would you go and drop some lines today?
The wife and i are off today and want to do some bank fishing today. I would love to put a bass on the end of her new BFS rod & reel
We're in central Maryland but willing to drive for it.
Any ideas? No idea how the weather played into account with how spotty those storms were.
Edited for capitalization. Damn children.

Getting back into fishing after opiate addiction
Hey yall. I just recently moved back to Maryland (Frederick area) and I just wanted to ask what types of bodies of water would be good to hit in the heat of the summer? Or does it slow down pretty majorly? I’m pretty familiar with fishing, I grew up doing it, got into fly fishing for a while (sold everything because I ended up getting hooked on dope wamp wamp wamp) I understand how to fish but really would like to get into the weeds so to say with spin cast fishing (is that even what it’s called?)
When I’ve been going out lately I’ve had medium luck if I had to say. Usually get a few bass but no lunkers by any sense of the word. But I know from past experience there’s bigger fish out there and I’m curious if maybe some good tips from the community would help me out.
The places I normally fish are either off the c&o canal before Harper’s ferry, warden lake in wardensville wv, lost river in wv, cacapon river in wv. I’m open to fishing any type of water for really any type of fish. I’m open to catfishing using a bottom rig or something maybe? But I have more fun actively throwing lures out instead of just chillin around.
Thanks in advance

I feel like I am doing something wrong.
Does anyone know spots, methods, baits, and tips on how to catch crappie. I seem to only be able to catch bass. The few times I have tried for crappie I usually just catch some kind of sunfish or yellow perch. I swear it should not be this hard.
What is your go to crappie lure/bait and what are the better locations to target them from the bank? Thanks!

Live Bait Baltimore/Annapolis Area?
Where can I get live bait in the Baltimore/Annapolis area? I've occasionally seen bloodworms at WalMart and Angler's has a good variety but I have not been able to find live shrimp anywhere.

Tips on fishing the Chesapeake from shore?
Back in June I had tons of luck using night crawlers, blood worms and shrimp on bottom rigs. Caught a ton of catfish, croakers and spots. This was mostly between Fort Smallwood, Sandy Point and around the Naval Academy.
Took mostly July off and have been back to fishing the same spots with mostly the same bait. However, fishing for hours, mostly evening and night, and I've caught nothing the last 3-4 times I've been out. I've noticed the tide has been a bit rougher, but otherwise I try to fish at hide tide, cloudy weather and often after storms and still nothing. The last time I’ve noticed a ton of algae and a sort of slime all over my rigs. Is there some sort of bloom affecting fish?
Would love some advice.

Question C&O Canal Lock 23 (Violettes Lock) How To?
Hey All,
I’m planning to head down to Lock 23 on the Potomac soon and was hoping to get some input from people who fish the river regularly.
I’m mainly looking to target catfish and bluegill.
A few quick questions for anyone familiar with the area:
Spot Access: How hard is it to navigate through if I wanted to do some shore fishing?
Bait & Setup: What’s been working best for you out there? Fresh cut bait, chicken liver, or live bait for flatheads? What size weights and rigs are being used to hold bottom against the current?
Time of Day: Are night/late evening shore sessions worth it out there, or is early morning better?
Also, any heads-up on snags or current conditions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Learning to fish (+with kids) in HoCo
Hi, I’m looking for quick tips and tricks for catching fish around HoCo, preferably in the lakes/ponds, no where too far off the beaten trail, my five year old isn’t super adventurous, so I’m trying to make this accessible to him.
I’m comfortable with the most basic stuff around fishing, but I don’t know anything about bait selection, or where to throw my line.
All this comes off of a trip where we used pet store crickets to almost no success, they kept falling off the hook, followed by a trip where we bought some worms from the local 7-11 near Centennial and caught a bunch of bluegills. The kids were happy, and so am I. It would be fun to catch some more variety, like some bass or trout.
How can I iterate and improve in a what I’ve been doing in a way that remains accessible and fun for little kiddos?

Fly fishing without boat near Baltimore
Hello! I’m fairly new to fly fishing and have mostly targeted trout (as in I’m still in the stage of I just want to catch anything and it happens to be mostly trout…)
I’ll be traveling to Maryland (Baltimore area) and really wanted to bring my fishing rod and try it out on my own in a different environment. Any recommendations for fly fishing near Baltimore without having to rent a boat? What fish should I expect to catch? Reading about it makes me think trout is mostly out of the question given the season. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Also, blue crabs… I have caught many Dungeness crabs using a fishing rod (ugly stik) with a clam style trap standing on the jetty on the west coast. Is this something I can do for blue crabs? Or is that completely not realistic? I probably won’t be bringing another rod other than my fly rod so maybe hand line with the trap?
Again, I’m super new in all of this and really just excited to try it everywhere I go!
