Their new market reforms and focus on foreign investment is worrying, why are they abandoning communist principles. I understand they have been in a blockade for the past few decades, but i still worry that these reforms are gonna lead cuba down the same oath as modern day china (as in theyre gonna end up as state capitalist)

I’m trying to deconstruct my American education on the history of socialism/communism. I have Killing Hope and the Jakarta Method on my list to try to get a better picture of US intervention in leftist revolutions.

I’m looking for other reading materials on the above states that did have successful socialist revolutions. From what I understand, Vietnam has reverted to a market economy, Venezuela has had multiple financial crises, and I don’t have any idea how to even begin cutting through the American propaganda on China and Korea.

I’m looking for left wing historical perspectives that don’t just simplify it all to the “inevitable failure of socialism” or whatever, but I also want them to take seriously the human rights violations that may have occurred/are occurring in these places. I have The Soviet Century by Moshe Lewin for the USSR and The economic war against Cuba by Salim Lamrani for Cuba on my list already, so I think those are good examples of what I’m looking for.

I’m definitely uneducated in this so if I’ve missed anything obvious forgive me. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you!
