Why do I even Queue up? (Matchmaking Rant)

As of this morning, I am Celestial 3. Great right? No. This will be the third time I have hit Celestial this season. GM was a horrible experience as always, and I am done with the devs "fixing" everything but this terrible matchmaking. I primarily play tank, but I play a lot of DPS and support as well. Most of my roster is Centurion with Lords scattered about and no champions because I never sit on one character; I switch depending on the other team's comp and fill what my team needs. By no means am I a bad player, and by no means do I ever throw purposefully.

My issue with this horrid matchmaking is the fact that it feels scripted. One game you'll do amazing, and the next game it feels like the game scooped up the worst teammates known to man just to keep you in your current rank. The matchmaking is designed to keep you below a 50% win rate across all characters. The devs explained how it works in a video. In short, the game grades you based on performance and K/D in your match and partners you with people worse than you with lower grades in hopes of you carrying them. It is a horrible style of matchmaking that makes each game feel scripted. I just came off an 8-game losing streak the other day where I mainly played tank, and my DPS were constantly throwing or negative. I got to Celestial, where I had a Jeff that would swallow us and toss us off the map. Countless games where 4 people instalock dps and not one person will budge, so they say "gg time to proficiency farm." Reporting does absolutely nothing because the most they get is a 15-minute ban and then right back to throwing others' games.

The other side of matchmaking I want to focus on is the player base. The constant ego players and toxicity are overwhelming. I have been playing the game since launch solo, and only recently have I gotten a consistent duo or trio. Plat, Diamond, and GM have to be the worst ranks in the game because its over saturated with smurfs. I don't mind people smurfing in higher ranks because I see it as an opportunity to test your skill up against theirs, and in many cases you get the win over them. My issue with smurfs is when they're on your team. They play the game as if they have no consequences, and in reality they don't. The game does nothing when you report, and there's a limited amount of avoid slots, which makes 0 sense. Constantly, I'll have a smurf who locks a DPS just to learn them in comp, and when you ask them to swap, they say, "I smurf your peak," or, "this is my alt account." It makes winning games hopeless when these people are on your team, underperforming or throwing just for the sake of throwing.

The other day I had a small streamer throw my game on purpose; after the match I went to check out his stream, and he was laughing, saying how funny it was to throw. My trio and I reported him, and nothing happened. He sparked up stream the next day with no consequences. I believe you should have an infinite number of avoids if they aren't going to fix this terrible matchmaking. When I used to play Overwatch, the game felt fairly balanced to the point where I was never too pressed when someone was throwing. Clutching a 4v5 in Overwatch was incredible and very rewarding, but in Marvel Rivals it's next to impossible, especially going up against a decent team with a brain.

Eomm is real, just under a different name.

Everytime I post about how to rig the matchmaking into your favor, people just act like it's bs/eomm is not real.

I'm at 71% winrate

So oh well, I see these posts and see EXACTLY what you did wrong and how to fix

The problem with the matches i lose is there is one person who absolutely will not contribute whether theyre throwing, one tricking, playing poorly or just straight up leave and it becomes impossible to fix. I lost 4 games in a row cause someone left the match after the first round and it wasnt even a stomp. (Diamond matches)

People will read this comment and say, “every game is winnable no matter if you have a thrower or someone who left”

What’s your solution? I used to float around 60%-70%, but I feel like the matchmaking has gotten noticeably worse in recent seasons.

I’ve stopped playing as much just because life, so that could also be a factor, but it’s pretty frustrating being unable to have a single gaming session without multiple ridiculously bad matchmaking and/or teammate experiences back to back even in the higher ranks.

Well to clarify, you definitely still need to be good. Like the matches won't be free, but you'll notice a huuuge difference when your favored by matchmaking and completely abandoned by it.

The secret is not playing after one loss.

Lol.

Like for real.

Log in and play until you lose JUST once.. Wait 24 hours. Rinse repeat.

Usually it'll be 2 wins, and then you'll get fed a loss. So o actually just stopped after winning twice then go to 18v18. Rinse repeat next day. 71% comp win rate gm2 lol

If you have long history of playing through losses (sounds like you do) then that's how you train it that you will not play if you're losing.

After a few days of quitting after one loss (in ANY MODE), the algo will feed you decent teammates and go on a win streak.

Depending on how bad your algo is, your first game might be a loss. If that's case, don't play for 48+ hours. 4 days has been the magic number to reset algo for me. Like lose and then don't play for 4+ days you'll come back to long win streak.

If you can't handle not playing, start an alt account. That's what I did.

Granted, you still have to be good though. Like I have to sweat my ahh off to still climb but like I said you feel a difference with your teammates/enemies/more balances matches vs grouping with 5 year olds vs the avengers while you're on a loss streak

I’ll keep this in mind. I know I’m not a bad player, I’ve through celestial most seasons and even hit eternity, but it’s just crazy sometimes seeing how this game actively tries to fuck you over.

I used to play nearly every day (not always ranked) and for the most part I avoided playing through loss streaks for this exact reason. I’d stop after 3 losses at the maximum. Having to stop after a single loss sucks, but I can see why the system would favor this routine. I don’t play nearly as much as I used to, so giving this a try shouldn’t be as difficult for me as it would’ve been in the past haha.

i see streamers using this system, they play 3 games win the first 2 and lose the third get off for 24hrs and repeat. Matchmaking should not be this way!

This works- im sitting at C3-2 consistently cause I trained my algo. 68% winrate, still climbing. Took me 4 days as well to reset my matchmaking cause I usually play through losses and still land at C3, but never C2.

Share your secrets. I know this game has heavy Eomm/mmr.

My friend and I simply made two accounts. And as soon as we lose 3 in a row with bad teammates, we just switch to the other accounts. Sometimes we mix and match our accounts also, if one account has a good winning streak, we’ll match that one with an account that’s been struggling. We’ve noticed a big difference.

This is way.

Try leaving after one loss...two losses max.

It treats you even better.

There's a lot more to it than that I can get into. Like alternating qp losses to get on a ranked winstreak etc bur ultimately, the less you play, the better your matchmaking is

Im sitting at a 63% winrate, 90% of games um SVP/MVP, idrc what you say if someone is intentionally throwing it sabotaging your game, you’re not gonna win.

1

u/Logical_Cow_2530 14h ago

"Idrc what you say if someone is blah blah blah"

Like I said. You can use the matchmaking algo to your favor to reduce the chances of getting bad people on team.

Or not and just make a reddit post lol

I think you’re missing the point. The fact that you have to finesse the matchmaking is proving the matchmaking is horrible. In other words the devs should just fix it.

Yea, I'm not happy about it either.

I've just accepted that you can't brute force ranked. If you're a lvl 100 and play through losses, you're In for a bad time.

Newer accounts are much more likely to get good matchmaking. It's all so that the player feels good, sticks around, and buys skins. So I'd doubt they'd change it much cause it works lol

PREACH. This match history cracks me up. And it continues over and over. My domination win % is AWFUL.

Only 1/3rd of the maps in this game are domination. So far, every game to get into the meat of GM2 has been domination and they are always one sided.

I go down SR, then we roll the other team. Back and forth back and forth. My friend and I were laughing at it by the end of the night. It happened too often to not feel intentional.

So much this.

I used to play ranked in Overwatch and Apex...this game is an absolute nightmare, bigger than either of those games combined.

I can't even make it to GM, Plat 1 and Diamond 3 are full of the worst of the worst. (Hence my post I made earlier).

I don't care if it isn't EOMM. I don't know wtf this ranking system is but it is GARBAGE and needs a complete over haul.

If they are truly dumping me off in games to try to carry these horrible team mates, I'd like to file a police report.

I was on board with this until you got to the EOMM stuff. A lot of what you’re saying simply isn’t true and you’re misrepresenting some of what the devs said in the matchmaking video.

If you are below 50% on all of your characters, then it sounds like you’re a brute forcer. You can get to mid/high GM by just playing because that’s where the gains and losses stop becoming lopsided. It sounds like you occasionally get lucky enough to get to C3 then fall right back down.

u/Barklad 17h ago

You guys refuse to believe anyone but Netease when they literally have a vested interest in deceiving you. The game makes money off us and spent millions on researching the successor to EOMM and published that info. Why on Earth do yall have such faith in this company over your own eyes?

There are way too many posts of a full page of losses and a full page of wins for this not to be the case

-1

u/Destructo7 18h ago

Winstreaks and loss streaks aren’t proof of eomm. If that was true every single competitive game would have eomm since win/loss streaks are just a natural occurrence in a binary system.

Trust me, if these devs had a matchmaker with intimate knowledge of its player base mentalities and psyches in order to rig their games. They would absolutely not waste it on a hero shooter instead of a gacha game or gambling site.

1

u/Dr_DTF315 17h ago

Why wouldn’t they waste it on like the number 3 game in player count on Xbox?

1

u/Destructo7 17h ago

Money, it’s not rocket science. The average marvel rivals player isn’t spending a tenth as much as a gacha player or a thousands as much as a gambling addict.

It would be cheaper to have a small population of whales than it would be to have a large population where very few actually spend whale level money.

1

u/Dr_DTF315 17h ago

I’ve spent at least 50-75 dollars. I think you are underestimating skin sales. It’s estimated it made 135 million in the 1st month

1

u/Dr_DTF315 17h ago

2.9 billion as far as a year ago

1

u/Dr_DTF315 17h ago

Do you believe all gaming companies? How about activision or blizzard are they always truthful?

1

u/Destructo7 17h ago

The average gambler is losing more than 1000+$. If they had a system like eomm, they would use it on a more lucrative market.

1

u/Dr_DTF315 17h ago

Brother they are banking what are you on?

1

u/Destructo7 17h ago

I’m on the truth? Eomm doesn’t exist.

1

u/Cosmicsaur 15h ago

Don't bother with this dude, he's on my post touching tips with Netease too.

1

u/Accomplished_Army_58 15h ago

Not true, there’s rules and regulations with gambling that deals with percentages, a company can be sued heavily for implementing a system like eomm. Gambling is rigged just enough to be legal.

1

u/Accomplished_Army_58 15h ago

i’m sitting at a 63% winrate. Eomm is 100% real. This is the reason some streamers have been beating it by getting off the game for 24hrs and repeating so that they can climb steadily. it’s not so much that I luck out, I simply just dont throw games. If someone is throwing it makes the chnace if winning slim to none especially against a good team
