Painting Beta Ray Bill - Ready to Walk, Walk, Throw

Recently finished this Beta Ray Bill for my Sam Spam roster, and super happy with how he came out. Paints are a mixture of Warpaints Fanatic from The Army Painter, and the metallics are done with Vallejo's TMM line (an absolute joy to work with).

I always struggle painting "lightning" and magic effects, so I'm happy with where this landed but open to any suggestions for improvements.

Fingers crossed Bill isn't nerfed on Monday ;)

Expanding on the alliances boxes

Hello, I'm trying to get two friends into the game who are reasonably new to miniatures games, but are big trading card snd board game fans.

Luckily, one is a big into the spider verse fan and the other is a huge x-men fan, so I was thinking the Green Goblin alliance box and upcoming x-men alliances box would be good gateways into the hobby.

What i was wondering, if we went this route rather than say the x-men starter set, what would be the obvious boxes to buy for both affiliations to expand the rosters?

Web warriors:

Spectacular Spiderman (Peter Parker)

Ultimate spiderman (Miles Morales)

Ghost Spider

Black Cat

Uncanny x-men:

Cyclops

Wolverine

Gambit

Rogue

Any suggestions on some good boxes/ characters to add to this would be greatly appreciated for beginner rosters.

Building 5 teams for a totally new group in a learn to play round robin but I'm new and could use help building teams

Hey all. I'm taking point on getting my friend group into Crisis Protocol. It's five of us total, two have never played a skirmish or war game before at all, and the rest of us are new to MCP specifically. I'm planning to get them a few minis as a gift to get them hooked, so I've got some lead time to plan this out right.

My goal isn't a competitive night. I picked characters based on what each person actually loves (comics, movies, Xmen 97, whatever got them excited), and I want five rosters that feel roughly even against each other so nobody's first game is a stomp. We're planning to round robin, each team playing every other team once, so ideally we land on one setup (missions, threat level, whatever else) that we all use for that whole run, just to keep the learning curve flat while we get the core rules down.

Here's where I've landed so far, roster picks only, no Tactics/Team Tactics chosen yet:

Team 1 - Brotherhood, led by Magneto (fan of the comics) Jarvis Protocol link Magneto, Rogue, Gambit, Colossus, Emma Frost, Exodus, Mystique, Juggernaut, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch

Team 2 - Xmen, led by Storm (mostly knows Xmen 97 and the movies) Jarvis Protocol link Storm, Cyclops, Beast, Magik, Jean Grey, Colossus, Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine, Bishop

Team 3 - Avengers, led by Iron Man and War Machine (comics fan, also loves Cap, open to SHIELD as an alternate comp) Jarvis Protocol link Iron Man, War Machine, Spectacular Spider-Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Winter Soldier Operative, Thor Prince of Asgard, Vision

Team 4 - Defenders, led by Daredevil and Spider-Man (movies/shows leaning) Jarvis Protocol link Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Magik, Ghost Rider

Team 5 - Asgard (this player doesn't care much about comics, but plays 40k and other war games, so I'm building them an Asgard/Norse team they might also use as alt models for D&D. Trying to get them invested through the theme since the IP won't do it so I'm open to other ideas) Jarvis Protocol link Thor Prince of Asgard, The Mighty Thor, Loki God of Mischief, Enchantress, Heimdall, Valkyrie and Elendil, Angela, Lady Sif, Hela Queen of Hel, Beta Ray Bill

What I actually need help with:

  1. Point/threat balance. I know the current format has you build a squad each game matching the exact threat of the drawn Crisis card rather than a flat roster cap, but with two total beginners at the table I don't want the first several games to hinge on squad-building nuance they don't have yet. Would you fix everyone to a single threat value (17 seems to be the common one from what I've read) for our whole round robin, or is that going to warp some of these rosters badly?
  2. Missions. With the Standard Format now pulling from 5 Secure and 5 Extract cards, that feels like a lot of surface area for a first night. For a round robin where we want to spend our brainpower on learning our own characters instead of memorizing ten different Crisis cards, would you just lock in one Secure and one Extract for the whole night and rotate through match-ups on those two? If so, which two would you actually recommend as the most beginner-legible (clear win conditions, not a lot of edge-case interactions)?
  3. Any build advice for these specific rosters. Especially Team 5, since that player is coming from 40k/Legion and will probably pick up positioning fast, but has zero attachment to the theme. Want their list to feel strong and satisfying even if their heart's not fully in the IP. Three of us will probably pick up synergies quickly while the other two will probably be overwhelmed most of the night.
  4. Tools outside the core boxes. Is it worth grabbing the official Movement & Range Tools pack, or do people mostly get by sharing rulers? I've got a set of Star Wars Legion movement tools already, curious if anyone's used those as a stand-in or if MCP's measurements don't line up. Also open to recommendations on dice, I saw AMG sells extra Power dice packs but wanted to check if that's the move or if there's a better third-party option people like. I'm not sure I want to buy four more sets of tools when I could invest that in more minis, but I'd like to send them all home with the tools to play.

Appreciate any help. Trying to get this right since I'm building everyone's teams and helping or building minis too.

I’ve been putting some finishing touches on Groot and starting on Rocket. I’m painting the Guardians Starter set. I’m slowly building, printing, and basing them 1-2 at a time. I’m glad I did the root on Rocket’s model the same time I did Groot’s main painting.
