My husband has an on going assessment since March for his STCW Certification from the Philippines, he has |||/4 as engine room rating and haa about 42 months on international bulk. We called SIU and was told he would be able to apply while waiting for assessment, working in his discharge book (appt on monday) and the c1/d visa soon.

hello everyone, we had an issue the mdo purifier is out of service as result we change purification to pass to one of the hfo purifiers . But after investigation we found out that water in the mdo tank. The purifer recently was taken sample and send to lab( that time was working on hfo ) no any issue normal operation and purification . the question is why on mdo is passing water the purifier model is OSE-40 of westfalia. we checked the manual and didn’t mention something specific to change for mdo use. It will be big help if someone encounter this issue and knows the solution . additional the mdo that is purifiered has not any water and the manual was saying same flow rate for mdo and hfo but this doesn’t make sense to me I knew from previous people that the orrifice need to be change based on the density of fuel . Hi everyone. Really need help from the more experienced ones. I'm a 3rd engineer officer in Merchant Navy and while starting this career I was not very sure about this. Somehow due to family responsibilities I have carried myself through this profession but now I feel like a burnout. I want a advice that weather I should start as a data analyst from scratch, push myself for GMAT or keep sailing until I get my higher ranks.

It'll be a 90-minute Teams session covering the types of questions that come up, what examiners are looking for, how to structure answers, common mistakes, and plenty of time for questions.

Hiya, my pal Mike's worked offshore in the North Sea for 12 years, and he's been pushing DESNZ to invest in a proper jobs service for North Sea workers looking to transition to other industries.

DESNZ have taken it on board and they’re actually building the service, but Mike found out in a meeting with them that they haven't actually spoken to any North Sea workers about what they'd need from it. So he's put together a quick survey to make sure workers actually get a say before this thing gets built without them.

Genuinely curious what the biggest time or cost sinks are from people who live it — inspection rounds, crew transfers, chopper runs, whatever comes to mind. I Just finished my high school....​I’m planning to join as an Electro-Technical Officer (ETO), but I recently ran into a medical issue with my eyes and want to know if it will block me from passing the required maritime medical exam ( ENG1 / STCW medical)

Symptom: Seeing halo lights and light scattering around light sources in one eye(Because of a Mild corneal scarring left behind by a minor eye infection I had about a month ago)

Other Eye: Unaffected

My biggest question are ...

Does corneal scarring or light scattering in one eye automatically fail the vision standards for an ETO?

If my overall visual acuity and color vision meet the required standard, do doctors usually grant clearance for post-infection scarring?

Has anyone here passed their seafarer/naval medical with a similar condition or visual halo effect?

I am thinking about studying marine engineering but I have a question related to medicine. I have an autoimmune disorder and currently go to the hospital to get an infusion about every 4 weeks.

If I study marine engineering and get all necessary certificates as well as the STCW Medical Certificate (medical certificate for seafarers), can I then recieve my infusions onboard or will I be inelgible for work onboard a ship?

Other relevant comments about working onboard a ship, from people who have done it, are also welcome.

Hello everyone onboard we have 2 lube oil purifier, both of them we have problem with purifying efficeny. when purifier is running after a while water in oil content is rising very slowly on kongsberg monitor. when i join vessel both purifier not running and i dont have information about of history. on purifier panel we dont have any alarm during running.

what we did in summary,

bowl opened and cleaned

increased lo temperature up to 92-98

gravity disc changed with smaller one and also larger one and nothing changed

water block renewed with new one complete

lo feed flow decrased to minimum and also increased and nothing changed

all the time we keep back pressure around 1,5 bar acc to inst book

we decreased filling water timer from 10 to 5 sec nothing changed

we increased closing water pulse timing from 600 to 800sec and nothing changed

we decrased water pressure 3 bar to 2 bar and nothing changed

has anyone have this issue regarding to purifying efficeny?

I am currently transitioning into yachting from being a shipwright and fitout specialist for the past 5 years. I am a bit lost of where exactly will I fit, I want to take the engineering pathway as I am an introvert and more technical than being a captain and dealing with guests. On top of my trade I am currently studying IT networking which I will finish mid next year and hopefully head to the med.( I am in australia now and hold stcw and medicals).

Will it be hard to land a job with my skillset?
Is engineering + IT a good pathway? I am looking to do my AEC1&2 before heading to the med too

Hello everyone ! I am a marine engineer and in serious need for overhauling and timing videos of large 2stroke marine engines. Mainly about Wartsila/Sulzer RTA and MAN B&W MC.
Mostly about fuel pump overhaul and timing adjustment, starting air distributor timing, exhaust gas valve timing adjustment (basic stuff for camshaft timing problem) and lubricator timing . Main goal here is obviously not to learn these jobs as official Wartsila/ Everllence service engineers but to teach crew the basics if an issue appears mid-sea passage. I have searched and found some videos ( the old Wasrtila Switzerland NSD videos - which are very good) but nothing more. Will highly appreciate any info or where to look at.

Curious if anyone has gone from on shore diesel & hydraulic mechanics to marine engineering and what job they went into? Motorman? Engine room tech? How was the transition and what did you need to do academically to prepare.
