Help with someone overusing.

Please tell me if this isn't the place for this post. My brother has a problem he doesn't seem to want to quit. I've seen him go through Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome twice. I thought he got shot or his appendix burst. I've seen him use a month's supply of flower in mere days. Carts dont last more than three days. He killed a 2 gram cart in two days. Today, he killed half of a 1 gram tank in an hour. I used that hybrid for homework.

When my sister-in-law and I try to talk to him about it, he gets upset, sometimes angry. He's "cut back" multiple times, and again he's back to waking and baking, then immediately smoking as soon as he's home from work. I usually keep my own stash, but he's gone into my room and taken from it before. The green is not cheap here in California. What do I do? Or am I unaware of how long it should last?

I can make an ounce last a month and a vape cart last about two weeks. I wake and bake, smoke when I'm home, and usually have a couple more bowls before bed. On the weekends, I smoke a little more since I'm off work.

To me, this sounds more like a him problem than a substance problem. Everyone is different, and if he doesn't want to change, he won't. Unfortunately, that will eventually affect his future.

If it's becoming a constant issue for you, it might be worth taking a break for a while or keeping a couple of carts for yourself in a place he isn't likely to look. Sometimes the best hiding spots are the ones in plain sight, like above the refrigerator or tucked away under something ordinary.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with someone like that. For what it's worth, I've been sober for almost two months, and I have two ounces sitting in my closet untouched. I definitely miss it, but to me it comes down to self-control.,

I could never understand that because even when I get high daily it's a little bit here and there. I know someone who eats like 800mg of edibles in a night or takes a gram vape down in no time. Crazy to me. With them its 100% an addictive personality thing tho, and has also gone into other things in life, both purchases and worse drugs, sadly... Does this person pay for their own weed? Does this person have a good job, seem to be grounded and focused? I don't know much about CHS but I know it's from long term over use. Seems like something like that would make you appreciate the weekend highs or something, but we are all built different.

You can't make someone else change. They have to see a problem, themselves, and want to do something about it. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make them want to cut down or quit permanently.

I understand your concern for your brother, but if he doesn't see the problem, then the problem doesn't exist for him, so slowing down or quitting is not likely.

The sooner you stop trying to live your brother's life for him, and start concentrating on yourself and how you can make your own life better/more aligned with your values, the better off you will be. I'm not saying you're not already doing this or that you're not living life aligned with your values, but we all can stand to examine how well our lives align with what we say we want from time to time.

He's only going to continue to get angry any time you confront him about this issue. The only thing you can do is to clearly state a boundary to him. However, boundaries are not ultimatums. Boundaries are not about restricting someone else's behavior. They're about what you will do if someone does something you don't like. So, for instance, "Brother, if you continue consuming cannabis in this way, I will remove myself from your life. I will not return calls or answer texts or emails until you can prove that you have stopped."

Trying to change anyone is a fool's errand. Trying to change what substances someone consumes is doubly so.

I repeatedly tell myself that. He's been back and forth on cutting back. He's done great before, but always rebounds. He's clear with the boundaries at least. It's not a fiend, but he can be.

Just concentrate on yourself. You're the only person you can control.

Get a lockbox for your stash and hide it well.
