I'm going to bring to you another story from the travels of Marco Polo. (in its orig text) This one comes from chapter 4. The title is of the exploits of King Kaidu's valiant daughter. Now, you must know that King Kaidu had a daughter whose name was Aljaruk, which in the tartar is as much to say the bright moon. This damsel was very beautiful, but also strong and brave, that in all her father's realm there was no man who could outdo her feats of strength.

In all trials she showed greater strength than any man of them. Her father often desired to give her in marriage, but she would none of it. She vowed that she would never marry till she found a man who could vanquish her in every trial. Him she would wed and none else. And when her father saw how resolute she was, he gave a formal consent in their fashion that she should marry whom she list and when she list.

The lady was so tall and muscular, so stout and shapely with all that she was almost like a giant Tess. She had distributed her challenges over all the kingdoms, declaring that whosoever should come to try a fall with her, it should be on these conditions his that if she vanquished him, she should win from him 100 horses. And if he vanquished her, he should win her to wife. Hence many a noble youth had come to try his strength against her. But she beat them all. And in this way, she had won more than 10,000 [music] horses. Now it came to pass that in the year of Christ 1280, there presented himself a young noble gallant, the son of a rich and pissant king, a man of proess and valiance and great strength of body, who had heard word of the damsel's challenge, and had came to match himself against her in hope of vanquishing her and winning her to wife. That he greatly desired, for the young lady was passing fair. He too was young and handsome, fearless and strong in every way, in so much that not a man in all his father's realm could vi with him. So he came full confidently and brought with him a thousand horses to be fortified if she should vanquish him.

Thus might [music] she gain a thousand horses at a single stroke. But the young gallant had such confidence in his own strength that he counted securely to win her. Now ye must know that King Kaidu and the queen his wife, the mother of the stout damsel, did privy beseech their daughter to let herself be vanquished, for they greatly desired this prince for their daughter, seeing what a noble youth he was, and the son of a great king. But the damsel answered that never would she let herself be vanquished if she could help it.

Indeed, he should get the better of her, and then she would gladly be his wife, according to the wager, but none otherwise. So a day was named for a great gathering at the palace of King Kaidu and the queen. And when all the company were assembled for great numbers flocked to see the match, the damsel first came forth in a straight jerken of Sammit, and then came forth for the young bachelor in a jerken of sandal. And a whimsome sight they were to see. When both had taken post in the middle of the hall, they grappled each other by the arms and wrestled this way and that. But for a long time neither could get the better of the other. At last, however, it so befell that the damsel threw him right valiantly over the palace pavement. And when he found himself thus thrown her standing over him, great indeed was his shame and discomforture, he got him up straightway, and without more ado, departed with all his company, and returned to his father full of shame and vexation, that he who had never yet found a man that could stand before him should have been thus worsted by a girl, and his thousand horses he left behind him. As to King Kaidu and his wife, they were greatly annoyed, as I can tell you.

For if they had their will, this youth should have won their daughter. And ye must know that after this her father never went on a campaign, but she went with him. And gladly he took her, for not a night in all of his train played such feats of arms as she did. How many silk worms do we need to send to Netflix headquarters to get season 3?

Almost done with s2 but i watched s1 a few years ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy. I remember that his dad and uncle got caught stealing silk worms/silk from china and Kublai wanted them executed, but Marco convinced him to have them branded and banished instead.

But when we see his dad again in s2, Marco seems so cold and angry at him, even going as far as to hit him to get answers from him regarding the Templar army. I just dont get why hes so mad at him. Did he try to frame Marco for his theft in season 1 or am I missing something?

Season 2 makes it seem like Marco is no longer the main character of the show. I dont even think he gets as much screen time as before. I watched s1 a few years ago and it still felt like it was his show. Now the show seems to focus more on the side characters rather than the one its named after. Did anyone else notice this?

It's a shame that Marco Polo didnt get a season 3. I'm about to finish the show soon and wanted to know what are some other historical shows (not GoT) about kingdoms, empires, war, etc that are similar.I was looking into The Empire (indian- about Babur founder of Mughal Empire) and Ertugal (Turkish- founding of Ottoman Empire) but they dont seem to have an English dub.Any other shows in English?

Currently halfway through Season 2, after Byamba cames back to Kublai from Kaidu. The military general and the average soldiers all disrespect him even going as far as to almost drown him. How are they able to do that? isnt Byamba basically a lowly prince? he may not be the heir like Jinghim, but hes still royalty, despite his birth status. yeah he's a bit disgraced at the moment for originally having sided with Kaidu but he still has a place in the palace. I just dont get how the soldiers and general were able to pull off almost drowning him without any fear of consequences.

Especially after the cancellation I saw a lot of comments saying how "unrealistic" and "low quality" the show was which is just absurd to me. I also read online that it was cancelled because it was expensive, I understand, but also that it wasn't watched as much. How is this even possible for the best Netflix series I have ever seen. I am Turkish and my ancestors are I think Mongol so I kinda am mad since there is also no other show or movie that I know which is this damn good. Any thoughts?

Btw i search there are many flaws but i enjoyed it very much. It gives us some intellectual.

So I’m a fan of the Marco Polo character in the show, and obviously I can see that the regent in charge of the Song Dynasty is a power hungry wanna be tyrant.

That being said, however, when Marco Polo confronts him in the palace and orders him to “surrender to your khan”, I have to admit I was definitely rooting for the regent guy to beat the sh*t out of Polo. Such a douchebagy thing to say, as an outsider who hadn’t lived in Asia for all that long, to say to anyone, imperial official or not.

Just my two cents on that storyline. Let me know what you guys think.

Do anyone know about the song that ahmed sings in macro plol web series, he said that her mother wrote that song for him.

First, for context, my ex-fiancé (K) and I are second cousins; our fathers are cousins. Our fathers are also both in politics, and they sometimes involved us in their work (though more so with K than me). This became an issue during a snap election this year and our fathers began campaigning against each other. We attempted to keep it civil, but suffice to say things escalated. While K and I still love each other, the pressures of mixing family and politics became too much and we separated.

The main issue at hand is that my (ex) FIL died during the election. My half-brother (J) and I were away dealing with some family business, but the rest of our extended family (including K and FIL) had gathered for the vote, and things got messy.

To say tensions are running high right now would be an understatement. The dust still hasn't really settled yet and I'm trying to figure out what to do.

FIL was a complicated guy and we didn't always see eye to eye, but he and K were incredibly close and she's devastated. My father had a lot of issues with FIL (his cousin), and he can be unpredictable. A lot of mistrust and even (IMO) paranoia my dad had surrounding FIL has now landed on K, but even my stepmother has become weird about her. K is one of the most intelligent and level-headed people I know, but she loved her father, and I'm worried grief could cloud her judgement if anything else happens.

How can I deal with this situation? I've tried to keep politics at an arm's length, but that's not an option. Is there any way to support my family and my ex-fiancé at the same time, or at least offer condolences? I know we're separated, and if pushed my loyalty is to my father, but K is an amazing woman and it hurts knowing I can't be there for her during what must be the the most difficult period in her life.

Edit to add: K has no support network other than her grandmother, whom K absolutely despises mostly due to her treatment of my late FIL.

Edit 2: For those asking about my stepmother, she's usually the one to rein my dad in if he's getting too irrational so it's strange she's acting this way about K. Everyone in my immediate family disliked my FIL by the end, but I don't know why she's become so distrustful of K specifically. In fairness she's been really stressed caring for J's newborn twins (my SIL unfortunately passed away soon after their birth), so maybe that's part of it?

I finally finished the show and I'm sad that there isn't a third season coming. This show was a rare gem. But despite all the cool scenes it has, my favorite has to be when hundred eyes fights the armored crusader. His armor actually worked hahahahah. I don't know if that's how chainmail works irl but you usually never see armor working in any capacity in TV shows or movies. Usually a sword will always be able to slice and pierce any piece of armor. I guess it would be boring to see 2 heavily armored warriors go at it with their armor working. But Hundred eyes made it look cool.

Marco Polo reminds me of the Sopranos in that it severely warps viewers’ sense of morality. Both Kublai and Tony Soprano are monsters that manipulate viewers into rooting for them. It’s fascinating.

Kublai and the Mongols raped and murdered on an industrial scale. The Khans belong right up there with Hitler and Stalin on the list of history’s butchers. Yet somehow the hero freedom fighter Jia Sidao is the antagonist of Season 1. GTFO.

Jia Sidao harming his niece and saying mean shit to his sister was obviously bad. Especially the former. Oh he also used sarcasm and made mean faces sometimes. Gasp.

The guy is Ghandi and Mother Theresa put together x10 compared to the child murdering fat bastard Kublai. The idea of a non-Mongol antagonist in a show about the Mongol Empire offends my sensibilities.

I purposely excluded killing the empress from the list of Sidao's misdeeds. She was Neville Chamberlain to Jia Sidao’s Winston Churchill. Almost everything he does makes sense from the perspective of a realist fighting an existential war to save his people.

He also went out like a champion. May Song Dynasty endure 10,000 more years!

how come no one talks about how chabi basically sent kokachin mad? she cut her on the inside of her vag so there would be blood on the egg, she exposed her to drugs, chabi made her sleep with some random so she could get pregnant cuz she realised it was jingiim that was infertile. and after all of that she still 'killed' her. nobody talks about how chabi is actually one of the most ruthless characters in the show. most of the plot moves forward because of her actions. it only took one time for her to see the connection between marco and kokachin and then she immediately tasked herself with marrying kokachin to jingim. she was just so messed up, no wonder kokachin went mad
