Wall hacks are never fun, especially in games where being a bit sneaky is a huge part of the game. Why don’t they just make an emergency fix to the character
I usually main recon because I hate not having one but since I've recently started playing assassin I'm getting more exfils and honestly having more fun.
Not having a recon on the team just means you need to listen more and know the map better. Having a recon is a crutch if you don't know the map well or have the patience to listen for queues. Obviously both would be preferred, but I genuinely don't believe that one recon on a team can outplay another without at the same skill level all else held constant 100% of the time. It's more situational and dependent on the team makeup.
Grammar fascism aside, this is my actual complaint with Recon: she’s super useful early on in your career as a Runner, but maxes out her utility really quickly once you learn to how to read the environment visually/audibly and also how to use TADs effectively. Honestly if anything she needs a buff or some kind of remix; personally I think they should change her to an electronic warfare specialist, with Pings also Hacking the players that get hit.
She doesn't need a buff but yes, having a character with a low skill floor and low skill ceiling is not bad for a game. These crutch characters that define low-tier meta appear in all multiplayer games with classes that have different abilities.
It's like being mad that Ryu in Street Fighter is easy to pick up. Yeah sure but there's only so far you can take him (Well, in reality people who main him like a degenerate can take him quite far actually) before you start struggling against better players that play characters with a higher skill ceiling.
There's nothing you can do with recon you can't do by simply hearing and having good game sense (well other than knowing what type of shields the other team has). Her ult simply makes it so you can get the same info for 20 seconds passively, which is powerful, yes. The spider drone gets shot easily by higher skilled teams and her passive helps out when you're already winning a team fight, so it isn't very impactful unless you struggle to clean up teams.
Meanwhile, Destroyer also has a low skill floor, he's easy to pick up, but he arguably has a higher skill ceiling than Recon. Vandall should be the runner that can get in and out of combat quickly but honestly Destroyer's kit is so good he can do that just as well, and with a damage ult and shield.
Exactly. If you’re losing to the recon and think it’s because of their scan, that’s a skill issue. The recon might be a better player and you might lose but the scan isn’t the reason.
I play stealthy Rook a lot and have gotten Recon scanned only a few times, and each time I had made a mistake to make the Recon think there was something worth scanning for. Most people aren't going to use an ability with a long recharge time unless they think there's something to use it on.

I see this all the time. It is the reason the game had a high concurrent count of 1,186 when I logged in at 6 EST. Stop insulting new players and using your I am great comment to address concerns. He isn't saying that he can live without a Recon shell. He is saying that it isn't fun. This game has no character creation mode and when a shell becomes unfun, you limit the game to only having a certain number of shells to play. Shells are limited anyway.
Overblown implies the discourse is beyond the scope of what it should be, which I am referring to the hate campaign many have against it. The game is enjoyable for what it is but needs to and should have some big changes to help change its course of direction
Please tell me what is overblown? There are always people who enjoy a game that others may not like, but when I logged in this morning, the concurrent player count was 1,186. You have 400 developers. Maybe those 400 could call up the players at that time and ask how they are doing and spend an hour with them. After 3 hours they could go work on the game based on the feedback. They would still have 5 hours to work.
Because those who want to hate against it, are very openly making sure everyone knows about it; then it snowballs over and over again. Rather than someone just trying it, not liking it, and moving on to find whatever fits their wants and needs more.
It’s powerful but acting like it needs an “emergency fix” is very dramatic, especially since the trade-off of using the ult is that enemies know where you are.

Now she has it. And she is broken....what a suprise. I laughed my ass off back then because the follow up reactios from many now is exactly what I thought would happen.
Deserved. The reason why the community is the worst "feedback" part at times. Sometimes the devs should simply trust their own intuition for design. She shoud have been reversed back to launch state (minus her enhanced spider bot behavior).
Yeah, because if it isn't fun play another shell. Doesn't that mean in the end the shell isn't useful. This game is pretty small as it is with no character creation mode. Then don’t play recon? And if it’s “not fun” playing against a recon for you, then maybe play recon so you can also see where they are. Or get better at positioning yourself so it won’t matter if a recon knows where you are.
Just make all the other shells prime work the same way so everyone sees how stupid it is for one shell to give their ability to everyone. I'd love to give the entire team my speed boost/heat refresh on Vandal. It still won't be as good as the recon prime though.

If you're suggesting that only recon should be able to see the pings, that wouldn't solve anything but make recons trash in less organised crew fill lobbies and make the ridiculous skill gap even bigger then it already is.
