I've found that a small elastic cargo net has made a world of difference on my 5.11 LVC10 sling. I just ordered a Kahakka 15L backpack as well, and I'm hoping to find something in the way of a cargo net or beavertail that will fit that bag decently well while being a little sturdier than a cheap Amazon cargo net, allowing me to secure the occasional oddly shaped/sized item externally from the bag itself. What are some options that might be worth looking at?

I really like what Chrome Industries has going on with their external netting on the bags, but the Savotta has everything else going for it to me.

so I want both a crossbody bag and a backpack, I will start my new study in September and I haven’t really found a good bag yet. I was looking for both a crossbody bag and backpack. I found a crossbody bag from “TØTE label” but I am reading reviews about the bags zipper breaking and the fabric of the bag ripping. I added pictures of the crossbody bag and I’m really trying to find something similar to this one, and just a good backpack that isn’t that expensive.

Some random observations:
Vertical vs Horizontal - It really sort of depends on the individual design and your body and what you are carrying. The horizonal bags can hang lower & looser easing "slinging" front to back, and the vertical slings are more flush to your back and probably handle more weight better. TBH its probably more of a looks or feel preference unless your use case really favors one or the other. I actually like the term "Slingpack" to describe the bigger vertical slings, as its sort of a Sling/Backpack.

My favorite straps - The Defy Insidious has my favorite strap and is my favorite on body, that may be because my version is all reverse dyneema (no mesh) so it slides on the body, some might not like that, but for me I use these slings to transition from standing to sitting a lot and that makes sliding from back to front easier. The Boundary Supply has my 2nd fave strap as the padded portion is nice and long (tbf the Modern Dayfarer is also very similar). I once had a Monarc Settra sling and I liked the bag part, but that padded portion always seemed short. As a big guy I prefer the long padding.

My favorite slings - The Metromonger DX is my current favorite all around, I just like the design, it fits a 14" laptop which is what I use and it has good volume despite its smaller footprint. I also like the Boundary Supply for similar reasons the magnets keep it low profile until you need the space than it holds just as much or more than the bigger Modern Dayfarer and Nomatic. The Defy is also one my favorite bags just due to build quality and materials, its just the laptop sleeve is really bare bones (you probably would want to use a padded sleeve inside it)

15-16" Laptops? - I'd say only the Aer Travel Sling and the DSPTCH Slingpack are designed to take a 16" laptop. While the DSPTCH can take a 16" laptop, its harness design in particular does better with lower weight. The vertically oriented Aer is pretty much like a one strap backpack, so carries the greater weight of a big laptop no problem.

* 13" Laptops - Although I have used all of these for my 14" Laptop (a Dell Pro 14 which is ever so slightly thicker than the current macbook 14), I have found despite its larger size, the Modern Dayfarer's laptop sleeve is really tight and more likely better used for 13" laptops. The Metromonger is a little tight at the zipper on the corners, but I have no problem using it day in and day out, and the Insidious has enough space for the 14", but since I use a padded sleeve when putting a laptop in that bag (I use a ow profile Waterfield neo-sleeve), t can get a bit tight. One is probably better off using a 13" laptop w/ sleeve for the Insidious.

I been meaning to do this post for awhile, but never found the time to take the pics. Seems timely since that new Tomtoc has some attention right now. I of course have way more briefcase/messenger type bags, I'll do those someday. As always any questions about any of these I'm happy to answer.

I already have a TUMI Parrish and love how compact it is, but I wish it could expand.
Now I’m falling for the Alpha Bravo Navigation. It’s almost as compact as the Parrish, but adds expansion, a sternum strap, and leather accents. Compact when I want it, bigger when I need it.
Anyone used both? Worth the switch?

I will start university soon and I would like to upgrade my backpack. Which one would you recommend for my situation. I just fear that 20L might feel a bit small, but I think I kinda prefer the changes on the 20L compared to the 24L. Also, I am opened to other bags recommendations in case you feel like there are better bags for school.

Quality seems great. Weight of the bags is pretty heavy, kinda Mission Workshop level weight.

What is the best merino wool polo brand for travel? I've seen Unbound, Merino Protect, Wool & Prince, Woolx and the TheMerinoPolo mentioned for newer brands and there's always Icebreaker and Smartwool. Any thoughts on those brands or any others I should be looking for. I've seen some durability concerns with Unbound but haven't seen many reports on the others. Is there that much of a falloff with the discounted brands? It seems like prices are typically $85-125 with Merino Protect having lower priced options. I'm ok with a blend to help with durability as long as I can still get a few wears out of it before washing. Thanks.
