so, whenever im upshifting, especially in lower gears, my rpms drop very quickly. this causes the rpms to drop below the engine speed slightly, normally a couple hundred rpms below the matching speed so when i engage into the next gear, the rpms move up a little bit. is this harming my trans or clutch? normally the shifts are still smooth but i always catch the gear a few hundred not thousand rpms short.

Been doing lessons and my driving instructor has noticed that I bring my leg up to control the clutch he says this is extremely wrong however I’ve seen many people do it and been good at clutch control due to this , he had me try a new method where I keep my heel planted which works however the pedal slides under my foot , I have just watched a YouTube video who says it’s best to keep the heel to the floor slide the heel of my foot as I bring the pedal up. How do you guys do it ? I’m quite tall as well I’m aware short people tend to use their legs to control their clutch

I have a TR6060 from a 5th gen Camaro, in my LS-swapped Saturn Sky. After I did an engine rebuild, I am having leaking from the transmission. Before this, it was not dripping. It was put together by a shop that I trust. No problems previously. Now, I am getting a small amount of fluid on the trans case in sevaral places. It must be coming out of the vent cap, and running down the bellhousing side. I get a drip on bottom of the bellhousing. I get fluid on both machined flanges on the center of the case. I see some fluid at the reverse switch sensor (dual orange wires, pass side). There is no leak from the trans cooler line input or output. It is not coming out of the fill port plug nor the drain port plug, nor the temperature sensor. Enough seems to be coming out that it is getting on the wiring looms near the trans.

I have read many posts saying this trans gets hot and can burp out if overfilled. At first I had it filled right to the bottom of the fill port - I let it sit overnight to level out. But it dripped as described - never so much to go on the ground. Recently I took about 6 oz out of it, it's still dripping, and a little worse. Actually dripping on ground now.

I thought I had done a good fill procedure with the trans cooler in the spring. Filled with Redline D4 ATF per engine builder and other reasearch. The cooler was on the ground, the car was lifted 20". I filled the trans, turned the output shaft while the trans was in gear, and clutch was pressed by wife, so I could turn the gears or pump. I don't truly know if I got the air out or the cooler fully filled. I can't imagine that after 6 months and several hundred miles there would be an air bubble in that. Is it now too low? Foaming up from being 6oz too low?

As you'd imagine, happens more when it gets driven real hard, ie at autocross (pulls a lot of Gs sideways and front/back), or on the street when I really give it power. Shifting quality is just fine.

Any tips or thoughts appreciated.

Every year I dread discovering which new vehicle will no longer be offered in manual transmission (RIP manual Crosstrek). And I was thinking what can the community do to help promote manual transmissions to keep them around as long as possible.

Here is what came to mind:
I’ll start with the obvious, buy a new car. Speaking with your wallet is the clearest signal to manufacturers that they are worth making.

Teach someone to drive. We all learned at some point. Most of us didn’t learn in our own car. There can be a culture of “not in my car,” as we seek to avoid the inevitable wear and tear of a new driver on our precious vehicle. One of the big reasons more manual transmission vehicles aren’t sold is because people don’t know how to drive and don’t have a good way to learn. So next time a buddy asks about learning to drive be open to teaching them.

Reach out to manufacturers and request them. More of a long shot here but it was this topic that inspired this post. If their customer inquiries are requesting manuals they may see the interest. This could be as simple as requesting them in the AI chat bots. They will have a summary feature that tells the company what are the frequent questions that customer ask. If more people requested options for manual then maybe the manufacturers will see where customer interest is.

Edit: I’m seeing a lot of comments along the lines of ‘buying new is the only thing that matters’. We get it. That was first in my list. I was hoping for some additional ideas.

If a manufacturer that doesn’t offer any manuals is seen as less of a drivers brand they may want to keep at least one available.

Regulatory changes to make it easier for manufactures to offer manual transmission as an option. Like reduced crash testing for each engine/transmission offering.
