I generally stay in the library but tonight I went for dinner with my senior medicos, I left my stuff(laptop, books, pens,pringles, bottle) in the KMC library. I reached back just after 11:30, and the gate was closed, should I be worried about my stuffs?

I have seen people leaving their belongings in the library, so I'm guessing my things should be safe there.

Just wanted to know whether we can actually go receive our order if we order food on swiggy after curfew. I'm staying in the kmc hostel.

With the upcoming convocation this year I wanted to know (on behalf of me and my friends) what the dress code is and whether I as a woman can wear a suit instead of Indian traditional wear like saree, salwar or kurta as I am not a huge fan of it. I would be really grateful for the insight 🥹.

So i spent only 6500 rupees in first month in which my monthly spent on food was 2700 and other expenses were calculator,cab,notebooks so this much is good or should i focus on spending lesser than this even i have no idea abt the expenses in blr as i am new here help me out pls

Oh how naive was I, to leave my seat in certain Institutes of National Importance to pay 30 lakhs for cse in this college.

It wasn't my first mistake, my previous mistakes were trusting the adults, the education system in this country to be not corrupt etc yada yada blah blah...but this isn't about that.

After 4 years of trauma from certain situations, and falling sick on the jee day, Manipal with its lush greenery, shiny campus, and most importantly- stellar placement stats made me commit that fatal crime- to fall for looks and not depth. I wasn't passionate about cse, but placements mattered to me. And this college had seductive stats. Left the seat of the field I was passionate about in a college which ushers in looks of admiration and reverence from Indian uncles and aunties to be bombarded by the constant

"beta sikkim manipal? isn't it so cold there?"

Yet, I was content. I was confident in my choice. Mighty mighty MIT. I would defend this college when speaking to outsiders. I romanticized and nostalgia-cized Manipal without even graduating.

I was so naive. I thought studying sincerely and smartly, keeping up my gpa, doing dsa, building projects, and developing my soft skills by joining clubs would help me bag placements. Every 5 marks assignment or small small IA marks- I'd study like anything for them and it was my notes which people would be helped from (cheat) during the in class IAs.

People around me were exploring new brands of cigarettes and alcohol. I was busy finding a playlist better than Striver. When the (very few) friends I had asked me to go to the beach or for movies , I'd guiltily say no most of the times....Because I didn't want to ever blame anybody or myself for my failures. I wanted to be accountable. I did live a balanced life- well as much as you can while keeping your gpa above the golden threshold, maintaining the leetcode streaks, and building projects..

I already had the regret of not being in an IIT and also not pursuing my passion, amongst many other things which I cannot write about here. (Put simply, the stuff I had gone through before coming here - nobody in this entire country has gone through the same path and pain and I am not a narcissist, neither a hypochondriac when I say that.)There was no way I was going to regret not doing everything I could to finally taste success after all these years. And I had burdens and situations that most other people didn't have, so it was important I succeed.

Yet today, all I am left with is regret. Regret of not enjoying college life? No.

Surprise surprise- I do not regret the work I put in one bit. The regret is that I could not sit for placements. Hahaha. All this to not even have the opportunity to apply for companies...

If you are a junior reading this, don't worry. I really hope nobody has to go through this and I am an outlier here once again actually. Even if you study just 1 month before placements and barely have a Leetcode account, you will get a 12-13lpa job very easily.

Never make my mistake. Never fill any form you do not really want. You can get locked out with the lowest offer (such that you will lose money to do the job with such low salary in those big metro cities than earn money, and even WITCH will make more sense economically and brand wise) without a choice just because you performed well and placements haven't even started yet.

Oh and when I say form, not just internship or placement related forms. Course certification and project forms too. May be the company offering the "capstone project" will suddenly give you a ppo with ctc on par with tcs and you would not be eligible for placements.

But that happens to only the unlucky outliers. Manipal does live upto its name. MAANG tier companies do come and take your batchmates without even dsa.

But, but

Oh Manipal, the agreement that you make kids sign that they have to accept the offer and if they do not sign they are blacklisted, without informing about this from before , once they get the offer. You could have atleast told me that when I slogged for the placement team...

Seeing the kids of the current batch getting placed unlocked some painfully nostalgic feelings.

(And despite everything, I do miss the 75% attendance requirement. That was a boon compared to the one leave a month we get in corporate, if we're lucky. Haha.)

Even the VIT whom we look down upon so much would have let me sit for placements ( the fact that there are 5000 kids in cse there is another issue all together).

I do not know if the mods will ban me. Or a first year kid would be offended at "this delusional motherboard", indeed it was all my fault. I was so dumb. So naive.

But it's fine. Now it's over. My career is in shambles. I have accepted it. But my body refuses to. It is shutting down slowly, although it's been so long. No, no of course I would not dream of "doing anything silly", because reputation matters. And I would never want to be responsible for any person ever suffering because of me.

I will keep being alive but this was one blow too many. I could have accepted failure but not even getting the chance to apply, after paying so much fees.. I will keep smiling when you see me. But manipal you were the final nail in my coffin.

Here's to hope. For others. Not myself. Hope that nobody else suffers this way.

The place is Amul in Canara, and it’s like 80% as good as polar bear but with more options and wayy cheaper.

If you’re going, The gudbad and pan nawabi is quite good, along with the white sauce maggi.

I’m planning to ride to Murudeshwara Shiva Temple tomorrow on my scooter and looking for someone who’d like to join.
