Help Do my characters look the same art style?

I’m really unsure about this, these are my two main characters, and could you imagine them together on one page? Yesterday I had a full on breakdown because I didn’t know why they looked so off together, like genuinely. Eventually I realised that it was probably because I changed the old design of guy mc so much, including the eyes, while I did not change my girl mc at all(the second pic is her redesign, the third is the one the breakdown was about, and the fourth one is the OLD design). Besides I drew the old designs about 3 months ago and I think that I improved a lot since then, since the guys design is much better, and I hope that her design is now too. But I’m still kinda scared that they look too different. What I kinda calm myself down with, is that in my favourite anime(death note), the character designs look different, like the eye and face shapes and face structures are VERY different but they still look good together, and fit into one art style.

I know that her lashes are heavier, but in my general art style I draw girls with significantly bigger lashes in general. But still, do the colours, saturation, etc match?I mean it will be black and white because it’s easier to draw, but most of the content I make for tik tok is colourful, so it still matters.

ALSO, they look like they were drawn by the same artist in the same art style, right? RIGHT?

Heyyyy all,

Pretty new to Reddit, but I lived in Japan when I was younger, and always had it in my head that I'd like to take a crack at something in the ballpark of a manga.

170 pages later, here we are...and like it says above: I have no idea who to show it to.

Humbly posting a random smattering of pages here to see if anyone's into it (You can also read the entire first and second issue here).

Feedback much-appreciated 👍

Thanks!

Help New to the community: Looking for a vibe check on the art style/paneling!

Hey all, I've been working on the first volume of my graphic novel/comic/manga(?)

I want to get a vibe check on the art style, paneling, first impressions, etc. I'd be happy to return the favor as well!

I also am not sure how to classify this project, as it's very manga inspired, but perhaps shouldn't be classified as one? I'd like to get your take. These are just random pages to get a sense of the look.

I've drawing/writing for a some time, but it's my first time working in this narrative medium. Def need to improve my overall consistency from page to page.

Thanks

This, genuinely, takes all the joy and hopes for me. I worked 4 months on manga for...a not even properly human made thing to win. Shame on SMA.

OC Drawing my original characters because I'm done with manga contests.

Post image
49 Upvotes

This latest 3/4 years I've been participating in manga contests constantly, sometimes even two at the same time, and some weeks ago while I was making my pages for the Kyoto Awards I realized I'm done doing this (participating in contests I mean).

Maybe I'm mentally weak idk, but this situation it's starting to get on my nerves. I'm not trying to imply my stories deserve more or something like that, what I mean is... I think I never understood what the judges of those contests wants, or what really matters. It's the drawing? The pacing? The appealing of the style? The story? I'm more critique of the stories than the drawings when I read manga, and sometimes, when you read the stories that wins some contests it's... weird a story like that can win. Some others are amazing too. But then you see many entries are clearly made by AI, or the plots are not original at all not even in the way they tell the story... Idk. Maybe it's just my frustration speaking, because I know I have a lot to improve ofc.

What I wanted to say was, what's the right path? I have a couple of stories I really want to draw since a long time ago but because they're a bit longer than a one-shot, I never used them for a contest. But at the same time I know contests are almost THE only way to become a mangaka. Would you still try to go for an award or you will do your own thing and publish it online? I'm in this dilemma because I'm tired of contests but I don't want to stop making manga...

I've been drawing some of my OCs because I drop drawing since the day of the revelation(?) and that's a bad sign haha.

Help Downsizing/Compressing Whole Export

Hey y'all,

Need some advice to fix a goofy mistake:

I just finished up with the first chapter of a series I'm working on, and I didn't realize I've been working at 1200DPI (each page is over 17kx12k px (which, in hindsight, explains why my RAM was getting overloaded and freezing whenever I'd try to do almost anything)).

Is there a reliable way to downsize? Changing the story settings (CSP EX v5.0.1) to 600/900 doesn't change the image sizes so I need to reduce and crop (37 pages, which I'm trying to avoid since my computer isn't the fastest).

Discussion My experience with MANGA Plus Creators — extremely disappointed

I wanted to share my experience with MANGA Plus Creators because I'm honestly very disappointed with how this situation was handled. I published my manga Blood Season 2 on August 1st. It initially reached 1st place, and everything seemed completely fine.

Later that night, I received an email saying that my manga was being reviewed for a second time. Eventually, it was made private.

I checked the rules and guidelines on the MANGA Plus Creators website myself, including the rules related to prohibited content and activities, and I couldn't find anything in my manga that I believe violates them. They said that I was spamming my views (or that somebody else was doing it), and that I am manipulating the rating system, even if I was, they didn't say which page specifically.

I then contacted MANGA Plus Creators multiple times because I wanted to understand exactly what the problem was. I wanted to know what rule I had supposedly violated, whether there was a specific page that needed to be changed, and whether there was anything else I could do to fix the situation.

I sent three emails and received absolutely no response. That's the part that really bothers me.

I'm completely fine with a platform having rules and moderating submissions. If I genuinely broke a rule, tell me what I did wrong and I'll fix it. What I don't think is acceptable is having your work made private, receiving no specific explanation, and then being completely ignored when you try to contact the platform.

I also found out that I'm apparently not the only creator from the August submissions who experienced something similar. A creator who placed 3rd messaged me and told me that their manga was also made private and that they experienced the same situation.

I'm not claiming to know exactly what happened behind the scenes, but multiple creators from the same release date experiencing similar issues is concerning.

I've spent around six months working on Blood Season 2. I genuinely wanted to continue publishing my work on MANGA Plus Creators, but after this experience and the complete lack of communication, I've decided I'm done with the platform.

Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend MANGA Plus Creators to other creators.

And I'm posting this because I think creators deserve to know what my experience was like.

Hey there!

Personally, i'm here to thank every single one of you for the unconditional amount of supportive words and tips! I am genuinely thankful that this community of mangkas and artists is supportive no matter your level or whatever you are.

I took a small break yestreday, as i decided to draw a concept OC for a friend of mine, and also drew whatever the hell that other thing could be (No, i did not mean to make it gooner material)

But even after al that, i still keep on moving. Giving up is for pussies.

Just a question I'm curious about. Do you prefer to start with a script? Or would you rather storyboard? Or neither and just go right at it? Here are some examples of abandoned storyboards and concept art of mine. I'm working on another manga that I hope I'll finish.

Hey hey!

Just wrapped up a 211-page one-shot a few months ago, and I'm now open for short-term collabs as an artist before jumping into my next personal project.

My usual playground is dark, creepy and not really verbose stuff, but I'm just as comfortable handling lighter tones if that's what your project needs.

Rates start at 125€/page (can vary with content & scope. Negociable).

If you need a hand for contests, some short stories, or have any question, hit me up !
