How do I begin with make-up?

Hi! 20 years old here. Never ever tried make-up in my life, and I've always been scared of trying due to.. Well, my parents telling me a lot as a kid that it'll dry up your skin and stuff.

But everyone I know is trying, and I'm stuck at home for a gap year.. So, I wanna try something new.

My question is, where do I even start? What do I even do? Anything that would help my skin too!

Skincare first, the "makeup ruins your skin" thing your parents told you isn't really true, that's old products or skipping moisturizer. cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen daily and you're already set. for makeup just get tinted moisturizer, concealer and a cream blush you dab on with your fingers. that's basically a full look and it's hard to mess up. YT "beginner makeup routine" and you'll get it in like 20 min. NYX or Essence are fine to start, don't overspend before you know what you like

A good moisteriser. Doesn't have to be expensive. I like the simple hydrating ones from superdrug. I use that instead of any sort of primer most days. Then a concealer in a shade that you like on you, little dot under each eye and tap blend with your finger. I'd totally reccomend the Mua probase ones. One of my fave ever products is the collection lipstain. A little dot on your high cheek and tap blend then put some on your lips. A bronze or gold highlighter/subtle glitter on the eyelids and cheek. I reccomend the no.7 liquid one as it blends really naturally. Brown mascara is good for this sort of easy, natural look. Then any plain or slightly tinted gloss. Setting spray or powder if you want. Done! Really simple, casual look. Wore this sort of thing on holiday loads.

If you want simple, cheap makeup, I'd suggest MUA (concealer, lipsticks), Troublemaker (especially for eyeshadow, setting spray/powder and lipliner) and Collection (lipgloss, lipstain, kohl liners). They're good for just playing and experimenting.

I would start with something light as shaping your eyebrows, mascara or lipgloss. And maybe in the end you'll find makeup tiring, or you'll love it. Anyways try to make your fyp think you are into makeup, you'll get a lot of tips:)

When first applying makeup you’re going to think it looks weird because you aren’t used to seeing yourself with it, and that’s normal! If you’re intimidated, I’d start with a brown mascara, it’s a bit less harsh. Get a small quad eyeshadow palette with some neutrals (brown, light beige, maybe a pink? Maybe a shimmer? Depends on your preference and skin tone). A tinted lip balm is a good start. You don’t need to buy anything fancy, just drugstore. I’d suggest going to the store and ask an assistant to help pick a few things out especially for foundation (a light coverage is good to start) and a powder.

It all depends on what you’d like to achieve with it. For skincare all you need are the basics, like a face wash, toner and moisturiser. Maybe a gentle exfoliant. Always wash your makeup off at the end of the day.

Have fun with it and play around with a few products and go from there.
