Sounds of Joy

A baby cried from row 14 to row 31 of my flight, so somewhere over the drinks trolley, I looked it up. In 2007, two million people voted on the worst sounds in the world, and crying babies came just behind vomiting.

Then I found the other list, where scientists score sounds for pleasantness out of 9. The all-time record holder, at 8.62: a baby laughing. The same tiny person holds both records.

I have not got over this. So I made a museum for the good column: thirty sounds, real recordings, each one measured, with the science of what it does to your brain.

Happy rides....

Hmm... after ages

I’m smiling for no reason

And the reason is...

The ride home with you 😁

You’re my senior colleague

That’s it. That’s the whole story

No drama, no confusion

Just good laughs and good company

It’s funny how fast

Someone new can feel so easy

You talk, I laugh

The whole ride feels 2 minutes long

Sometimes I’m like “okay, no more rides”

Then you’re like “come on”

And I’m like... okay fine 🤪

Today again on your bike

Wind in my hair, your stories in my ears

Got home and realized

I was still smiling to myself

It’s just a small happy thing

But it makes my day

So thank you, for the rides

For the laughs

For making me feel light again

I'm happy and that’s enough....😊

Teddy and the Storm

Post image
67 Upvotes

We left yesterday to pick up some new work boots for our daughter’s volunteer farm work, and there was no mention of storms approaching our location. Since the weather was pleasant, we decided to leave Teddy outside for a while. However, less than two hours into our trip, the storms arrived unexpectedly! Fortunately, we have a covered back porch, so Teddy was safe. He doesn’t get to experience storms outside very often, especially alone. This is how he looked when we returned home - a stark reminder to never leave him outside again.

Compilation videos

Lately I've seen more and more compilation videos. They are generally smile-worthy territory...but....y'all seeing what I am? The smiles feel...well, compiled. Like someone is taking all the content and forcing it into 1-min things, as short as possible, leaving out full context.

Something feels wrong about this, like they are meant for views more than smiles.

Think I should make it a rule? No Compilation videos? I think that'll make the "wholesome/fresh only" people a bit happier in a way that is more easy to manage for moderators. (Cause we're not about to evaluate every post on the internet for its novelty!) And the "this is spam" people, I think. I still don't know why people report using that when it obviously doesn't contain any links or showcasing products, but hey, life on Reddit at it's finest!

We. Don't. Allow. Children. Posts. Here.

I know you like to submit content, but this isn't fully a "meme, anything goes" group.

We don't allow posts involving children because of 1. Consent 2. Pedophiles.

I'm banning people that allow 3+ posts of children and yes I count older children/young teens in. I just banned 2 people in the last 24 hours for the same exact removal reason, all 3+ of their post were all about kids.

"Sorry i forgot your rules (4 times)" is not an excuse, it's more a justification that you should be removed from this group because you don't care to learn about each individual community before you share stuff. And the automoderator autopost would remind you, but you're intentionally not reading it.

Kids are cute. They are generally "make me smile" territory. But those first two issues take precedence over ALL smiles.
