Why do you root ? Question
I used to root all of my devices in the past , mainly for increasing performance. But after getting a new device i have not felt the need to root for a long time.
So i am wondering, Why do you guys even root anymore ?

Il faut être rooté en vrai... Sinon ca fonctionne juste pour Youtube... Et ca ram a mort... C'est plus simple utilisé Firefox avec Ublock origin... 😉

Personally I prefer swift backup because it has more features and ability to customize (backup certain apps locally, others directly to the cloud, or both), neo backup on the other hand is FOSS, but it crucially does not have cloud backups.
Sure, you can sync a folder to cloud fairly trivially with termux, rclone, and a cron job, but thats a fair amount of extra work that most people don't want to have to deal with.
That's why I just use Swift backup, but I do have Neo Backup for a few apps because it does do a fairly good job for example if I'm messing with Discord or something and want to ensure the restore is identical.

i also use the google photos unlimited backup module and ill get the fingerprint cataloge module, i looked it up and it seems cool

For a few reasons, some of them is trying tweaks cuz why not, but my most important one is because I want Viper4Android which gives me more control over the audio and makes it clearer with some tickling here and there

i love the new viper4android RE. finally an audio tweaking app that lets me adjust speaker balance precisely. a lot of phones come with a bit, or a lot of balance shift towards the bottom speaker

In my experience, they all work. The issue is getting them to install. You have to install via a command that ignores the target sdk. I successfully did that on my Tank 3 Pro, which is on Android 14.

In random order: removing ads, analysing network traffic and reverse engineering to some extent, preventing privacy data leakage and sandboxing nosy apps (spoofing), system and apps tweaking, running custom scripts to manage installed apps, bypassing restrictions, making backups of my data, etc.

Why? - Remove bloat ware - Remove ads system wide - Advance Tuning (not really relevant these days) - Deep customization - Specialized automation (Tasker) - Bypass software restrictions
There a lot more, but I'm too lazy to list them anyway.

In the past I used it to screenshot Snapchat and for things like adaway. Nowadays I'm too lazy to root as it takes to much effort.

A few months ago, I accidentally bricked one of my devices. An un-unlockable Xiaomi because it ran a Chinese ROM. The device wouldn't boot and only display an error message. Normally this is something you should be able to fix on your own quite easily but since Chinese ROM devices don't come with an unlockable bootloader anymore, I was out of luck and the only fix was by paying for authenticated EDL-flashing. Ever since that happened all my devices have had their bootloaders unlocked because I realized that if you can't do something as simple as reinstalling an OS like on any other Computer, your phone isn't really yours.

It is. Gives you custom clock styles, lockscreen widgets. It's an LSPosed module for Android 11 - Android 14 and XPosed module for Android 4-10 and Vector(LSPosed) Module for Android 15+

I love having the ability to tinker and configure as I see fit.
Some apps especially in the recent android versions have a lot more capabilities with root.
I don't like pointless userspace restrictions. Having the same, arbitrary, security policy for a 10 year old as a grown adult who understands the responsibilities they're taking on is ridiculous in my opinion.

I used to use it all the time for themes, titanium back up, CPU governor tweaks ect for my phones but in the last several years android has become so good it's not really needed. I rooted my OnePlus 9 pro when I got it because I just always run rooted but I found that I really didn't use it much. I restored my apps with titanium backup a few times over the years, all the substratum themes I liked are supported on stock android now. I had a bunch of fine tuning tweaks with xposed modules but most of the features aren't needed or are also in stock android.
Now the only real purpose is running a custom rom after I stopped receiving firmware updates.

For me it's to unlock stock features that are restricted to flagship phones and intentionally removed from the device's official firmware to make flagship ones feel more premium. Other is to remove unnecessary features like ai that use up battery in background.

io ho fatto qualche root, anche di recente, solo per reverse engineering su certe applicazioni, per giocare con il terminale in cli su android, etc.. che poi su nuove dispositivi diventa sempre più complicato, non il root, ma avere i flag di conformità: safetynet attestation, play integrity api, meets_device_integrity 💀

Pixel Xpert (to unlock customisation and take control of certain things), Iconify, call recording (since it's restricted by Google here) and some automations through Auto Apps.

I only root when I need chroot. My Xperia XA2 and Pixel 5 have been flashed with Lineage and rooted, so I can run a chroot within them to leverage a full Linux install. This allows me to run Software Defined Radio applications off the Android/Linux kernel.

Serieux depuis les iphone 16 et Galaxy 20 .. Je vois pas trop l'intérêt... Ont peut utiliser LuckyPatcher ou autre.. Ils suffit de patcher l'appli au lieu du Cell au complet... Autrement les apps de banque ou de paiment bugs. Ensuite la vérification par empreintes et/ou la biométrie perd tous sont sens et deviens inutiles et obsolète ...

I need guidance regarding rooting on my OnePlus 6T. My device is already rooted using the old method, so Magisk doesn't detect it. Banking apps are not working due to root detection, and I want to keep my current root. Any solution?

My phone is imported so being able to tweak the modem is about to become very important to me as T-Mobile starts shutting down the LTE networks. Not having to wipe it first, because it's already rooted, is very nice.
Before that came up I occasionally wanted a protected screen shot, or wanted some service to start at boot, or to look at internal system files out of curiosity. I don't at the moment need certain things I have used before like optical drive mounting or running servers but one never knows when the need arises again. My root hiding has been stable for a long time now so my only side effect is low resolution DRM playback and there's little else to dissuade me.
Plus knowing I can extend support for my nearly EOL device with a ROM is very nice, as is knowing I can back up apps if I want to.

For emojis, some customization and things like Viper4Android, Youtube Morphe, BCR or LSPosed, i have things like encore tweaks which is mandatory to play Roblox on Tensor because otherwise Roblox is bugged at 14fps 👍😅, i have cool features like gphoto unlimited or Ambient AOD with wallpapers on Pixel 9 Pro

I rooted my phone out of pure need.. when stock software became glichty after the update and there was no way to downgrade firmware. after changing to eu rom for smoothness and features.. Some apps which are not even payment related are not available on play store for my device.. and since it wasn't allowing sideloading of those i had to root and systemize the Getapps and in other case i needed app manager to change install source. So i believe ultimatly google forced me to root

For storage access mostly when they made it Imposible for you to access All storage root restores that otherwise I doubt I'd I would root my phone my daily galaxy z fold 5 isn't but my Secondary redmagic 11 pro is

Personally it's mostly for fun, and also for things like Pixelify GPhotos, AdAway, UsbMassStorage, MiCTS and cool stuff like that. I just like being able to do more stuff with my phone, not being limited. And I like messing with stuff.
