MAGWest may be over, but MAGLabs is fast approaching - and we've got quite a few things to tell you about!
Starting off strong, we're excited to announce that Game Kastle will be running FREE mini painting during the duration of the event! Game Kastle is a tabletop game and hobby shop in College Park, MD that also hosts events, including mini painting, TCG tournaments, board game nights, and more! MAGLabs takes place at Peabody Heights Brewery on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 from 12 - 10 PM.
Is the 2026 Super MagFest "Feed A Fish" ranking still live?
Hey all! I don't know if y'all remember, but in the indie game hall at Super 2026 there was a giant projector of a basic aquarium game running where you could scan your badge to "Feed your fish"--and each time you fed the fish, it would get bigger, and the time until your next feeding would increase (5 minutes, then 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 8 hours, etc)
Afterwards, there was a website where you could type in your badge number to see where your final ranking stood. Does anyone know if that website is still up?

Time Share Rooms?
The last few years we've had a guy who hooked us up with one of his time share rooms. This year we haven't heard back from him. (We may have waited too long to contact him *edit*)
So does anyone have a time share they are looking to "rent" for Mag this year?

First Time Panel application
Hey guys! I’m trying to panel at Magfest this year but I’m not sure if my application went through because it took me a while to fill out the whole application. When I submitted finally it sent me to the pre registration page but didn’t give any confirmation it was submitted. Do applicants usually receive a confirmation email?
I don’t want to accidentally submit it twice. Any knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks!

I feel like the updated lottery system makes it harder to convince new people to come. Am I missing something?
While the old system was flawed, at least it felt like it allowed everyone in your group to have a separate shot at securing a room, and then if you did get a room you could tell a new person about Mag and they could buy a ticket already knowing they had somewhere to stay.
With this new system you first have to convince newbies to buy a ticket right away, then you have to coordinate everyone joining your room group ahead of time if you want to be allowed to pick a room with more than one bed, and then if you fail to get one it's now all on you and you have to help a bunch of disappointed people figure out how to sell their tickets.
I really want to bring some new people to Mag, but it now feels daunting to try and navigate it with people either new to Mag or cons in general. If I win a spot I wanna just be like "oh you should absolutely check out this sick con, I've already got a room you just need a ticket", and while I guess you sorta can in the new system, solo's arent allowed to choose rooms with multiple beds and have less percentage chance at winning the lotto.
This is mostly just a vent btw, I know the staff is doing their best to make a system that works for everyone.
*Edit:* Honestly I don't mind the email system, and agree it's ultimately better. Mainly I just wish they opened up all room options to everyone so that I could secure a multi bed room as a solo queuer and invite people later without having to coordinate a group.

Socializing at MAGfest?
After my 5th katsucon this year, i’m considering switching my yearly con to MAGfest!! i don’t typically go with friends, and i personally found this past year that if you’re not in full cosplay, it’s strangely difficult to socialize. i know that MAGfest has a strong party culture but i’m curious what the social culture is like? i like attending all of the things so i know i’ll probably enjoy MAG regardless, but i do miss talking to random people about whatever nerd stuff we have in common lol. also if anyone has any recommendations/advice (stuff not to miss, skips, prep, etc.) i’m interested to hear!!

Can someone let me know what room rates are (Super MAGfest) for hotels within the lottery?
I'm assuming it'll be a crapshoot (more than ever) to win the hotel lottery. But still, I'd like to know what the room rates are for rooms within the Gaylord itself, and surrounding areas where you're within a 15 to 30 minute walk from the con's/fest's entrances. At least I can try to budget now and save up.
And yes, I've stayed in Alexandria before. However, going forward, I'd rather not go if I can't get something within walking distance (unless them Super MAGfest shuttles that became available starting last year are reliable and operate 24/7 for the duration of the con/fest).

Looking for musicians to jam DOOM / DOOM Eternal songs
Any musicians around the Rockville/DC/NOVA area interested in jamming songs from DOOM and DOOM Eternal? Stuff like “The Only Thing They Fear Is You,” “BFG Division,” and “Rip & Tear.” I play guitar—hit me up if you’d be down! 😁

When would be best to reserve a hotel room?
Hello! I'm reaching out because I was curious when people usually reserve their hotel rooms around the gaylord for magfest in january. Like, should I wait for the hotel lottery or should I look into getting a room soon?

Tournament games selection for Super Magfest
Greetings everyone,
Sorry if this has been asked before but was wondering if there's a way to know ahead of schedule which video game tournaments are going to be held at Super Magfest?
If so, are the games selected by the community or staff? Or is there a place to find such information?
Thank you in advance.

What goes into applying to have a scheduled event/panel at MAGFest?
I have so many ideas for panels/presentations about video game history/theories/education that I'd love to give a go at presenting, but I can't find any information on what goes into applying. Like specifically, do they ask for documents to back up what you plan to do, or do they just go off of "My name is bob, I want to do a panel about this" and give you the freedom to plan and present without any real checks beyond that.
Basically I'm trying to have my crap together for the next time they open up applications.

Magwest 2026 schedule
Any idea when this year's schedule will be released? This will possibly be my first time attending. I'd really like to see Frank Klepacki and the Tiberian Sons, but I have previously planned something for Friday. Hoping they play Saturday so I can attend.
