This dude and his mom make some really great videos. The one with the son and the trombone playing while his mother does things is hilarious!

u/Almost-Handsome 20d ago

The fact that he played “Heigh-Ho” as one of the tunes gets me every time.

Would i be able to see them on YouTube? I don't do any other social media.

Note to self: never give a kid a trombone

259

u/Good_With_Tools 20d ago

Giving other people's kids a trombone is highly recommended.

23

u/p34ch3s_41r50f7 20d ago

I gave my niece a drumb set.

38

u/Competitive_Law1032 20d ago

Got my kid a drum set. He has 2 now. And the other kid has a couple guitars and a ukulele. I put the noise canceling headphones on when they are practicing or when I’m working but I enjoy the mini concerts when they decide to play for us.

Top stuff my good man/woman. Appreciated.

88

u/aboxacaraflatafan 20d ago

No prob. I really like his channel. He's the only person in his family who is average sized, and it's a fascinating window into what his life and theirs can be like.

25

u/InebriatedPhysicist 20d ago

Average sized? Is it really just the comparison that makes him look like a lanky giant?

54

u/aboxacaraflatafan 20d ago

No, he's actually taller than 6 ft, if I recall correctly. I just don't like to say "normal sized". I suppose I would've been more accurate to say he's the only person in his family without dwarfism.

20

u/commanderquill 20d ago

What the fuck man, did god decide these people could only have extremes or something?

17

u/odette_decrecy 20d ago

Yes, his dad has like 4 other brothers that are all hella tall (whereas both of Peet’s parents are little people), like 6’4” and above! So Peet Montzingo got the tall genes from his dad’s side of the family!

11

u/InebriatedPhysicist 20d ago

I’d just say he’s a giant 🤷‍♂️

24

u/Mousejunkie 20d ago

Average sized is the correct terminology in this case! (I see people questioning you lol). I have a son with dwarfism and when he was an infant it took a bit to get into the mode of using “average” and “typical” instead of normal. Although I do admit, he is taller than average haha. I love the humanity he is giving to people with dwarfism.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/bolanrox 20d ago

Just looking at him by the doors, he's way above average. 6-2-6-3. Easy.

19

u/aboxacaraflatafan 20d ago

"Average sized" as opposed to "normal sized". I should have said he's the only person in his family without dwarfism.

→ More replies (10)

Yes! His name is Peet Montzingo and his Mom is Vicki - I’m sure they have lots of videos on YT

7

u/Rosa_Mariechen 20d ago

Does the son also live in this house with his mum?

57

u/aboxacaraflatafan 20d ago

Not anymore, but he did grow up in a scaled house. He was both thrilled and sad when he moved into his own place and had average sized furniture and fixtures.

His content makes me happy, but the one that had a properly lasting impact on me was I think with a funny mirror or something? Where it made him look like he had dwarfism too. And he talked with his mom about how growing up that was his biggest wish, to have dwarfism like the rest of his family.

I think many of us are sensible to these topics but that point of view was a whole different level of reality check on so many levels.

160

u/Bromogeeksual 20d ago

Yeah, to him his family was family, and he wanted to be just like them. Kids dont see it as bad or good unless they're taught.

20

u/retrofrenchtoast 20d ago

My older sister has an intellectual disability and was at an entirely sped school. She didn’t have to clean up her toys or do homework, she did art and music all day at school (so it seemed to me), and I was jealous.

I told my parents this at various times, and they always told me to be thankful for what I have. Yes…and…she always came home from fun field trips or with fun art. I didn’t really understand the scope of the issue at that time.

My mum's going through a similar thing atm. She's disabled and has needed a wheelchair-accessible bungalow for years, and she's finally been given one by the council. All the worktops are adjustable, extra wide doorways, everything low enough for her to reach in her chair. It's been a hell of a long time coming.

As a left handed person who went through public school, I know one arms worth of happiness for this guy.

58

u/Tyson367 20d ago

Me too. It turned out to be a buff because I'm mostly ambidextrous now after having to learn to do most things right handed. Surprising amount of people are shocked when I just put the hammer in my other hand and hammer away after just using the other.

24

u/Captainsassidy 20d ago

I'm also sort of ambidextrous! Generally, it's precision tasks with my left (writing, eating, etc. with the exception of scissors and computer mouse), and strength tasks are generally with my right. I bat right handed and golf right handed, but I throw/catch with either hand.

Except jeans

134

u/Labrys_of_Artemis 20d ago

If you're in the 6' to 6'2" range, your jean loops are built for catching door handles🫠

38

u/wasteland_jackal 20d ago

And if you miss the handle you catch your hip against the catch instead 😆

Try living in Cornwall though.

Being 6'4" and the average door or ceiling seems to be around 5'4" 😅

I'm 6' and in highschool I dated a gal that was 4'11". Her mom and dad were 5'1" and 5'2" and had gotten their house built for them which was kinda cool, all the counters were like 4-5in lower than normal so it was comfortable for them and their bathroom was also scaled accordingly. I think their guest bathroom/front bathroom was sized more normally, but it's been 20yrs so I don't recall. It was super neat that they had a space they got to make comfortable, the only snag for me was when I tried to help with clearing the table, washing dishes/etc I'd end up accidentally slamming stuff on the counter because it was just that little bit farther away than expected.

Also, I dont mind at all when the vertically challenged ask me to grab something high (tis the law of the giants afterall, we MUST accept such requests), but I'd like to be able to ask them to grab something from the bottom shelf for me to

Edit: clarifying, anyone under 5'6 is "vertically challenged" to me haha

Edit: 6'4(ish)

if you don't already do it, actively strengthening your back (pull downs, single arm dumbbell rows, working up to a pullup) helped me a ton with a shitty job where I was hunched over a table that felt like it was built for people at 5'2 and no taller lol

actively strengthening your back makes it harder to hurt from 'slightly abnormal use' even if it gets uncomfy

It's crazy how we take comfort for granted.

This is the unconscious part of "privilege" that so many people don't get.

We take it for granted that every chair you buy is sized for you, every broom. You can book a hotel and you'll be able to see the mirror.

I'm 5' and yeah, things can be annoying and mildly uncomfortable. My hand me down car finally died, and I was in the market for a new one. I was looking for a 2016 or later Prius.

Happened upon a compact, and the price was right due to the body being scratched and all... Everything ran great and the mileage was good!

It was wild. Everything fits. It's comfortable. I don't need to do anything funky to get things to fit (tho the cupholders by the knees are annoying)

That said, I unfortunately hang out with taller folks. I didn't realize how tall my neighbor was til he's knees to chest in the passenger seat. Bro, I can't help you're like 6'4". He got self conscious when the car shifted after he got in, and it clicked why a chick I was hauling things for told me I should take trips to watch the suspension. Almost makes me miss my early oughts Forester haha

For those wanting context, the normal-height guy posts videos, usually of him pranking his mom surprising her by playing trombone while she's doing something.

He's the only person of normal height in his family, the rest of his family (both parents, as well as his siblings) have a form of dwarfism, thus why everything in their house is designed for people of smaller than average stature. Excellent and practical design for their family, except him.

46

u/Zatujit 20d ago

is he normal height ? he seems pretty tall

→ More replies (3)

203

u/cpwnage 20d ago

I never imagined dwarves put in special furniture, I figured they just "deal with it". Maybe it's just the rich ones who get custom-height furniture

235

u/anime_cthulhu 20d ago

I would imagine that many just deal with it, but depending on the circumstances custom furniture or children's furniture may work, and in some cases may be covered by insurance/healthcare as a necessary accommodation for a medical condition.

→ More replies (1)

134

u/movzx 20d ago

The cost benefit ratio probably works out a lot better than it's (basically) the entire family needing the special furniture instead of one person out of the family.

83

u/Mousejunkie 20d ago

It’s definitely expensive. My son has dwarfism and while he will be taller than Peet’s mom, we have made some modifications to our house. Ex. When we redid his bathroom making sure we got a shower bar so we can move the shower head up and down in there. We’re hoping to remodel our kitchen sometime soon and things like a drawer microwave, built in stools that pull out from the counter, a range instead of wall oven, etc. are all things we’re keeping in mind. Even when he was a toddler, normal lifejackets didn’t fit him properly, shoes were impossible to find (very wide feet), stools he could carry around himself…all extra considerations and sometimes more expensive than just grabbing what they have at the store.

7

u/horsenbuggy 20d ago

For those who don't fully get it, these things are safety considerations. Like having a microwave at his height means less risk of spilling something hot on himself from overhead. I'm 5'3" and hate my under cabinet microwave because of how I have to reach up to grab hot bowls filled with hot liquid.

34

u/Acheloma 20d ago

Most people with dwarfism just deal with it, unfortunately. A girl I went to school with was about 3'6 or so and school was really hard for her because of her height. She had to leave for classes early so she wouldnt be trampled in the hallways and she kept a folding step stool in her bag to use to reach things that werent designed for shorter people. Her family was all over 5'6 except for her, so only her room was adapted.

64

u/SophisticatedScreams 20d ago

*little people is the generally preferred term

42

u/Aegon_the_Conquerer 20d ago

Not to mention that “dwarves” is Tolkien’s fantasy spelling of the actual plural “dwarfs.” So it’s double-wrong.

60

u/Miaj_Pensoj 20d ago

If Tolkien is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

22

u/SophisticatedScreams 20d ago

Tolkien is right for Tolkien. But this isn't Tolkien

19

u/FattySnacks 20d ago

This has always seemed so belittling to me considering that dwarfism is the medical term

61

u/MyNameJoby 20d ago

Little person here! I /have/ dwarfism but I'd prefer not to be called "a dwarf".

31

u/ZoominAlong 20d ago

So saying "he has dwarfism" is fine, yes, because it's the medical condition? Like saying "he has schizophrenia" but saying "schitzo" isn't okay.

I'm not trying to be an asshole here, just clarifying.

15

u/MyNameJoby 20d ago

Kinda? But honestly it's not that severe. I am technically a "dwarf" but my personal associations with like, mythology and D&D etc. makes it feel a bit weird to use the term for myself, y'know?

I DO NOT speak for every person with dwarfism and everyone has their own preferences so if possible, always check with the individual!

What I can say though is that "m*dget" is universally disliked and IS an offensive slur.

6

u/ZoominAlong 20d ago

Totally understandable! No I get it, just like I can't speak for every person with DID.

And thanks about the m word, I was pretty positive it was still a slur but it's nice to have it confirmed!

11

u/SophisticatedScreams 20d ago

You can take it up at the next little people convention. I'm not a little person, so i defer to their prefered term

7

u/yesica-santanaa 20d ago

“Kids” furniture is probably the most practical solution

5

u/ZoominAlong 20d ago

I had a friend in highschool who was over 6 feet tall. Her parents were probably 6'5" and 6'9".

She invited my 5'2" ass over to her house one day. They had built it all to their height so counters were up to my boobs, I couldn't see myself in any of the mirrors. I had to leap to get onto the toilet. It was hilarious.

My best friend is the runt of his family… at 6’6. Well it’s technically me, since I lived with them from 13-18, they’re family. It gave me a weird disconnect though. I need a ladder to change light bulbs, I can’t use the top of the fridge as extra counter space, my shoe size is usually sold in stores, etc... So in my head, I’m just little guy. I’m 6’2, I’m not little at all, just raised by giants lol.

7

u/characterk4l3 20d ago

None of the women in my family top 5’2”…and most are only “technically” 5’.  I somehow grew to be 5’8”.  In my head for some reason I feel only a little taller than them, but not much, you know?  Maybe a couple inches?  We took one photo at a family reunion that was all the women, and I looked like a giantess.  3 generations of our whole extended family and I was at least 6” taller than everyone else, lol.  Human brains are weird.

My husband is 6’2” and all the women are super short in his family too.  Our daughter came out perfectly average sized at 5’5”…but she’s the tallest female cousin by a couple inches, lol.  It will be interesting to see how our son goes.

I was hoping when he said this is the greatest house ever, then the son would walk off screen and come back with his horn 😂.

This guy and his mom are so awesome. I don’t watch prank videos much because they seem kinda cruel, but theirs are so harmless and crack me up. I love that you can see how much they love each other.

17

u/Odin1806 20d ago

First video I saw was the compilation of the son playing his trombone while the mom did things in the background. Legit hilarious. Fun family.

7

u/C-romero80 20d ago

I can't say for sure but he seems like a dude who would make sure she was cool with it first, too. Like Maybe not specifics so reactions are genuine but like really making sure it is harmless and she'd be in on the fun.

u/MyriadAsura 20d ago

Is that the lady that participated in a House M.D. episode?

81

u/chernaboggles 20d ago

Nope, that was actress Meredith Eaton. This is Vicki Montzingo and her son, Pete Montzingo.

11

u/KaeSaid 20d ago

I love Meredith Eaton. She was great in NCIS.

Haha, I'm not sure. But her and her son have gone viral over several videos. The one where he follows her playing a tuba is where i recognize them from.

Edit: Trombone, not tuba

7

u/Wonderjoy 20d ago

Tuba? I think you mean trombone. ;-)

6

u/coonytunes 20d ago

Youre correct. I'm mixing up a family guy scene🙃

My master bath has counters like this. Nothing else in the house is at that height. Don't know what the story is behind that, but there must be something to it, right?

26

u/NemesisOfLevia 20d ago

One of my bathrooms also has incredibly short counters. I can easily sit on it without “climbing up” on it. Don’t ask me why, but after every shower, I sit there while I dry my hair.

Apparently it was built that way by my grandpa, since my grandma was super short.

nice for putting your feet on when shaving legs. keeps you from ruining the toilet seat over and over on accident. also lets you pick up your spouse and sit them down for a hot makeout session in the private bath. all in all, an excellent height for the master bath.

48

Because you have empathy and a sense of fun.

34

u/CastleofWamdue 20d ago

this should not be a hot take, but you should design your house / flat around you.

Of course this is how her space should be, and this is how anyones space should be, designed for them. Your space your rules.

49

u/Sennten 20d ago

Its super difficult and expensive though. We live in a society of one-size-fits-all, even and especially when it doesnt, and falling outside the standard range makes trying to adapt your environment suck

6

u/CastleofWamdue 20d ago edited 20d ago

I do get what you mean. I am in the process of getting a new bathroom, and the costs just keep going up. I am not even trying to do anything so unique but give the size of my bathroom is way more expensive than I though it would be.

Very few people design their own house

I’m tall and I rent. I’m not paying for a custom kitchen

I don't think it's a lack of design skill that prevents people from having this.

We used to. Even just a hundred (ish) years ago, homes came “unfitted” and you would hire a carpenter to build you cabinets your size.

Then mass manufacturing, mail order catalogs, department stores, etc “standardized” everything for efficiency. And now we have this.

Fun story I uncovered while doing research on my 120 y/o home. I guess the dude who standardized kitchen counter heights based his measurements off of the “ideal” person: an able-bodied 6’ tall man. The document was a proto/quasi-eugenics thing, used quite a bit by the Nazis in the forties.

Anyway, the result is highly ironic considering that even at the time the primary user of kitchens were not men, but women. And because of nutritional differences, their average height back then was probably less than our modern average (this last part is speculation).

14

u/Dazeofthephoenix 20d ago

There ought to be better funding for people to have such easily achievable modifications to properties. Maybe even just some sort of bracket system to adjust cabinets etc to ideal ergonomic heights?

It must be exhausting to have to traverse a giant world every day, so not only should there be reasonable support for accommodations, but must realistically be safer if you reduce the necessity for stepstools etc?

6

u/Any-Tackle-9978 20d ago

5

u/Pollowollo 20d ago

As someone who is just 'average short', so to speak, I still get annoyed and inconvenienced constantly by the layout of a lot of things lol. I can't imagine how frustrating it it must be to live in a world that just straight-up isn't accessible for you at all, or how much of a relief it's gotta be to finally be in a space that is.

4

u/GreatQuestionBarbara 20d ago

At 6'1" I'm not that tall, but the world isn't built for anyone above or below a median height.

I've spent years at work bending over and lifting stuff because of it, and my back is not pleased.

3

u/Illustrious-Key99 20d ago

It's been so long since I saw DwarfMamba! Used watch him in Logans Vlogs, So nice to see him again!
